gazza
Finally managed to start round 5, after all the Xmas and festive commitments ...... still have a few birthdays and family things going so the rest of this round will be run over this week with the last class run on Saturday. First up for your viewing pleasure is the Raid Trucks This is the first time these have been run, we have an interesting field of vehicles with a wide choice of tyres, weight and height. As with all events on this track, it was the ability to negotiate the hair pin that placed the car at the top or the bottom of the rostrum The Avant Lancer of AMCC went like all powers around all the track except for the hairpin .... did not get around once, the body looks to have been lowered and may be fowling the guide The tyres on the rear of Ben's Schlesser had good grip for about 4 laps, after that it was like driving on ice Phils BMW just a little unstable on the track plus had a couple of hairpin issues Marks Schlesser went well just couldn't match the pace of the top three Shadow Rusty's Pro Truck went like a rocket but would let go on the hairpin without any notice, scored the fastest lap for the Raids, and was a second off the current lap record Craig's VeeDub came from no where, noticed that it had three loose wheels (Mark you had one) super glued back on and it was a surprise to drive, a couple of hiccups (hairpin) apart from that great little car truck Ross's X5, with 163 grms it literally stuck like s**t to a blanket, had an almost perfect run, a couple of minor problems but made the hairpin every time Mine ended up with an electrical problem and had a DNF, it will also be withdrawn from the rest of the series Final results winners were ..... GAS4IT, Teamred and shadow rusty Next up will be the WRC cars .......... kalbfellp
Thanks for getting things under way Gazza. I think my grippy tyres fitted to some of the cars are just too grippy on the tight corners and wont allow any slide. Ben_M
Way to make me finish last Gazza Sorry to hear you had to pull the pin. kalbfellp
At least you can blame me and Avant for you cars poor grip on this track, sorry Ben. 40 shore Eurethanes in future Quote Phil https://www.hobartminiaturecarclub.com/ Email
Ben_M
Gotta learn some how Phil, I'm taking a hit now so future entrants know what tyres not to use. If I had of sent a car that was at the right height then it would still have the Ninco tires on it. kalbfellp
As I did say Raids are "a suck it and see" this year! I am please with the entries and created interest with others who have brought for next year! curef99
honestly, i will now stick to MJK for all rally car. it is the best all rounder. The BRM got dusty last year and when it came back i knew i made the wrong decision.
gazza
Thanks for running the round Gazza. Are these final results for the raid round? Yes Mark these are the final results, i'll be running all the rounds in one big run, 18 laps, winner take all, shows up the best and worse the cars/trucks have to offer Quote Quickly read this post before it is deleted or i turn grey again Gary http://www.facebook.com/Rallyproxy2017

kalbfellp
Fabian MJK don't do a raid tyre so I made some for this year, but IMO they are a little soft. Eurethsnes are a very good all round tyre for rally car. Quote Phil https://www.hobartminiaturecarclub.com/ Email

kalbfellp
Fabian the raids need large diameter tyres. I could no find any other tyres to fit and give the required diameter. Fly truck tyresvfitvthevBoler as has different wheels. Ben as stated I did not find any. GAS41T
It's simple standard ninco tyres For raids imo cheap an are available to everyone To be honest I glued them and did heaps of Laps on my rally track with the usual clean On wet&dry I only have a scaleauto truer so I couldn't true them 😃😃😃 Edited January 14, 2015 by GAS41T

