charlesx
Hi Ben_M. Hop may still be there but I tried hard to eliminate. Notice best lap time considerably faster than last year so I must have got something right. At home on my small Scaly track it appeared unchanged so who knows. kalbfellp
I think Bens track has more grip than any of the other tracks in this event. Quote Phil https://www.hobartminiaturecarclub.com/ Email
Ben_M
The white track yes, but the black track, no. Your car holds its speed much better than the others which may have something to do with it??? Quote Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING
Ben_M
Hot off the press, Stage 1 of Historics took place tonight. Really great bunch of cars and so much fun on this track. Very few had any issues on any spot on the track so it was down to pure speed and mechanical grip. Familiar faces up the top of the leader board. Old schoolers rejoice, there is a classic in town. I wanted to push it hard and get the tail out but it just too tight and could tip reasonably easy. Corey and Mitchell, same car, two different driving styles, almost identical result. Mitchell's was a bit tippy, Corey's was nice to drive but just not fast. Have both done a nice job with this car. Team Reds Porsche was pretty good but was a bit rough through the corners. As times were close this dropped it down the order. Poetry in motion. Not fast due to being a little over powered and lacking in rear grip, but this car makes me so happy when I drive it. The way it flow's from one corner to another and effortlessly keeps speed up. If you got extra points for style then this one would top the list. Needs a little more rear end grip, but needs a lot less horsepower. A tricky one to drive. Big tyres and lots of horsepower gets you the girls but not the win. A bit of a loose cannon and had it not been for two late de-slots would have went quite well. 'Twas a fine line between good grip and tipping, the line was only crossed once...... On the verge of being a quick car. My RS200 is bigger than your RS200. Charles' RS in nice and smooth, maybe a little too powerful though. Nice and smooth was Mr Gunn Easy to drive, not much power but kept its speed up. Flipper was in the workshop when I did the photoshoot for this stage. Was also smooth to drive. How many RS200's in a row is that? Stubbos was a bit bouncy in the rear, but still managed a fast time. Slo1quick was keeping Mel company in the workshop during the photoshoot. The Alpine keeps its speed up well, it drifts well but not out of control. Now thats how its done. Top car. Then along came Phil and smoked his time . A much better effort than mine last year. It holds its speed so well. Quote Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING
Slo
Thanks for the repairs Ben. Doing a great job hosting there!! Looks like some close times throughout the field. Be interesting to see what unfolds
Ben_M
Stage 2 for WRC. Only comment is that those cars which were unsettled on exit needed to be backed off, otherwise the guide would come out of the slot as there was either a change in elevation or another corner just after the exit. Very close up the top and you have to go a long way down the field to find a gap of more than 2 seconds between places. Last year i had too much grip so, this year, new tire and compound... but i am still not happy. next year air rim with MJK, but may be with another car. Peter Gunn
Interesting running Ben thanks for the round looks like my WRC is worse than my Celica last year by a long way bit of a gap on the others , congrats to the top runners . Ben_M
You just have to get that guide deeper Peter. It was coming out in so many places. The adjustment screw on yours is all the way down and the guide still comes up higher than the front wheels. On mine I placed a bit of lead on the drop guide directly underneath where the adjustment screw is. That way it had something high to rest against to keep it lower and had a little extra weight to keep it down. The Avants are very light at the front and it took me a while to get it going well. They are great cars as Slo1quick showed last year. Quote Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING
Ben_M
Stage 2 of the Historics went down tonight, and outta nowhere we had a surprise winner. Could push it 100% and it just hung in the slot so well. It was a mid pack starter and I knew it would be hard to beat but I thought one of the big guns would have. So, well done Charles. Top 6 cars within 2.5 secs, it was very close. The Overall is wide open as well as there is nothing in the time gaps. Ben_M
So stages 1 & 2 account for less than half of the overall time as stage 3 is a big one. Plenty of things can still change on the leader board as the longer stage and faster track can suit different cars. I actually ran all 3 classes on stage 3 last Friday, it was a big day (thank you RDO). Some former entrants turned up to watch the new crop of cars hit the stage. Some old friends caught up and chatted about their time on the world circuit. Gazza and Team Red had fans turn up in team colors to show their support. So, will GAS's domination of Raid continue or will someone else step up to take him on? Will my Ninco stay constant and take the win on home soil or will it be one of the other stable Ninco that make a late charge? Historics is still anyone's game. Will Charles have another blinder, or will another wildcard take the win? Or maybe the battle between Phil and GAS will play out for the win? Of course I know the answers but its too late to start posting, so till tomorrow, go and get it sideways. Ben_M
