Went from this sane, yet flowing 1/43 Carrera track

To this insane mess with 4 main straights right down the middle...

Nice to see someone admitting to using plastic track as it should. Mix it up and learn what you like in a race track. Hope there wasn't too much carnage at the crossroads.
Computers. They'll never catch on.

There was a little, but not too much...
It was just my best mate and I, as crossroads do not encourage kids to be friendly with cars...

In the last month, I think I've build about 15 different Carrera Go tracks...
And the kids have probably built 10 AFX tracks...

I have now upgraded to Scalextric Digital (With the help of my father), so the racing is even more intense now...

Here's a track that reminds me of Autumn Ring Mini in Gran Turismo 5...
I built the track, went outside, and when I came back in, instantly all I could see was autumn ring mini...

Had my brother, his children, and my best mate over on the weekend, which combined with me and my 3 children was quite a gathering...

My brother brought over some of his track, cars and APB...

6 Cars racing on this track was just crazy...
4 Curved Crossovers, 2 Classic straight crossovers and 4 straight double lane changers probably didn't help any...

Unfortunately I owe my brother a bottle of superglue...

Classic mini lost it's front bumper

New mini lost it's taillights

V8 Supercar lost it's rear wing (Sorry Luke... I really am...)

Picked up a few more pieces (Thanks Steve), and borrowed a few off of my brother, and this is what I ended up with...

Posted Image

Also tried out some cardboard borders, which didn't work...
It's 10mm cardboard, with the track raised 2mm, but it just wasn't accurate enough for height and it felt like hitting a wall...

Still awesome fun with the jags which have no magnets, and reasonably quick with the Lambo's with medium magnets.

EDIT: Adding Track Layout...

Here's the sad part of life as a rug racer...
Well, a couple of hours after the previous photo the track had to come up...

Track all disassembled and piled up in same piece piles...
The powerbase on the right, plus all of the white stickered piles are my brothers, but the rest is mine...
Posted Image

And somehow I managed to fit all of that into the original Digital Jag box...
Approx 40 corners, approx 35 straights, 4 controllers, power supply and 2 pb4 powerbases...

Who says rug racers can't have scenery...

This was a really fun technical track...
Posted Image

Scenery is mostly Fireman Sam stuff, with a little bit of lego, and 1 transformer...
Best use of kids toys yet... lol.

Visited my brother on the long weekend...

Here's the layout of the track we built using our combined sets...
It's approximately 21m, and covered his entire lounge room floor...

Went to the in-laws today, and was allowed to bring my track...
Had a lot of fun building this track...
The only disappointing thing was that the straight needed to be longer, but I ran out of space...

It is a very flowing track, and was actually big enough for all fours cars to race without issues...

Went to my Brothers and had some more fun combining out sets...
Even though there were 3 lanes under the bridge, the caos was not as high as expected...

Had some fun with analog cars...
I put a digital chips between the digital powerbase and each of the analog lanes.

Whilst it worked quite well, I managed to blow up a chip... Apparently scaley chips can't handle a dead short on the motor side of them, even for a split second...
So, wasted $27 instead of a 5c fuse...
Half wondering if I should put a fuse on all the motor outputs...

Anyway, here's a pic of the boys having some fun before it all went pear shaped...

Love my rug racing. Love some of your track designs. Damage does come with digital racing. We use F1s for our digital racing. After a couple of hundred laps they look a bit worse for wear. I spend the next three weeks rebuilding cars.

THanks SigmaMan...

My biggest constraint for building tracks is the space available... Our house is just too small...
The next constraint that I want to solve is that I need more variety in corners... R3's and R4's would be nice... Even a few 22.5 degree R1's and R2's would make a difference...

Space is tough for me too. I live in a typical 60 odd year old house. Largish bedrooms but small living areas. I've 8 or 9 R4s and 4 R3s. Couple of half R2s(invaluable they are).3 R1 hairpins,8 R1s and 2 half R1s. Try not to use the R1s when I set up for the kids as they don't cope with them too well. I love 'em though.

That's a nice selection of curves...

With the R1's, if you put 1 or 2 45 degree corners between R2's (i.e. R2, R1, R1, R2), the kids will have a lot less issues with them...
The only issue then is to make sure you go fast enough so you don't drop a wheel off the inside edge...

The only issue then is to make sure you go fast enough so you don't drop a wheel off the inside edge....Thats the other problem. That they do. Some half moon inner borders fix that. The daughters getting the hang of them but small boy has a few hassles still. Less frustration to leave them out. Means slightly less track length though. This is one of the tracks I had jammed into our sunroom late last year. More often than not though I end up building in my sons bedroom.