Thanks for getting things underway, glad my car was good for 4 laps at least. Noticed at Craig's (round 4) that mine was the only one without brakes, and wouldn't slow down enough for the corners, so tip tip tip, ran a few laps here and it was on off, on off with the power then nothing Quote Quickly read this post before it is deleted or i turn grey again Gary http://www.facebook.com/Rallyproxy2017
gazza
Ok the WRC cars have been run and big surprises all around First up the majority of the cars were very good and negotiated the hairpin without any problems .... most of the times, and as always this was the determining factor in the final positions The field was very close as you can see by the times and a hiccup here and there would drop a car down the list, a couple of cars stood out from the rest and one managed to do the fastest lap ever around the track Some of the action ........ Mel what can i say, it was the track cleaner but i don't think that was the problem .... just couldn't keep up, maybe it's time you won another one Ross, went well, couple of issues with the hairpin robbed you of a better spot Alexis, had little traction around the track and sounded like it was scrapping, looks like the rear of the chassis is hitting some of the high spots and hills on the track Peter Gunn .... again a couple of problems on a few of the corners Fabian .... the thing is a rocket ship, but wouldn't get around the hairpin so it would loose 1-2 seconds each lap, even when you hover marshal Charles .... another good performer, pace was down a little but also had a few corner issues Knealer, great little car, maybe a little light, bounced about a little good solid run AMCC .... another good car, pushed it to it's limits and couldn't get anything else out of it Ember .... totally unexpected, just sat on the track and never came off, the power is nothing to write home about, but it's consistent and that's what pays off in the end NTZ .... another great car, couple of hairpin issues lost a few seconds slo1quick ...... perfect ! Winners were ..... Slo1quick, NTZ and Ember Should have the final round (historics) run by Saturday afternoon Quote Quickly read this post before it is deleted or i turn grey again Gary http://www.facebook.com/Rallyproxy2017

Slo
Congrats to NTZ and Ember on the podium spots for the WRC! Top job on the round so far, as usual, Gazza, good luck with the Historics and thanks to your helpers too. Great pictorial, as usual! Pretty chuffed with the turn around for the #2 car this time round (last place here last year) .... now if only I could remember what mods' I made... Interesting to see the differing results throughout the field from track to track. Cheers
kalbfellp
Thanks Gazza for getting the WRC completed, certainly a few turn arounds on the podium. No lamp posts for the Celica to stop at has made a difference. Wonder if Embers RS will perform well on your track. Well done to Stu with the Subaru, finally going well after years of development, always a constant performer, usually let down by grip levels. The 207's are impressive. But looking at the lap times there are no bad cars in this field. Quote Phil https://www.hobartminiaturecarclub.com/ Email

Fabian, this is the hairpin, tight l/h corner roughly 120mm dia, You come down quickly through a set of steps, sharp left then down again to a negative r/h corner I noticed that your car is the SCX Pro which is fitted with a drop arm which you have taped up, also there is no guide movement ie fitting a ninco sprung guide or modifying the original Having a sprung guide defiantly helps in negotiating the hairpin, without any guide movement to help the car turn the tight corner Also, which has been pointed out before, this is a rough as guts rally track, all the routing was done by hand, including the corners, there is nothing smooth about it, having a sprung guide fitted helps with keeping contact over all the track Quote Quickly read this post before it is deleted or i turn grey again Gary http://www.facebook.com/Rallyproxy2017
gazza
OZ Rally Classics, the final stage Another great line up of cars which turned out some very quick times, and some more shuffling of the leader board On past rounds the MSC cars, on paper, were the ones to beat, but would they have it all there own way at this round, of course they were because your only reading this after you've found the results. Some of the action ....... A couple of the cars in the field, Boss 302, Aquakiwi, Branco , had tyres that offered very little grip on my track, and spent most of there time cannoning off the scenery The Mini made the hairpin every time, which was a big help ....... NTZ .... too low scraping the track, and chewing the tyres up Matt, curef99 and Shadow .... a bit unstable and down on grip Stubbo and CharlesX ..... good setup but a little down on power to catch the front runners BenM and Mel ..... Even the all conquering Fly Racing Porsche's of a few years back are showing their age, still great fun to drive but you're at %110 all the time Ember ..... good setup, felt like it was getting tired towards the end of it's run, motor ? braids? .... a set of alloy rims would help in smoothing out the ride a little more Alexis .... another great car, just couldn't push it any further, may need a little more weight, 10 - 15 gms under the top three Phil .... drove the ring off it, loved the track and heaps better than last year, just couldn't squeeze another tenth out of it Rossko ..... great setup, haven't seen the last of this one Peter Gunn .... great car to drive, not a bees dick between the three of you, keep an eye on the rear view mirror Winners were .... Peter Gunn, GAS4IT and Pkalbfell It's all done with mirrors ......
