mattcrackers
Hi all, In the first post of this thread there is a link to my first scratch build, a Lotus 16. In that link under post 17 you will see the beginnings of another Lotus 16 started in June 2012, only a few days ago . Anyway, with some nice weather here over the weekend I managed to spray the car up a little and thought I'd show the progress so far. This is not Munter's resin Lotus 16 from post #15 of this thread, confused yet?. The pics from 2012 to start with. A little more work was done during the year to bring the chassis 'up to scratch' so to speak, basic chassis but works for me. Used some resin filler to add the dash and scoop, lump to the hood. Also removed the area in the cockpit to allow the driver to sit lower. The body was painted with a grey primer. A coat of white undercoat was then applied followed by the taping up to apply the following colours, (sorry no pics of these colours being applied individually). I had masked the red/white and Gold up and they had sprayed up nicely with some great lines between the colours (there is a gold stripe down the side of the body). Unfortunately after applying the varnish the colours seemed to run a little, probably my impatience I reckon. And with the chrome parts in place. Still a bit of work to be done to finish this Lotus off, driver body mounts decals etc. Not a 'period correct' livery but I think it looks ok so far. The Lotus Gold Leaf decals should come up a treat. cheers Matt Edited September 7, 2017 by mattcrackers
I Am The Walrus
"Period correct" be damned. Car looks absolutely cracking. Quote A wise man once said... mattcrackers
Cheers, Everyone seems to be doing cars in 'Historic ' colours and I was always going to do this car red anyway, thought why not add a little gold and white. Didn't really notice the difference in the red in the last 2 pics until now, the red is more like the 2nd last pic to the naked eye though. I Am The Walrus
Nice. I'm calling it 'Ferrari Scarlet' to really stuff up the prudes. Quote A wise man once said... mattcrackers
Thought I'd try another set of wheels, Think I still prefer the wobbly wheels though. Edited September 7, 2017 by mattcrackers
Peter Gunn
Very nice indeed Matt chuckle definitely think your right with the wobbly wheels.
munter
That Lotus looks really good, Matt. The Red, white and gold doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I like it. Wheels though? those tractor tires and spokes have to go. Quote John Warren Slotcars are my preferred reality

mattcrackers
Yeah wobbly wheels will be staying on the car, tractor tyres and spokes are gone. I was looking at the pics of the Lotus with the wobbly wheels in the pics above, noticed the rear tyres are on the left and fronts on the right, will sort that out for the updated pics. mattcrackers
Bit of an update on the Lotus 16. Added some decals, a little paint to the driver, and screen. Still a little bit of work to do, steering wheel, seat, more paint to the driver and some mesh for the front grill. Did purchase 2 different lots of Gold Leaf decals and really wasn't happy with either of them. cheers Matt Edited September 7, 2017 by mattcrackers
munter
Smart work and smart car, Matt. Good thread this. Quote John Warren Slotcars are my preferred reality

shadow_rusty
Very nicely done there... Have you thought about possibly making the wheels gold like the nose? White like the underbody could also work... mattcrackers
Thanks for the input. DM - Nice source for more decals, thanks. I firstly sourced some Gold Leaf decals from Patto's, just wasn't happy with the Gold Leaf decal itself, more yellow with black spots than gold. Won't stop me going back for more though as I do like his peel and stick decals. The second lot I sourced from an Ebay seller which I had used their waterslide before but went with peel and stick this time round, The decal paper is too thick as you can probably tell by the English flag on the front end. shadow - I did think about going with the gold on the inserts, even painted one side up to have a look but decided on the original yellow wobbly wheel look. I'll put some more pics up when I've done a bit more work on the car. cheers Matt
mattcrackers
A couple more pics. The underside. And with the gold wheel inserts. Still prefer the yellow wheel inserts myself. Cheers Matt Edited September 7, 2017 by mattcrackers
shadow_rusty
Very nice... You could possibly darken the gold a little with some 'window' tint which may make them look a little better... That said, I think that I prefer it with the gold inserts over the yellow ones... mattcrackers
Well since Photobucket isn't playing up here's some more pics. Bit more work to Munters resin Lotus 16. Body mounts have been added. Car is up and running. I cut the drivers body out of another Lotus 16 keeping the extra piece behind the driver to use as the seat. Still more work to be done here, steering wheel, dash, wind shield etc. All the smaller parts are just held in place with blue-tac at the moment. The chassis still needs some more work done to it, tossing up on whether to add the suspension. Not sure on what colour I'm going to paint it yet, already done the green and red, maybe a fantasy Gulf livery. cheers Matt Edited September 7, 2017 by mattcrackers

mattcrackers
Thanks Terry, Munter does a great job with his resins. Nice and smooth finish to them and easy to work with.
kash15394
Why not leave it white..it looks good as it is and the white ripple wheels top it off. Kevin.
mattcrackers
The thought did cross my mind Kevin. Like I said earlier I have already done the green and red. I'll call it a Lotus 16 prototype hey. cheers Matt
