What Are Best Things About Slot Car Racing? (Help Me Sell It To The Unbelievers)

Recommended Posts

I suppose you could say I want you guys to help me with my homework.

You may have heard me pondering before about the possibilities of opening a small slot car centre here in town. I'm applying for some mentoring assistance and some support from the local council. But I really need to sell the idea to them. I don't need facts and figures in this particular instance. I need to display the benefit to the individual and the population as a whole.

So.... What are the best things about slot car racing?

It provides a meaningful activity for folks of all ages

In my experience kids who get into it seem to enjoy learning about tuning, upgrading and fixing the little cars,.

You could also bring in things like making tyres etc, scenery for the 'club track', basic electronics - lighting etc

I don't know if kids in your local are into things like war hammer - but with your scenic skills you should run workshops on making war hammer scenery.

Add things like enterprise skill building - e.g. take those 3 cars I repainted and did up - that is something you could run

workshops on and the participants could then sell there resto cars - I am sure they could make a small profit on each car

you could even turn the tyres and lighting into a small enterprise - create a website market the products etc

some random thoughts

Friendship is probably one single word that comes to mind. To a local council "community spirit" may be a better sell.

Any high schools close? maybe do a project with their manual arts class. Woodwork, electrical and tuning their own cars. Even a small one lane rally track.

High schools? The town has 5 of them. And a TAFE, assuming funding continues.

Spin off ideas are great guys. Keep them coming, please.

I think the face to face socialisation is going to be one of the big selling points in these days of video gaming and online activity.

few words springs to my mind........

friendships (decades, not years)

excitement

community

enjoyment

happiness

satisfaction

emptiness (if or when they close down)

also its not a offensive interest. (would a wife prefer her husband is down the road, slot car racing with a bunch of mates.....or come home 3 in the morning drunk as a skunk? (just so you don't jump to conclusions.....I don't drink)

Hi Big Mick,

most people drink, including my wife. just comparing a slot car night with 'funny men' is better than coming home......pizzed at 3.00am

just pointing out positives to Ember for her new proposal.
