Looks great DM. How did the strips go ?

Real good mate, they worked well, there are 4 of them now - a long wide one for straights and 3 (long, medium and short) narrow ones for curves.

Neil
I wish it was hassle free - I first started thinking of making a new track Christmas 2011 :) so don't give up yet - I will email you my folder of collected ideas. My biggest hassle is I wanted it all, I wanted as much track as I could get and I wanted to be able to run my trains as well. hopefully my idea for making that work will actually work.

Well after many planning and shuffling and fiddling around, my dad came over while I was at work today and managed to put in some permanent risers for the elevations. You may notice some slight differences between the photos above and these shots.
I have run my battery car around and it goes fine.

So if I can find a bit of time I might have it running in a couple of weeks, hole filing and sanding and undercoat this week and then paint it next week...I am still undecided on paint. I used gloss paint on my last track but I am thinking about using a suede effect paint on this one after reading davnic's thread....decisions decisions

cheers
David

You're getting quite a shuffle on.

Working on the back straight.

Hills are foam and plaster soaked chux clothes, plus some fly screen and newspaper coated in plaster clothes. Rocks are from rubber moulds. I have been busy processing some foam to cover the hills - will use a mix of static grass, ground foam and some small trees I have from my model railroad days.

Having fun - figure once I get this mostly finished I can paint and tape as most of the other scenery I can reach from the front.

Rocks aren't finished I am working on getting the shading right...

Looking good. But, I must say your green is very intense. Must be plenty of rainfall in that part of the world.

Tis the problem with being colour blind

It is in Virginia and does seem to have some luscious green colours... though I was tempted to go for an autumn theme as there are some beautiful photos with autumn hues

Looking Good , rather than clouds it may be easier work with a slightly stronger blue brushed randomly in the top third of the background. Enjoy St Pat's day.

DM, this was my first attempt at clouds. A bit of white paint then dry brush it out in swirls to look like a cloud and some light grey at the bottom to give it some depth. I got a bit carried away with my cloud painting here: could've done with a couple less, but I think they would add to the depth and feature of your background.

Progress shot - painted the first coat of the track paint - it is a suede effect paint. I am caught in between finishing all the scenery and wanting to get the track running :)

Nice work David. Try a little grey on the underside of the clouds - they are in the 'shade'.

Good tip, thanks KK, I work in fits and spurts on things, I probably need to commit to finishing something before I start the next thing (nah! that will never work for me)

after getting the basic outline of the clouds done I backed off them for a while, need to finish some of the painted rocks on the backdrop as well

cheers
David
