ZeGas
To try and keep Alexis threads clean I thought it might be a good idea to set up a general chit chat and build thread. Please feel free to post whatever you feel like here so long as it is, in some way, related to the IPS 2017 series. Edited November 14, 2016 by ZeGas Quote Cheers Grant . Peter Gunn
Hi lads the one concern i,m facing and i expect some of you are is the lack of any answers about getting BWA motors have tried several times since the summer to get some new ones but can't get a answer to my e mails or orders , noticed a couple in the series are getting tired , at the moment waiting to see when current car comes back if the motors any good to use again , on the tyre front has anyone any idea if running rubber and urethane tyres together on tracks wood or plastic will make any difference to the handling of cars as i have noticed here running PG or MJK is fine as they work well until i use a set of PCS 7mm rubber these seem to clean the track up as they run and when i go to use the cars P/G MJK shod they are more slidey until the urethane gets back on the line , so was wondering the disadvantage the cars that will have following on next from a rubber shod one. GAS41T
S%#<>~}}tttt Peter, I have 3 motors for you sitting on my bench, I will send you this week... I'll Pm You when I send them 😅 Rossko
curef99
so, i am making progress on the car... got an FF motor and will have a 10 24 or 10 25 mounted this week end. I took some measurements and the rear wheels are gone ... they were 7.5mm wide for rally car, so, no way to pass the rule. I can use the peugeot 205 plastic rim or a set of narrow 4.5mm rim equivalent to the one i have in front. These tire size rules are a nightmare for a new comer!!! 8mm in the rear is so common today ! but this is a side comment. Any way, due to the size of the alpine, i will need to trim the tires by at least 1mm of radius... some more fun to come. Lucky that we have up to March, it will take that long to get it all right . ZeGas
Good on you Curef99 Yes this year the tyres are up in the air a bit. I have glued various courses of sand paper to tongue depressors to trim the sides of the tyres while on the truer, it works quite well. Quote Cheers Grant . Peter Gunn
If you use MJK 4214's they are 7mm wide have been running them on my test Ferrari 250 GTO and so far not had a problem with them as regards performance on wood and plastic track , if you need slightly smaller!! same tyre trued down to size , remember your using a low powered motor the BWA S can is not to bad in a lighter car i have found the weight is most important with these motors, also the Scan has better brakes than the FF so weight would be more critical , make sure you check the rules as you go along
curef99
i have a A110 team slot mounted with an FF and the car is a dream to drive in its category... due to the resign body i did not have to add any weight. On the SCX, the car will indeed require weight as it is a very small one. For the time beeing, i am struggling to find the right tires/wheels, but it will come. curef99
I had the alpine fully build and running on track. Running into trouble on tight right but running in any other place. Gear and tire all good. So proud of my little alpine.

Peter Gunn
Ready to roll all tyre testing done on my spare Pink kar Ferrari 250 GTO and thought i would share my thoughts , running was done on Carrera track, approx 48 feet a lap car did 100 laps on each of the following tyres and for checking took readings for each tyre at 20 laps . First up was a new set of Ninco 7mm tyres which was the current tyre just scrubbed them slightly before running , not that good until they were over 60 laps and rubbered in then not to bad , next up were the used Ninco of my 3rd place GTO this year and straight away you noticed the differance i did clean them with soapy water sailed past the 20 laps 2.3 seconds quicker than the newer ones , then the PCS and straight from the start i noticed A extra turn of speed coming out of the corners especially , these rubber tyres are really good but were only up on the used Nincos by just on 1 second which suprised me, MJK's came next and i know this tyre very well used it a lot on classics and have it well sorted but for this test used a scrubbed new set and at the 20 lap mark was 1.6 seconds faster than the PCS, then the P/G,s after a lot of work making these tyres narrower as they are actually 8.5 calibrated which means i had to grind 1.5 mm of the sides also they are the biggest of the bunch dia wise which meant about a mm of that i got them on the track and after 20 laps were 0.2 seconds down on the MJK's which was round about where i thought they were when driving the car both the MJK's and P/G's seem very similar in performance. Lastly came yellow dogs had to get these from Electric dreams as our competitors in the states rave about them so i ordered 1204RY the Ninco classic urethane replacement and first thing you notice is they are shaped on the outside but not the inside which is handy as i had to take a bit of to get to that magic 7mm and also a half mm of the dia, after scrubbing in for a few laps to get used to them set of on the 100 laps passing 20 laps a whole second up on the MJK's and going better towards the 100 lap mark, now how do all these tyres go on wood is the next question, any one got any answeres, conclusion well as it,s not always about speed more about handling and smoothness have fitted my Ferrari 250 GTO for the 2017 campaign with will let Alexis tell you.chuckle. difinity
Peter, Not in the 7mm size, but my experience on my wood track (semi gloss, roller painted and sanded, copper tape - 13m long and technical) is as: Mostly 8mm on modern and NASCAR: We run urethanes mostly, MJK and Paul Gage. These are about half to 1 second per lap faster than Slot.it and NSR rubber. I find the PG XPG offer the most grip and with a higher profile more control then the MJK. MJK's tend to slide a little more, and I tend to use them more in the hotter weather. Yellow Dog urethanes sit between these two. Grip level after the track is 'rubbered in' is very good and controllable too. The Ninco rubber slide all over the place and wheelspin down the straights, but should be much better on coarse plastic better... Good luck with your proxy. curef99
tested the car... nice speed and stability. High speed right corner is still a problem... i go 2 wheels! and the car is still way to high on its wheels.
Peter Gunn
Furthur to tyre testing have now got some 7x20 mm Ortman tyres number 49c from RS racing and they look very similar to the Ninco tyres with a tread as well, fit PCS perfectly also BWA and MRRC thats all i have here at the moment, initial quick run is very good obviously need some running in but straight out of the packet on a set of PCS wire wheels on the back of one on my GTO,s quite impressive , think this could be one of the series tyre to be looked at in future Alexis, cost me £21-50 for 3 sets with postage. charlesx
Hi Alexis, My green Ferrari 250 GTO No.72 is ready to go. Sebring chassis has been trimmed down so it has lost about 3-4 grams of weight. Still seems to perform OK on local wood track. I have opted to stay with Ninco tyres so I may regret this later. alexis in greece
Unusual very low temperatures and snow(shed inaccessible)+a couple of shows(i'm a member of a rock band)+work prevented me from doing any work of my cars, but i have prepared 5 sets of tires for testing on wood hopefully this week -PCS -Ninco -Bosa -Ortmann -NSR i'll post results when done

ZeGas
Thought I'd have a go at designing my own chassis. (3D Printed) It is about 0.3 sec a lap faster than the supplied one, still testing. Bare weight is about 2g heavier than supplied chassis and pod but is stiffer. Also body is now painted and decalled, only clear coat to go after I paint the interior of the roof and pillars. Body is Rust-oleum Lagoon. Trim is Rust-oleum Heirloom White. Quote Cheers Grant .
