miveson
As you are all more than aware I finished a very poor #38 out of 42 in the SCX Rally 2012 - I thought i had a pretty good car but it was obvious after the first few rounds that my car simply didn't cut it. Still the constant pain and suffering throughout the 2012 season gave the missus plenty of ammunition. I've decided to try a slightly different approach for 2013 and have already started selecting the gun motor from the few cars that I was able to source. I bought one of those digital taco's and simply put the slot.it gear on the axle and measure performance. I'm curious if everyone ran 4x4 during the 2012 series or can I remove the pinion and shorten the motor shaft? miveson
You'll need to ensure that it's a WRC car - not sure the Escort is eligible. I can send you a chassis/body that is eligible if you like. gazza
The 2013 rules, when posted, will basically be the same as last year but with a control tyre. The cars are 4wd and must remain 4wd via the RX-81 motor, with all 4 wheels turning i just picked up a Ford Escort RS Cosworth 'Michelin' #1 from armchair. You know the Escorts not included in the class Quote Quickly read this post before it is deleted or i turn grey again Gary http://www.facebook.com/Rallyproxy2017

Ontheflipside
Can the posts on the interior that locate the axle bearings be cut off to allow body float? I did noticed a few that potentially the tyres could rub on the body, especially those that had a bit too much float. As well as keeping an eye on that the two other things I observed with the great cars V's the good cars were: You could could get free movement rolling the back wheels - usually a well run in motor and gearing and the guide moved freely when pushed up against the chassis. Many were biting and this IMO caused de-slots on the tighter corners. As well as all the other basic set ups. Highlander
Mark, I am interested to hear what your motor comparison shows up. I don't feel it can give any benchmarks without Torque data too however, just an understanding of the degree of variation in RX-81's would be interesting to know. Ontheflipside
Interesting - thank you Does motor spin (by hand) more freely than the others Quote I can't believe that I wanted to grow up Mount Salt Panorama Track Combined Road and Rally Track built near Salt Pan Creek Padstow - Sydney A quick build rally track 2017 WRP Round 11 at Mt Salt Panorama https://i128.photobu...zpss7sqiwfj.jpg
miveson
Does motor spin (by hand) more freely than the others The two higher rpm motors spin much more freely now, but that's more to do with me running them in over the last few days, they are significantly smoother than before. Out of interest I took last years Subaru motor and tested it @ 11900. I looked a bit further at the Subi and in dismantling it I discovered that there were some pretty obvious issues with it. - The pinion on the front gear had a completely worn tooth - The wheels were ridiculously out of sorts I'm not sure what to do with the wheels - last year I spent some time truing both the wheels and the tyres but then I had nothing but hassles with the wheels falling off, even after gluing them and then it is obvious that gluing the wheels can mean that they aren't aligned perfectly on the axle. I'm interested to know if anyone else sleeves the axle part of the wheel to reduce the possibility of cracked wheels causing issues? I'll probably pick the best wheels from the bunch I have and sleeve them. I'm hoping in the new year to organise somewhere to give the cars a test run.
