ZeGas 73 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) With the announcement of the 2016 IPC back in October and following the 2015 series throughout the year, I thought it time to take a leap. So with that, my name was on the list, all to do was to pick a car, the hardest thing to do as I love this era. Finally settled on a Maserati. I was wanting an A6 GCS but couldn't find a resin kit. Also looked at the Tipo birdcage (way to expensive from what I could find). So settled on the 300s. I shouldn't really say settled they are/were a lovely car. So "Hello George ... please send ... and chuck in a McLaren M1a too please." It's my first kit build, It's taken three months to build and I doubt it will win concourse nor come up there at all, I painted it International (as in the tractor) Red so will probably run like a tractor. The last time I built a model I would have been about 15 I think, so was really worried about it all, decals mostly as I didn't have backups. I stuffed them up a couple of times, so annoyed Alexis with changing my number a few times, finally got it right so 68 it is. Stuffed the painting up as well, got the red paint and decals right and thought OK lets put on the clear, the red was as smooth as, very glossy, and dear I say it professional looking. Then came the clear coat, the decals are fine ... whew ... but it went all pitted as you can see in the photos, I think my mistake was not to clean off the drift (for want of a better word) between coats. The guide was another problem, as the front wheels sit back a bit from the nose, I wanted the guide to be a bit more forward of the axle. Tried a slot.it LMP guide turned around backwards so I had more lead on the guide out front, worked really well but had to solder the wires to it, so gave that away as it probably wouldn't last the series without needing repair. After trying a few other guides I settled on the Black Arrow guide, they were kind enough to send me a few extras cause I was such a good DBR9 customer a few years back. It isn't too bad so sticking with that. Slot.it gears, BWA motor & PCS wheels. All is according to rules (I hope). Got the M1a lined up next. Look forward to checking out the tail lights of the competition, feel free to give us a preview, tail lights only mind don't want to spoil the surprise. munter 165 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 For some reason I cannot see the pictures...just a grey circle with a minus sign in it. I was wanting an A6 GCS but couldn't find a resin kit. You should have asked me. I could have provided one. Quote John Warren Slotcars are my preferred reality

ZeGas 73 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) Weird, I can see them fine. They did come straight of a web page so I have now added them to my own location, hopefully see them now. Thanks for the offer of the bodies, I did think of the two of you but I don't think my talents are that great yet to manipulate a body to a chassis and find the photo etch parts especially the A6 grill. Having said that, I am up for a challenge and I am keen though to build either or both. Can you PM me details, might just have an arm twisting comp on but will need heaps of help and advice.. Garry J 24 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) Very nice ZeGas. Have you ever tried warming your spray cans in hot water before spraying. Gives a much better finish. dangermouse 112 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 Nice work Which clear did you use? - another coat may fix it
ZeGas 73 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 Thanks for the tip Garry, I didn't warm it up. Will try that next time. Hey DM, I used a dulux clear and it came out bonza on a test piece, it has had about 10 coats on the body already, well maybe not that many but a lot. I thought the same "one more I'll fix it up", I'm sure it was the residue that stuffed it Should have given it a wash between coats. The enamel (red) was Rust-o-lean and was easy to use with 5 coats within an hour then leave it for a week, came out lovely. The clear was acrylic, so that was 1 coat every 90 mins or so. Jimmyslots, No luck needed from me, post it half way round the world and hope for the best from the drivers over there, good news really as I am a pretty crap driver myself. Anyway all packed up ready to go now so too late for changes. Quote Cheers Grant ....................................................... Ember 71 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 George's kits are probably the very best way to start. They're class all the way. You've done well on your first kit build. And the good thing is each subsequent one will be better. Now get shopping. Quote Computers. They'll never catch on. shadow_rusty 42 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) Very nicely done there sir... I had an old tin of Dulux clear here, and whilst it went on well enough, it also has severe 'orange peeling'. Lucky for me, I actually like that look... mattcrackers 103 Report post Posted February 3, 2016 Lovely looking car, it always pees me off when you have a stunning looking paint job only for the clear coat to stuff it up. Done it too many times myself, usually just sand it back a little and apply another coat, usually seems to work. I put my spray cans in the sun for a while to warm them like others have said earlier. Best time for painting cars here in WA with the warm weather.
ZeGas 73 Report post Posted February 9, 2016 oh oh oh oh my god. George Turner has just released a new Maserati 300s. Pity the grill isn't quite right, i'll have to figure out a way to modify. Also mirror doesn't look quite right and how did that fuel inlet get there. Symantics, don't you love it. Going to have to get this one soon me thinks to make up for my recent loss.
