SlotsNZ
Having relocated to Spain recently, we moved into our townhouse Wednesday; on Friday I carelessly abandoned my wife and flew up to Barcelona, then traveled inland to Igualada to attend the XXI Campeonato de España 2016. I wasn't racing, just observing, and catching up with some folk, and enjoying being at a large scale event in one of the "ground zero" countries of slot racing. The event is run by the Associació Catalana Slot. (The Slot association of Catalonia - the province of which Barcelona city is a part.) Igualada is a small town about 30,000 plus a couple of satellites bringing the total to 50k. It happens to be the home of IBB Auto Racing - whose retail outlet CricCrac may be known to some, IBB Brands are Scaleauto (including MSC which is now marketed simply under the Scaleauto banner); and DS Systems - race control and controllers. IBB host the event at their facility across the road from CricCrac and the IBB warehouse. It is a disused disco and club built in the 1970s, and is flaming huge to say the least. So in some of the various rooms there are bars, old padded seating booths and the like. The bar and upstairs seating area where the rally slot tracks are located, is fully functional, so you can get a coffee, a soft drink, a beer, plates of food etc Some stats on the racing 4 x 8 lane Ninco tracks with a running length of somewhere around 50 - 55 metres, Lap times 12 - 13 seconds depending upon class. 10 x Ninco Rally tracks. Drivers compete sequentially on each track with times being accumulated. (Gazza turns lime green) 4 x Ninco (and some SCX track from memory) RAID tracks 1 x 8 lane 1/24th wood track for the Scaleauto and BRM racing. Running length "something more than 70 metres" Again, lap times around 12 - 13 seconds. The largest room seems more like a warehouse, and holds the 4 mirror imaged 8 lane Ninco tracks providing 32 lanes of racing. I took a snot load of pictures and video, here's a sample. I am showing two tracks, and the other 16 drivers are facing the other way at left of shot, driving on the other two tracks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-CnD0nzmEQ During today and tomorrow as I have time, I'll get more pictures and video up, and once that's done; try and summarise some new product information and write up some people profiles for general interest. Wobble
8 lanes, ... I get distracted by other cars on a 3 lane track and I'm close enough to see what's happening. Looks like you're enjoying yourself though
gazza
10 x Ninco Rally tracks. Drivers compete sequentially on each track with times being accumulated. (Gazza turns lime green) Need photos, need photos :D ....... The Spanish, and just about all of Europe, is mad on rallies, purpose built tracks and layouts are everywhere Great to have someone on the ground to give us some up to date information from time to time. SlotsNZ
Si senor Gary - "as you wish" [apologies to Westley] A sampling from Rally, and one video from the 1/24th rally cars - steel chassis, and snot fast around the course. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADwoQu_I2VI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu9CnoHCRzg&feature=youtu.be The guys moving around the track to "marshal" are called 'helpers', as a translation, and are his picked guys, usually from the same team. Some of the serious teams all had matching sweatshirts/hoodies. And, yes, this girl was pretty quick. I'd say in the top 10% and one pano shot of the main 1/32nd road course Over the course of the weekend there were more than 600 entries involved. I'd see people leaving with cases, and others arriving with cases all day, for different classes of event Quote Recovering Lapsed Slot Addict * Custodian of many used screws (mostly loose ) * Total kidder * Companion of other delusional slot addicts

dangermouse
That rally racing wouldn't work here - we can barely get the marshals to stay awake let alone moving back and forth great videos - who makes the 1/24 rally cars? SlotsNZ
They're Scaleauto. You can buy bodies, - and chassis http://www.scaleauto...a-de-93-a-111mm You could get your usual "pusher" to talk to the Scaleauto distributor therein Oz if you wanted some. They do rather "fill" a Ninco 90mm lane spacing with car.... I couldn't get over how much faster they were than the 1/32nd versions. I guess part of that is down to being a really low centre of gravity from the steel chassis, and I THINK very light resin bodies. SlotsNZ
Thanks Geoff, it isn't permanent, just for a year or two, to give us easy access for loitering around various parts of Europe. SlotsNZ
Some shots from CricCrac. The shop isn't physically very big. Probably similar size to the previous Armchair racer shop of 10 ? years back, GED's in Melbourne or Slotshop in South Sydney.. Certainly smaller than Mobile Raceways in Melbourne. but it was stuffed with stock, and all the vertical racks of parts, decals etc, are rolling on tracks, 3 deep, so you just slide some along to reveal other layers. Certainly a lot more actual range than they have on their website. Somehow missed taking pics of the 6 laner 1/24th track and the test track downstairs with the retail. The shots following are the upstairs tracks, Rally, RAID and two pretty big Carrera tracks, one 4 lane, one 6 lanes; which I presume are mainly for 1/32nd as they have the big woodie below them. Enjoy - can never have too many pics of tracks.
