Searching For Track History

Like many towns in the late 60s and early 70s, Hamilton once had a commercial slot car track. The track was opened for use in or around 1967 in the former Mechanics Institute building in Gray Street (between Post Office and the Hamilton Club). According to His Lordship the main proprietor of the track was Sophie Hughes. There were other amusements in the building as well including a trampoline, pinball machines and pool tables. The track was dismantled in the early to mid '70s. The building was split into three and now houses the Aboriginal Keeping Place, Hamilton Billiards Association and The Hamilton Historical Society.

I have asked around town, and although many remember that it existed no one is able to provide any further information. Even the Historical Society don't have any records of it.

It would be great to be able to gather any information about the track, Maybe one of you visited it in some distant past.

Computers. They'll never catch on.
