Stubbo
I'll get the ball rolling. This is a chassis made by Stu Loader. A really nice bit of kit. Still deciding on a livery for the car. Quote Alan Stubbings
difinity
Is that a flex point just in front of the motor mount? Very neat work.
Stubbo
Is that a flex point just in front of the motor mount? Very neat work. No, the motor mount is actually a pod. kalbfellp
Ross the PPL chassis gives a bit much ground clearance, we have used offset bearings in the one my granddaughter is building, to lift the axle in the chassis. miveson
Use the PP as a backup plan if all else fails. Solder some piano wire to those brass brackets and vola - instant chassis with low clearance. Quote Slot Car Photos V8 Tipping Competition

shadow_rusty
I finally got around to starting mine this weekend... Bought some brass plate, and 3 thicknesses of piano wire. Got home and started checking things out, and had to go back out to get push in bushings, and alloy wheels for the rear... Started on it again, and have just realised how many more bits and pieces I'll need before it's finished... I've started work on the motor mount, as that will be the hardest part of my build... Making it out of brass plate is definitely a challenge. ps. Anyone have any 12mm inserts to suit a Cooper T53? pps. Anyone have a SRP16k FF-050 for sale? Also, here's a pic of my hand made motor mount... Still a bit to go, but it's getting there... difinity
Time for an update after a long break - re-did the rear end. Not as smooth and a 'little' hand done, but bearings in place with smooth running - a-arms, outboard bearings, hand made shocks. Chassis runs, but needs a longer guide tube (sits too high with the tyres on) and a new front end to fit in the width. Pics follow... You an just see the shocks in this one... kalbfellp
John Smedley sent me these pics of his version of one of my Elfin Mono bodies. Mel Mc wins car was an Elfin Mono 100 A with inboard springs He used Art’s Can am Exhaust cut off — that was the real lucky bit — exactly the same as Mel’s Car. My kit was of Bob Janes Twin Cam version that had a diffeert exhaust. The paint is a Subaru colour mixed acrylic lacquer. I used 3M plastic undercoat ( used on car bumpers ect) the Tamiya chrome silver spray went over it ok Also Tamiya clear went nicely over the acrylic lacquer. The transfer case is shim brass fabricated Gearing is Plafit 28T to Slotit 10T pinion. It seems ok but may have to change it top end is slow. Motor - 16K SRP Guide - Allslots EVO Tyres Front BRM 19.5 mm Classic in hard front compound Rear MJK Wheels MJK John has done a great job on this build.car. Terry
Great looking car John, I remember Mel Mc Ewen one of those stalwarts who was always "there". Nice work , and something just that little bit different. Good luck in the Tasman
kalbfellp
I think John can probably run this car for years with a colour change each year. Mel changed the colour of the original car very often. Quote Phil https://www.hobartminiaturecarclub.com/ Email
John FPR7
Thanks Terry & Phil, Yes I have a good range of colours to use on the same car if I enter it again. Mel repainted the car each time he had a new sponsor.
shadow_rusty
Thanks for posting up the pics of that wonderful looking car... You're hub side "upright-less" rear end has given me a solution to an issue that I was facing with my own suspension detailing... difinity
A further update on my little Cooper: Made a brass twin pipe exhaust Body just sitting on the chassis at this stage. Front suspension detail - upper & lower a-arms, hand made shock absorbers. A-arms also serve as axle spacers. A bit blurry, but exhaust soldered and rear end

munter
Nice one difinity. Red/yellow is good. I see that I moulded this body pre vacuum chamber....can anyone see the clue? What wheels and tires did you use in the end? Quote John Warren Slotcars are my preferred reality
difinity
Thanks. Still needs a little touch up in the paint, and the clear coat or floor varnish. Wheels are CB Designs and tyres are Paul Gage. Had to thin the fronts down 1mm though - they are 7mm standard. Just trim (dashboard, mirrors and wheel (scratch built) screen, 'seat' and hubs) to go. Not sure about the vac chamber, but body needed some prep (slightly porous surface). Pretty happy so far though - not too bad for a rattle can paint job. miveson
Going insane today - trying to solder motor bracket (brass) on to piano wire with resin cored solder and having zero luck.
