I have converted a couple of those Eldon Coronets to run on Scalex track, on a PCS32 chassis. I also moulded up the windscreen and cast my own clear version, then added an interior I moulded and cast from the Eldon Charger. They are a beautiful car when properly set up, lovely lines. I think they are a similar size to the Pioneer Dodge Charger.

Nice stuff indeed, GRT.

I have become a bit careful about scale since spending time and effort building up an old Strombecker testarossa shell.....

......and then it rained on my parade when someone pointed out its inaccurate scale. Since then I tend to be picky about this not so small detail.

Certainly a nice looking pair there but going by munters photos I'd say they're more the length of the Scaley Dodge Challenger which is about 15mm shorter than the Charger.

An Eldon Pontiac Bonneville on Ebay was said to be 5 1/2 inches, also under scale.

I've just been perusing Mopars thread - GTO on Pioneer Charger chassis - http://www.auslot.co...__fromsearch__1 - which not surprisingly seems like the way to go and I have a chassis waiting in the wings. A bit of a pity that the '68 '69 GTO's didn't seem popular race cars except for the drags. A slightly later model ran in Nascar so maybe a 'might have been' fantasy Nascar livery is the way to go?

That car has since had a new sponsorship deal and some aero added

cheers gazza, that's the one I've just started working on, been on the shelf for too long. It's gonna be a fantasy Nascar livery, don't know what colour yet. It's on a shortened Pioneer Charger chassis, a couple of mm's taken out of the top of the front arches 'cos that seemed to be quite common at the time

These guys do a Ponty Transam also - http://www.superjets...5.00&unt=10&sd=

anyone tried their kits?

I'll stick with RMS for the trans am but a superbee could be on the shopping list

good thing is their Trans Am kit is the same wheel base and width as the Pioneer Camaro and the Superbee does look good although the '57 appeals too

Rms lines up as well , although its deigned for a Scaley camaro chassis so body & chassis mounts need to altered . RMS has big flared guards which leans toward wide and low :P . Might have better look tomorrow after I've been out fossicking for bits for the 1:1 slot car .

My attempt at a fantasy Nascar livery ... along similar lines to my Carrera Roadrunner.

It was meant to be light blue but the paint I had was an auto paint and didn't want to risk it over Tamiya white so settled for another Tamiya colour I had at hand.

Nice Bram - I like the period ride height. The colour & white rims suit the era too. Where did you source the decals?

Cheers Pat, I wasn't too sure about the colour at 1st and not too sure if I'm OK with it now but it's there to stay and I was trying for the period look.

I think the decals were freebies or a bonus from Jim Heller 'cos he had sent the wrong ones previously or some such thing.

yep, I like it too and 5 is such a good number. Got an interior ready for mine now with a Scaley Escort co-driver piloting it, took a lot of convincing to let go of the notepad and grab on to a steering wheel instead

  • 9 months later...

I've got 3 Pontiacs. A 1977 TransAm because the Carrera ones are too expensive to drive and crash. A 1977 LeMans sedan, because what we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law.

And a 1976 Firebird Esprit. This took a lot of work to change from the usual TransAm to Jim Rockford's Esprit model, but what can you do on $200 a day, plus expenses?
