shadow_rusty
It goes much better once the motor warms up (which takes about 3 mins... Stupid SCX motors), but it's far from great... boss302
Heat two of Historics has been run and won. Well done Shadow Rusty - just too good for the rest of the field. Peter - your car was very nice and Gas41T I really enjoyed your car. The top three are just perfect proxy cars. Overall results will follow shortly. boss302
And here are the overall placings. Poor little Escy languished at the back of the field - it's never going to be competitive. I'm testing next year's car now - I don't want to embarrass myself again! Photos to follow tomorrow.
Peter Gunn
Thanks for the running big boss man appreciate all the work the hosts put into this proxy, congrats to old Rusty there and to Phil on the podium and to all who take part . shadow_rusty
Thanks heaps gentlemen. Totally surprised with this car. It's one if the lower powered ones in the field, yet still surprises with its speed. Thanks heaps for the podium drives. Congrats to the runners up. boss302
RAID qualifying has concluded. Charles X Bowler was very nice and smooth to drive AMCC's Mitsubishi wasn't too far off and also a very well sorted car. Codes Pajero was very easy to drive for such a relatively short wheelbase car. Team Red's car was easy to drive possibly because the motor feels a little tired. Handled well despite being a bit short on grip. Curef could have been quicker except for a bit of rear shuddering - caused by the track being too grippy! Phil's Mitsi was just a little too hot to handle - I think it will be better in the heats with some more laps under my belt. Gas41's Beemer was quite nice - jus need some more laps. Well sorted and I think it will perform well in the heats. Nice and easy to drive. Miveson's Bowler is very lively - just a little too much so - could tone this down a bit with more weight I think, Dylan - hard to be confident with the Mini - or shoudl I say Maxi? Very long guide length and light weight made the car tricky to drive. RUsty Shadow - sorry but your car is borderline un-drivable. Main problem I think is the very long guide length which does not suit tight corners. Am going to try some different driving techniques to try and get some clear laps. I think if it was running on tracks with Scalex type radiuses it would be better. It just does not handle the tight turns on my track. Will do my best! boss302
Just finished Heat 1 for RAIDS. Not much separating the top 8 cars. Callan is going to run Heat
boss302
And here are the results for Heat 2. Callan drove this heat ("Boss302's Son" (on Auslot)) Sorry Shadow Rusty but he just couldn't cope with your car and made a tactical withdrawal. boss302
And now for the overall placings...... Doesn't get much closer! Congratulations AMCC who bowled over the rest of the competition. I'll get some pics up later....
shadow_rusty
No worries on the withdrawal. That's just weird though. Fairly sure all of my ozrally cars have had the same ninco pro guides. Don't worry, the acc won't be back next year. And lots more work will be done on the mini. Don't worry, the acc won't be back next year. And lots more work will be done on the mini. I think some more weight in the Mini would help quite a lot Michael - look forward to having another go next year. I am sorry about the withdrawal....... I'll give it a drive on my circuit to test my theory about constant radius corners - I think it will be fine on a conventional track. I've built 4 Classic class cars in the last few days - hopefully one of them will be an improvement on my Escort!
boss302
As I thought Michael your car is OK on a conventional track. Rolls pretty easily but no problems with corners. Bruce
boss_302's_son
Some feedback on the Raids; (I am unfamiliar with a few of the names so will refer to them by car. Hope this is ok) AMCC - Pretty good - but I found the guide 'stuck' through many areas of the track so it was hard to be smooth and consistent every lap Both Bowlers - I found both bowlers extremely powerful with not much slide or give in them - they were both fast but hard to be consistently fast. If you have seen the Gotham Hillclimb layout it is very narrow and tight with not much room to stretch the legs. I'd like to drive them on our and 3 and 4 lane tracks I reckon they would be dynamite. White Pajero - I found really good to drive being so small. I thought it was consistent and that it well suited Gotham - thinking I might have to get one to play with! VW Toureg - was easy to drive but lacked sooo much grip when I drove it. It spun the wheels everywhere which was frustrating as there was nothing different with the track for Round 2 Blue Schlesser - was easy to drive hard and much better than last time I drove it a year or so ago (if it is the same car?) Was very very noisy though so not sure if gear is on the way out Red Ninco Mitsi - very much the same as the white Pajero SCX VW - I could barely complete a clean lap - best I could do was an 18.1 with dad marshalling me over the bridge past the fat ladies. The 90 degree corners were too much for it and the guide essentially jammed in the track. Was interesting to drive otherwise though - I normally race nearly everything with the throttle response turned off and full brakes, with this I was the opposite with both and seemed to go quite well on the less tight stuff - probably because of the portal type axle set up BMW - Not sure if this car was entered last year or year before? But I very much liked it, it could be driven hard and was quite consistent Mini - Was a bit light making it too lively to give full throttle. I found I used half throttle where I could and and to take it easy in the corners as it tipped up on two wheels very easily - bit more weight would help! Overall I find the Raids very tricky to drive at Gotham. The track is very very undulating, narrow and tight - it doesn't suit them at all!!! kalbfellp
Thanks Bruce and Callan. The white Pajero came from " under the track" with out motor, Sure there is another in " that She'd " somewhere as Bruce was going to build it! The Schlesser is a new build, prize from last year. BMW is also a new build. Quote Phil https://www.hobartminiaturecarclub.com/ Email
boss_302's_son
There wasn't much between them all. They all found their speed a certain way, for the bowlers it was horsepower, for the other Nincos it was being more driveable. I'd be interested to see how they would all go on an open 3 or 4 lane track Impressed for first builds of the Schlesser and BMW
charlesx
BOSS302 and son. Thanks for the great event and the helpful comments. Was good to see my Bowler return to better form. kalbfellp
The problem with the SCX is not just the guide it is the combination of the long guide and the long guide lenght from rear axle. The Avant Lancer had the same problem when we first set it up, changing to a shorter guide fixed the problem. Thanks for getting Raids completed. If my calculations are correct: AMCC is on top of the Podium followed by Codes and Gas41T. kalbfellp
Ben M's car has been rerun (with front tyres) after the Raids were completed and the points will reflect the new time and finishing position. IMO this is better than just a points penalty that would not have sorted the rest of the entries in this round.
