Ozrally Proxy Round 10 Gotham Park

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Just getting things underway with round 8 at Gotham Park on the Bat Florio stage.

I'm starting with WRC cars first. Have done qualifying but not sure I would take too much notice of the times. The track is not properly "rubbered" and am getting used to the cars. Times and comments are below.

W21Team Red 13.28 Very smooth and an obviously well sorted car - very enjoyable to drive.

W12Peter Gunn 13.283 Again a smooth car. Surprised at how well it handled track undulations even though it is a low slung car. Nice to see something other than a Ninco!

W11KalbfellP 13.391 Once I am to grips with this car I think it is going to fly. A bit noisy but very fast

W16AMCC 13.23 Sounds like a Melboure rattler! But easy to do quick times.

W23Boss302 13.579 Don’t think qualifying is a good indicator. Feels like it is at the limit. Bounces a bit at the back

W22miveson 13.708 Again a bit of a rattler but quite easy doing consistent times.

W15CharlesX 13.499 Crown gear is stuffed but the car is still good. Will need a rebuild for next year

W19curef99 14.394 More a matter of getting used to the car - power comes on in a rush making it a bit challenging

W18Peter 2 Gunn 13.875 Only car I had to turn the controller down. Lots of body rock which is causing front tyre to bind a little - not much. Could be much faster

W20OTFS 13.709 Think this car will get a lot quicker. Not as much poke as some of the other Nincos but a nice handlling car.

W13Gas41T 14.069 I must have been having a snooze - this car is much better than the time suggests.

W17Alexis 14.607 No rear clearance!!! Had to bounce it off a wall to get an uphill section. I think this car could be right up there with another mm or two in rear tyre diameter

W14Ben M 19.234 Utterly hopeless! Frequent de-slots as a result of front tyres making too much contact on undulating sections. Have removed for the heats which has transformed it. Without tyres the overall diameter is about the same as the other similar Ninco cars with tyres. Recommend changing this for next year. HAs potential to be a winner

All good curef99...... more a matter of me dialling in to it. The track will be better for the heats which will help a lot. Yes - I use an adjustable controller...

OK - here are the round 1 results. As expected the track was nice and grippy - there wasn't really much separating the majority of the cars. Phil's Mitsubishi came out on top - it was a bit like trying to control a stick of dynamite! Ben_M's Citroen was the big improver after removing the front tyres - in this form the fronts were the same diameter as the other similar cars in the field - fix this for next year Ben! Most cars were very pleasant to drive - looking forward to heat 2.

Can you tell me what's up with my car there must be sand bags in it !!! Any feed back please

Hi Rossko

Your car is very good - as you can see form the times there is little to choose between them. Phil's car is just that little more lively than the others. All the Citroens are very similar - just depends on the run at the time. Hopefully I can get a better run in for you in Heat 2. Stand by - running that tomorrow.

Bruce's Hillclinb track is very tricky, any very slight problem or tuning with the car can make a big difference.

We ran two club heats on it a few weeks ago, first heat my car desloted 4 times, I very slightly altered the braids and second run was great with no deslots.Very fine line between a good performance and a great performance.

Heat 2 has been completed. No major dramas although I would say that some of the cars could be faster if they had more ground clearance - the Ninco Citroens and Alexis' Subaru need more ground clearance. All bottom out on the crest of a hill on my track requiring a fair bit of slowing down to avoid crashing into the valley below. Maybe run them on my track first next year before the tyres are worn down. All in all a very good group of cars which were enjoyable to drive. The overall results are very close - I'll post them in a minute.

Well that was close :o

Thanks Boss for running the round. Interesting issue with my car. Front and rears should be about the same because of the rules so it's a bit strange. Maybe I need to trim more off the rears, but the last time I did that it didn't go so well..........

Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING

Thanks Bruce for getting this Round of the WRC cars completed.,Thank you for getting such a good result with my car, good to see it still works on Bat Florio.

Good results for Ben after all the problems, I think the real problem was the guide sticking in the up position.

The kids will be pleased with the old rattler.

How come the track area looks light and bright? Using some big lights?

Congrats to the usual suspects on their podium places in WRC class, have tried to do something different from Ninco with the Avant and SCX cars but pretty useless so next year will be joining the Ninco brigade , in the can't beat them join them scenario, conrats to you Boss on a very good rally/ hill climb track, really does look good .

Thanks all for a great round and surprising results. My Subaru started its life in 2011/12 so amazed it is still progressing in a forward direction with all original equipment.

Congrats to the podiumites and well done to the organiser, drivers and helpers.

On to Historics. Track is nice and grippy following WRC cars. Here are the qualifying results - again just an indicator....

H25Rusty Shadow 12.617 Absolutely no vices. What a great car – right amount of everything!

H31AMCC 12.996 Very nice overall – especially good on faster sections. Getting a little too much grip resulting in some chattering but not enough to slow it down.

H26Peter Gunn 13.012 Typically smooth MSC performance. Could have been quicker except for having to back off over crest of hil on top of track – bottoming out a little.

H27Ben M 13.179 A very nice car to drive. Just a little loose but I found it one of the best to drive consistently.

H30Curef99 13.27 Good amount of power and reasonably good handling. I feel it would benefit from some more weight.

H32Gas41t 13.357 Haven’t found the limits of this car yet. So easy to drive. I think it will be near the top at the end of the day.

H35Alexis 13.453 Quite nice handling. Would be quicker if the power was more progressive.

H24KalbfellP 13.561 Similar to Alexis’ car but just a little easier to drive. Should get quicker.

H28Charlesx 13.589 Was simply terrible. One of my favourite cars last year and a shocker this year. Tyres were not glued to rims. Spoke to Phil and re-glued. In subsequent practise it is a little better but will need to be looked at post event.

H36Team Red 13.628 Another very easy car to drive. No doubting it the MSC cars are a very good package.

H34OTFS 13.807 No real vices just doesn’t have the engineering quality of say an MSC car.

H33Miveson 14.097 Gear mesh has nearly had it. Found the motor had dislodged and have re-glued. Is better in follow up practise.

H29Boss302 14.113 Hopefully MSC or Ninco will produce an appropriately sized version to make the Escort a going concern. I’ll move on to something bigger next year!

Hi Boss302.

Thanks for comments on my Ford RS200. It has clearly gone to pack after such a good start. Was 1st after about 3 rounds. Tyres were certainly glued at start.

Look forward to getting back after end of proxy. At very least appears I need to use some more effective glue. I remember when I got it back last time - it would hardly run. With new tyres and truing it appeared back to its best but no more.

Pretty sad Charles but I'm sure you will have it back to top form next year. Almost looks like the LH rear tyre is our of round - or a bent axle (if that's possible) Can still do pretty good times but could be so much faster......

Historics heat 1 has concluded and no surprises about the winner. Not much separating the cars after second place.

Thanks Boss302 for your kind thoughts. Cars have to last the distance so no excuses. Sounds similar to what happened last year. Thought axle was bent then but not the case. More like tyre has turned on the rim but surprised that would make so much difference. Congrats on great start to this round SR and also the other podiumites.
