Round 2 - Wrp 2017 - Scotland

Recommended Posts

The Scottish preliminaries have taken place with check-in, service, performance trials and shakedown completed. The first stage will run in the next few days.

First the bad news - unfortunately Dave has had to withdraw the two cars from the Isle of Man. Good news is that he is still up for hosting the event.

Performance trials were done using a Tamiya Speed Checker like Gazza used. Have not had time to compare this against Gazza's results but here they are. Gazza did a Speed Check, getting the actual maximum speed achieved by each car. On my test this is the "Kmh" column. I also did a time check (elapsed time for a fixed distance (on the rollers) and I measured the current draw of the motor whilst running. Although I tried to treat each test in the same manner, please take these figures as "of interest" rather than a scientific assessment !! Perhaps next year we could do something more clinical...

Next up were the Shakedown runs. This is where the host gets to play with the cars :-)

A check of the braids and guide and that the tyres were all seated properly preceded a 5 lap run (with a brief 1 lap warm-up), to get a fastest lap for each car. I have added a comment against each, but again have to say that its simply an expression of the individual experience rather than a comparison between cars.

On the shallow cosmetic front I really liked #88 Red RS200 and #74 BP RS200. The RS200 was always the "beaut" of the Group B rally cars.

The shakedown took place on Ninco track - this always puts an interesting focus on the performance.

I had intended to weigh the cars but forgot, will do it soon though.

Onya Leo, good info and pics.

I was talking to Gaz the other night about how we will find out how all the cars will perform on a relatively flatter type tracks that differ from Gary's .

I found the harder I pushed mine , it did become tippy so had to just eaze off a little in some areas of my track. Also I think it may be the navvy leaning across to the driver showing him the different centrefolds ;):D . Have fun mate .

Cheers Craig

Apologies for the couple of blurry images... Thank you for the secret message inside one of the cars which just happened to be the one that needed to be opened as a piece of strengthening plastic slipped out (before the run).

Hello P-G, Afterwards, it occurred to me that we should have done a "stage-end interview" after each car. I do remember Crawford saying "no offs yet, they'll think I wasn't trying" - no prize for guessing what happened next. I also remember him commenting about the braking effect but cannot recall which car that was. I have just remembered a comment about the difference between an off-the-shelf Delta that he used for warming up and the first entry Delta - that was #98 of Slo1quick.

I'll try to do interviews on the next stage.

Looks like Iam better setting up Scalex than SCX cars, but a big gap between Slo and the rest of the podium!

Look forward to the next stage.

Phil, think you mean Gas....

Gas is on the money, pretty close otherwise.

Top job Leo, thanks.
