1940 Ford Convertible

Recommended Posts

I had a PYRO 1940 convertible kit on the to do list. Assembled it (not especially well when I compared to the one Crocket showed me he had done) and covered my tracks with some Tamiya putty.

This kitset was built around a full plastic chassis that had to be removed so I strengthened the inside glue lines on the body with JB Weld - not too pretty but this will be sanded and painted later.

And after some sanding and tidying up I ended up here. The body is sitting on an inline Slot Classic chassis. I cut the rear seats out to accommodate a Pioneer 18k short can and it looks like everything, including the full front seats and floor pan is going to fit.

Happy so far.

I like the look of that. How are you going to strengthen the window frame so it doesn't break first time it rolls over?

May the downforce be with you.

Not sure - might use some sewing pins. Probably won't use anything. I doubt this will be raced hard.

So far so good. How do these Pyro kits go for size They're a bit down on 1/32 aren't they?

they are more like 1/35 scale so a little on the small side but look cool anyway

After a few hours in the slotcave the old Ford ended up here:

I like the upholstery pin mooneye hubs. So simple. I'll definitely be using them again. These ones are sitting on some old Scaley NASCAR rims.

I don't have any helmet-less drivers so a trip to MunterWorks is on the cards.

On the track the car lapped well - smooth and predictable. I did about 30 medium pace laps without deslotting. You have to be happy with that.
