SlotsNZ
Just sticking up first post and pinning it as a placeholder for the Auckland guys, who are considering hosting a Group 5 proxy series in 2014 - in addition to the CanAm. I'll let Drew and DRW21 take over from here Quote Recovering Lapsed Slot Addict * Custodian of many used screws (mostly loose ) * Total kidder * Companion of other delusional slot addicts
drw21
Hi Guys, Mike, Drew and I are thinking of having Canam again next year but earlier in 2014 (about March) so we can also have a decent break and then a proxy race for Group 5 cars. I have some subtle changes for CanAm, one of which allows cars that ran in the European Interserie races to be able to run in CanAm, that way no one has to repaint a body and that also allows a couple of other cars like the Chevron B19 and Lola 290. More details as we have them 'nailed'. The Group 5 proxy will be based on the CanAm so tweaking and tunning of cars will be catered for in the same manor. Racer is doing an awesome job of putting RTR Group 5 cars on the shelf for us, click on this link and scroll down to the bottom for a sneak peek. http://www.auslot.co...s/page__st__180 Let us know if you are keen on CanAm and or Group 5 - Dave
charlesx
Hi all. I am very keen on continuing Canam as you are aware so I will not repeat myself. Have no problem with inclusion of Intersie Cars/colour schemes providing also raced in Canam proper. Not sure about other cars as not sure what raced but 2 mentioned sound OK. Instead of Class A and B however what about podded and non-podded or just make open. Was certainly not keen on Transam as too close to Nats Muscle car class and there are other similar proxies. Group 5 however has some appeal. Would cars also have to conform with real car colour schemes? My own preference however is for Aussie Holden and Falcon V8's but I appreciate they are not the most liked vehicle because of poor OTB performance. To me however that is the attraction. drw21
Hi Chas and others, seems like CanAm isn't yet too old going by the comments by most - COOL!!!! I'll do some home work on what is eligible for CanAm from the Interserie deal, I know a couple of '4 pots' did race with the big bangers. I'll get some info on them and consult the rest of the team for a result that will be mentioned asap here and covered within the rules for 2014. I'm gonna start working on updating the CanAm rules asap. Specific dates and race venues for the 2014 CanAm Proxy Series will be sorted asap and they will be posted way before entries will be open later this year. No one will miss the chance to enter, we have plenty of time to get CanAm sorted and the info posted on this forum. I will start working on the 2014 races sooner than later so that we'll all know what's going on and we can get ready for it, don’t really want any last minute panics going on. Regarding Group 5 cars, my intention would be that actual liveries would not be necessary as long as the car looks like a car that could've raced in a Group 5 race within the year frame we decide on. This would come down to important things like style of wheels (inserts to us RTR guys), model chosen, body mods done, age period of decals etc. Not hard to get right with a little bit of research. There will have to be more specific rules to keep the spirit of Group 5 in tact but still allow for some 'expression of individuality' if that makes sense, a bit like what the VRAA have regarding car appearance. For those that just want to get a Group 5 car, tune it, enter that then they will be able to do that too. Hope that helps to paint the picture I have in mind - Dave

charlesx
That's fine with me Dave. Look forward to your further input. Sounds like V8's not a goer but was still pretty happy with support particularly on other side of Tasman. Another time perhaps. drw21
HI Guys....... Chas - Aussie V8s would make a change for sure but may be a bit limiting with just 2 body styles (some one said to me last week "it would be better to improve a bad car than start with a terrible car") Racer are doing a fine job of getting cool cars on the shelf and that is hard to ignore. Its great that we have good number of entries from across the Tasman for Proxy racing in NZ. Manimmal - I've admired your Zakspeed Escort for ages and it has inspired me to want to build up a similar monster but I wouldn't be able to race it as it wouldn’t fit into any RTR type chassis classes that I know of here in NZ. The NZ Group 5 proxy for 2014 rules will be based on what we have for the CanAm Series, a scratch built chassis is permitted but it will have to be made from plastic and be very simple for good reasons too. Here is that rule copied from the last proxy rules – [bracing - Plastic or printed circuit board may only be used to brace chassis components. Metal material is prohibited as chassis bracing with the exception of the following: You may use as your base, a podded or non-podded chassis from such as, but not limited to Slot.it, Ninco, MBSlot, or NSR, or graft/engineer an RTR or home made plastic chassis of podded or non-podded type or graft a pod from one maker into another chassis. Modified chassis must be one piece between the axles apart from motor pods. This will give entrants a choice as to how much engineering they are willing or able to undertake. You may then fit any of these chassis types into a legal plastic body, or home made or mass made resin body.] So within those confines you can actually make a plastic chassis for your Escort or simply HRS it, we’d love to have it included in the Group 5 Proxy Race - Dave

telboy
I would definitely be a starter for this. I have been wanting to get one of these cars for quite a while. Seems like a mighty fine excuse to me to investin one. Cheers Trent