The final results for Raid, and GAS did not have it all his way. The Kiwi upstaged him on the final stage, enough to take the overall? Had a bit of a play with Rusty's SCX, a bit down on power and the guide popped out lots. Has potential. Team Red lacked grip and didn't handle the bumps well. Plenty to come from this one in the future. Boss's car was much better on this track, but still had too much grip. Had to tip toe through some sections. Aquakiwi's was like a rocket down the straight, but was hard to keep it smooth. Dylan was a bit wild and unpredictable. Has some potential. Gazza had much more fun on the open track, but the tight corners still caught him out now and then. Rusty was fast, but a bit rough on acceleration and slightly unpredictable. Miverson's was nice but had one corner which caused issues many times. Mine lacked power and was a bit rough but it was easy to drive which resulted in fewer de-slots. AMCC was smooth but hard to continuously get the perfect lap. Still some issues with tight corners. Very nice and easy to drive. No clean sweep but still an awesome car A joy to drive, well done Charles. Be back shortly with the overall. Could not have been much closer. Thanks Ben_M for such a sterling effort. Look forward to the balance of Historics and WRC. Photos and write-up all adds to interest and suspense of event. Keep up the good work. I must compare my performance with last year as I do. Regards and all the best for Christmas and the New Year to all. Only 9 more sleeps. miveson
Top stuff Ben - awesome photos and commentary.... A bit of a shake up for the standings after the completion of stage 2 with the lead slipping away from the Grandkids and a massive movement up the leader board for a certain SWB vehicle that is surely breaking one or more of the Raid class rules. Enquiries to the proxy organiser about a minimum wheel base continue to go un-answered....... sigh!! Ben_M
Should just have enough time to get WRC finished tonight........ So. Nervous times for me as I had a bit of a lead, but not that much and as I said before, we were only halfway through. As it turned out, just like GAS, I didn't get the clean sweep. Flipper finally got his act together and came through for the win. I think his car was one of the best, just his stage 1 result where the unglued tyres made him loose time on the overall cost him. As mentioned in a previous post, this one needs the guide to stay down further. Stick with it as they are great cars. Cant explain the lack of pace from this one. It struggled with the bumps a bit which didn't help and was maybe a bit down on power. Nice to drive but didn't like the bumps on the straight, had to take it easy there. Nice and lively to drive, would be interesting to see what would happen if you dropped in a Ninco guide or something similar. These could go alright. Can't win them all hey GAS. Nice to drive, just wasn't on the pace this year. This is what happens when you let a 3 & 5 year old set up the scenery for the photo shoot. Cure gets nice and close to what must be a drunk spectator. Another one that was nice to drive but just off the pace. After driving this one last year, my mind was made up that I should give one of these Ninco's a whirl. Was nice to drive but one of the lead weights moved a bit and was rubbing on one of the rear tyres for about 2 - 3 laps at the end (sorry, forgot to tell you about that one Phil). Didn't cost too much time. Yep, thumbs up for Charles. Really fast car that keeps its speed up well. It drives very differently to the other Nincos. Just still a bit rough exiting the corners. Turn that out and it would be unbeatable!! Just your usual fast predictable Ninco right up the top of the leader board. Good job lad, enjoy it while it lasts. Gettin it done. Well done Mel. All I did to my car was put new tyres on it and send it off. I added some lead to it about 3 years ago and I haven't touched it since. It felt pretty good so I figured it would be good enough. The rear tyres on mine are slightly narrower than most of the others which I think was an advantage here, but may be its downfall elsewhere. First round win i've had in a long time. Historic tomorrow....... Peter Gunn
Thanks for the running Ben and all the hard work seems rather pointless running that car anymore with the problem it has so you had better withdraw it from the series. miveson
Series results for WRC updated with a point scoring conundrum for 3rd place. In a surprising twist of events the proxy organiser is sitting at the top of the ladder of both the WRC and the Raid series score sheets. Can Phil continue his strong form and maintain his dominance at the top or will he suffer the same fate as Red Bull Racing and fall foul of the frosty waters that sit between here and the sheepishly deserving kiwis. It is sad to see Peter retire but this gives the Red Team ala (Craigy) the chance to move up the leader board and away from anything wooden that resembles a scary phrase from his 2nd girlfriend Stay tuned as this proxy series is only just cooling down with plenty of spills and thrills over the coming months, remember it only takes a loose screw, wayward guide or slab of concrete to turn certain glory in to a flood of tears. kalbfellp
Thank you Ben, it has been a big effort to get the cars back on schedule. Well done to Ben and Flipper. This group of cars are all very good, A lot if different tracks to come, so expect some different cars on the podium. Keith don't rush to with draw your car, it is quick just needs the right track! We all are now looking forward to seeing how the cars go in in the ACT, new tracks for this year, may change everything, if the Raids are an indication. Peter Gunn
Not sure Phil as it seems to be that undrivable if it will stay in the slot at any track, as the reason it's coming out of the slot would be a problem where ever it went , but it can go along to make the numbers up something has to hold the field up from the bottom.
