slotmadmac
A few years back I posted a thread about reworking old Scalextric open wheelers - details here . I have been tinkering away with these cars for a while now... The Brabhams and the Renaults seem to be the fastest but all are capable of being set up to go well. My tuning skills have improved in the 5 years since I started working on these cars and these days I am taking my time and putting more effort into the tuning. This one is the latest off the production line. It's a March six wheeler body and chassis with a wing from a Tyrrell ELF. Perhaps these cars are suited to the gloss tracks we run in our club roster, but with a little effort you end up with a silky smooth, fast, totally predictable runner. I still find it hard to believe that these cars can be made to go so good with all stock parts (apart from the tyres). On my track they are just off the pace of a well tuned stock Slot It but have better cornering speed. They are hands down the easiest cars to consistently drive on the edge in my collection. Wobble
Nice. My Renault is a lot of fun and I'm still getting a kick out of the Polistil P34 too, although it does need a bit of work as it's scraping its belly on the track in places. branco
To stop belly from scraping on track, just stand back a bit, works for me. 2 Quote 2019 NZ RTR Nationals Gt 3rd 2017 NZ RTR Nationals NSR Classic 2nd 2017 NZ RTR Nationals Group C 3rd 2017 NSR Classic Challenge 3rd 2015 NSR Classic Challenge 2nd 2014 NSR Classic Challenge 3rd 2015 Garden City Invitation Overall Champion
Terry
Our little group has this class from the start of this year and we are seeing lots of old scaley cars hitting the track, the Renaults are good but we have good fast cars with the Benetton, Camel Lotus and the JPS Lotus, I will get some more pics tonight and post later Edited August 6, 2016 by terry
slotmadmac
Are you running the lowered stock set up? How do they go? Quote Podiums are for short people.
Terry
We made the decision to do a bit of modifying.... Motor can be changed to the BWA NC1 motor, gearing can be changed to a 9:26 ratio, guide can be changed. My car is shod with pauls urethane F1 rears. Although I did not intentionally lower my car, we do allow the removal of the plastic around the guide area under the chassis, this allows the guide to sit much closer to the chassis and gives the car a much better stance They go great, quite quick, and great fun to drive Edited August 6, 2016 by terry
Terry
This is another of our club cars, Oldslots Lotus, he didn't do a radical refurb, but the car is very quick, just showing us that you don't need to do a major rebuild to get good speed from these cars
munter
Terry, that looks like a slightly newer generation than what we run (HBMRC) Here is my car for the class. I have just given it a birthday after some goat caused it to catapault off the track and land heavily on the concrete floor. It is back better than ever. Terry
Hi John, What specs do you run in this class? Some of us want to maintain the original everything but others(me) like to play around with the cars and get them just a bit better, do you run the original motors? munter
We change the motor to the current scaley 18,000rpm item, tube and glue front axle, guide choice open, NSR Ultra grip F1 rear tires. That is about it, everything else is glue and true what is there. Quote John Warren Slotcars are my preferred reality
slotmadmac
With the flexible chassis I find that bracing the motor to the rear bushes makes a real difference. It eliminates shudder under braking and gives instant improvement. Quote Podiums are for short people.
Terry
John , you gotta get rid of that horrible driver! Transforms the cars looks and only costs a few dollars
munter
Look again at the head, Terry....it is a resin I swapped in for looks only. The original driver can stay. I could hack him out and add something better but this class is about simple fun and less about looks.
