Oz Rally Round 9 - Bat Florio

Excitement, excitement and more excitement... still OTFS is probably asleep so has missed it all and the grandkids have probably just broken up from school and have not check social media for results.

Another cracking win from Phil in both the final round and the series. A four second gap between Phil and the closest competitor. Local knowledge appears to play a big part as all 3 wins over the series came from within Tasmania. Don't misinterpret the Pug has been great all series racking up excellent results around the country.

Hats off to Ben who finished very strongly on the final stage and was unlucky not to have finished higher the ladder after the dead set shocker in Round 8. A top 3 finish should have placed him close or even on the podium however it just wasn't mean to be.

A lovely 3rd place for miveson and the Ninco Focus which traditionally dislikes Tasmanian tracks. The voodoo is finally over with a 3rd place in both the final race and the series. A nod of condolence has to go to OTFS who finished on exactly the same points as yours truly but the better finishing position in Round 9 placed him 4th and ohhhhh so close.

Thank you to all the competitors for an exciting WRC OzRally proxy this time round. Finger biting stuff and it's great to still see some of the final positions decided on the final round.

And so we move to the final class for the series with a shocking twist and a story that will surely feature on Slot Car Today.

Firstly a fantastic effort by Peter to take out the Round 9 top step and OTFS for his 3rd place finish (see it's not all doom and gloom Mel).

As ever the slo1quick Alpine finished 2nd at this final round, it didn't detract from the awesome Alpine which has swept aside the competition and won more rounds than anyone else, has more 2nd places than anyone else and has by far been the most consistent performer. The car simply isn't content with 3rd place. The car could probably have missed a round and would still have been on top. A fantastic effort and a well deserving series winner based on results.

The big talking point for the series is the loss of 2nd place by Gas41t who had a Sharon shocker at Bat Florio to record the worst round result for the RS200 of the series and slid from 2nd down to 4th (shock horror!!!!!). Some say that the man behind the name could in fact be Greg Norman however this has been discounted with Gas taking out a series podium in the Raid class. As I sit here with my cucumber sandwich and cup of early grey tea I say "jolly bad luck and commiserations".

Flipper (Mel's alternate name - apparently a tough life as a dolphin trainer) managed to sneak in to 3rd place with a podium finish in both round and series at the expense of Gas. Congratulations and a minor consolidation compared to the pain and suffering of the Raid scoring system that rightly robbed you of 3rd place).

What a great series it has been and car setup counts for everything, just look at the difference between the two SCX Porsche 959's from Gazza and Craig, a mile apart in competitiveness.

Historic results are below....

Wow, really happy with my equal 5th place overall...

And by far the best finish for a non podiumite...

PS. Congrats to the top guys, your cars are a tribute to your tuning skills...

Thanks Big Boss man for all the hard work you put in for us all, been a great series once again and congrats to all the entrants and a big one to the Scaley RS200 entrants your cars in my opinion are the most improved congrats to both of you, what can i say about Slow well his car's aren't and this year the Alpine was the class of the field to consistent chuckle, seems the 2 visits to Shelmore park killed my challenge 10th place and 9th place my worst results in Historics but pleased to have scraped home in second place overall .

In the WRC the Avant Scoobie was hopeless was going to withdraw the car after a couple of races but decided to let it have a ride with the other cars hoping it might have gone of a cliff somewhere.

Thanks to all the organisers, track owners and all who make this the premier rally proxy, hoping to be back again for the next one . :)

Thanks Bruce! Great effort to get this one done and dusted. Really appreciate the feedback. It takes a lot of effort and time to evaluate each individual runner, well done.

Well done Keith (Pete) certainly a standout in this round!! Congrats on a strong podium finish. Its good to finish well in Tassie eh!?

Congrats to Mel too, sneaking onto the podium.

Well done too Gas, to be honest I didnt think your tyres were gonna last after seeing them at Stubbos'.

Good to see so many others do well in this class, top ten had a podium at some stage or other, really helps keep the interest going and when there are so many good cars coupled with all the different varying tracks, the depth of potential winners is a good thing.

Really chuffed to get away with the honors in historics. Really means something to me. Its a privilege to be able to battle it out with yas'. Cheers and thanks to evrione involved!

Thanks Phil for all the effort getting another year organized and run so well, and congrats on the overall win for the "modern cars", cheers!

Thanks for keeping score Mark! loved the commentary along the way! Well done on the podium in the WRC and the strong show in the raids. Well done!

So too, Charles on your top spot in the Raid class and all the others who had a strong showing throughout the classes.

Cheers to evreyone who played, hosted and helped!!

Thank you for like the effort Bruce, I know this years Round has been a bit difficult for you.

Congratulation to: Stu, Keith and Mel in the Historics. Good to see Rusty and my Porsche have a good race and finish on the same points.

In the WRC class apart from my Pug the next 3 cars are very close. Good to Mark and Mel fighting it out for the last spot on the podium, and I finally managed to get some revenge on the kids.

Keith's Avant Subaru has provided some entertainment for hosts, as has Bruce's Escort.

I think some of the WRC cars just need a rebuild and they will be back up the leaderboard. The Ninco have been the class of field this year but last year it was Stu's Avant.

Lucky he changed class this year! Will he return with a Raid next year and win that class?

I am dissapointed that there will be no video of That Escort roaring around the Bat Florio, I was looking forward to it.

But I don't think you should venture up a ladder Bruce, or you may just do in the other foot!

Thank you.

Thanks to Bruce for hosting and running the final round.

Well done to all the class winners for both the round and the series.

There was a lot of close competition this year which is a good thing going forward.

And thanks to Phil for the organization and running of the whole show. Top job again.

Thanks Phil, Miveson, all the round organisers, drivers, marshals and any other helpers.

What a great event. Good to see the honours shared around. Pity the entries were down a bit except for RAID. This seems to be a farily common trend at present so perhaps it is a global problem because of economic situation.

Personally I finally won an event but after 2 3rds WRC was my guess. I could have not been more wrong. Thought I had the Subaru fairly bullet proof, not. Dispite final 2 rounds however I was extremely happy with the perfomrance of my Scaly RS200. If only I could find the secret to those Tassie tracks.

All the best to all. Hope to see you all next year plus a few new faces.

Charles agree about entries and you are right about global problems with costs and things it's happening over here with attendancies at some clubs and differant meetings , on the OZ front i think you will see more entrants especially with the WRP on a sabatical, and once again your and SR's Scaley RS200's i thought showed what can be done and Pendals have a couple on offers so i wll get one to breath on, all except Slow had bogie tracks, this year and last year mine was Shelmore both times and no idea yet how to get over that.

Keith's Avant Subaru has provided some entertainment for hosts, as has Bruce's Escort.

You Tasweigans have some weird ideas on what 'entertainment' is.......

Thanks Bruce for running the final round. A huge effort to get the lot done so quick (not even I got it done that quick).

Also thanks to Phil and all of the other hosts, marshals, driver feeders, scorers and entrants for making it a great series. I haven't squeezed a trigger since the cars left my place late last year but im sure ill be back into it again soon. Happy with the WRC's result with minimal tuning. Was a bit surprised where my Raid finished up, thought it would have been lower. The historic beast gave some enjoyment to drivers but no love to the scoreboard. Was worth a try, think I need smoother power and more grip.

Best I can claim is my pinion and spur took out the Historics :)

Till next time, peace!

Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING

Come on now Stubbo you know us Kiwis may bleat a bit but never crowe unless of course you are talking about Russell..

We normally go ki-wi, ki-wi.

Mind you I did notice I achieved 13 podiums over 3 classes. Could not have asked for much better.
