hello everybody,

4 weeks to go and i will be getting in a plane for my new work challenge in adelaide. For the time being i am living in cambridge UK.

I bought 4 second hand micro scalextrics set for my 2 sons (4 and 8) at christmas, few cheap micro scalextric car and spend lots of hours on them since. the 4 years old like to build new tracks every 30 min and the 8, like to race. But i discovered a month ago that adelaide is into 1/32... so i have build a collection in the last 4 months mainly coming from ebay uk or the slot car festival with the money of the airsoft i have to sell.

i bought few cars only to be able to race on all the types but after more thinking, i think i will trade few of them (**) when i reach adelaide. i am trying to stick to french car as much as possible but for few category it was not possible and then it is the best opportunity or my son (corvette NSR and pioneer mustang for example) who decided.

Welcome!

If you want to have a go at racing that Pioneer Mustang we race those on our track in Sturt, which is near Marion Shopping Centre (south of city) on the first Saturday of each month. We also run Scalextric Mustangs and Camaros and SCX Barracudas, and no doubt will have some other Trans Am class cars like the Pioneer Camaros and Javelins when those finally come out.

We are also considering running a longer wheelbase class of cars like the Monogram and Carrera classic NASCARs and the various Dodge Chargers (Scalextric and Pioneer) if we get enough.

I might also be able to find some casual work for you in conversational French tutoring through my place of work if you or your wife are looking for that. French is taught where I work. I could do with some lessons in it as well!

i will start the adventure on the 20th july and my family will join one month later. On my first 3 days in netley i already have a bank appointment and mobile phone to set, a slo.it competition in lockleys on saturday (first test of the rileys on track) and a paintball sunday... monday, first day in the office.

Thanks for your 2 proposals, the mustang is for my son and i have seen some of your video, so i will try to make it once. I am thinking of trading the dodge as i found it too big.

About the rally car, i am a fan of WRC... a Loeb fan. i am trying to slowly buy all the car the master has driven. But for the time being i should learn to drive as i am a beginner on 1/32 scale.

Can you both give me a post code for the tracks via PM, i will have no car (only slot one which won't help to move around) for some time?

about the french lesson, well, no problem, my family will arrive mid august and my wife love languages (speak 4) and would be keen on connecting with people locally.

Good luck with the move. Hope Adelaide doesn't cause you too much culture shock. Or should that be lack of culture shock.

No. Really, Adelaide is a lovely place. I used to think it was a quiet and sleepy city, then I spent 10 years living in regional Victoria. Now I know what a cultural coma is all about!

Hope it all goes well.

Sturt is 5047. You can look these up online easily. http://www.postcodes-australia.com/. It is famous for the Marion Megaplex, one of the biggest cinema megaplexes in Australia, as well as being one of the biggest shopping malls. You will end up there at some point, no doubt.

Craig - who co-owns the Sturt track with Steve - lives in Henley Beach, which close to where you will be living.

I would recommend hanging on to the Charger for a bit. You might find that you will have an opportunity to race it here. It would run pretty well on that oval that BMR has (a fair way south for you though), or other tracks down here with big sweeping bends. They run pretty well on Steve and Craig's track but the T/A cars like Mustangs are best suited to that track. I can keep up with them in a Charger though. I have the exact same model that I have been hotting up with aftermarket parts.

Slotpig (who is rarely on here) lives fairly close to Steve and I and he is a 1:1 rally driver and slot car enthusiast. He has quite a few rally cars and there might be opportunities to race against him. He also builds wooden tracks and I think might have a three-lane compact super-8 style track for sale at the moment that's all rubbered up and ready to go. If you want a compact track for home he could either sell that one or build you one (for money, of course). I have raced on it against him and found it to be a lot of fun. It suited everything from the SCX Escort to the Pioneer Mustang, and the Monogram GTX even made a good show of getting around it, although it found the corners a bit tight!

I might have to dig out my beginner's french books and give it a go again. I started learning a couple of years ago but workloads got too much in my new job so I had to withdraw from that course. Four languages! That's impressive.

I'm not sure which video you are talking about. I think you must have it mixed up with another track. Maybe BMRs?

yes, it is slotcaradelaide where i will race if i can.

burglar, thanks for all the infos... the megaplex may be useful if i have a free night before the family arrive.

about the track, i will probably order or do one compact after october (i already have more that 6 meters of scalextric micro and my wife do not like the noise of it in the leaving room  ). first i need to get the furniture and the location. i will keep his name in a corner of my mind. Also, i love driving... so i need to plan an afternoon on track early august, he may be useful to know someone doing rally driving as he may know the best way to have a fun track or rally day. Ask him about it if you see him.

about the cars, as i said, i bought mainly french cars, loeb rally, because i have history (alpine a310 cannot run on any category in adelaide but it was the first rally car i went in when i was 12, BMW touring because i drove it last year on a track in UK), because my son loved it (renault f1, corvette, mustang) or because they were too cheap to let go for one of the category accepted in adelaide (nsr 917K gulf, racer riley, scx bmw F1, dodge w/o box, scx mercedes DTM, scx nascar).

about this last category, if i found a good replacement or a car i want, i will trade for sure, even the dodge. there are few cars i want to get my hand on (scalextric laguna blend, avant A310 yaco, scx ds3 loeb, ...) and i already have 5 other waiting for me in adelaide + 4 that i may buy in UK on saturday. i am trying to stay away from the brands i do not own yet to be able to learn well to tune the one i have: SCX, scalextrix, Avant, nsr, racer, autoart, (may be brm 1/24 after tonight).

I think i got the slot car desease... do you have a treatment in australia for such an illness?

I think i got the slot car desease... do you have a treatment in australia for such an illness?

Sorry to say, that despite recent medical advances, there is no known cure for this disease. It's a horrid, insidious disease because the sufferer may appear normal in all other respects. But its effects can prove detrimental to health of relationships and bank balance.

The best we can offer you is the support of the similarly afflicted individuals that you'll find here on Auslot. Call it a self-help group if you must.

Together we may find cure....

as for my side, on my first 3 days, i am already having multiple appointment (bank, mobile, ...), a slot it competition and a paintball field help... what does that make me ?

i watch some of the video and check some of the track pictures... for a petrol head like me, adelaide looks like a dream slot car destination... too bad my wife want to sell our clubsport before we come that would have been the perfect balance. slot car/cycle/HSV clubsport

about the slot cars, as i said, there are few that i bought because they were too good to pass... but i have quite a few french cars that i want to get my hand on (loeb scalextric and SCX cars, scalextric laguna blend driven by menu and plato, ...), so, let me arrive and we will make some trade.

i spend 15 mn on the tokyo track, http://www.hakuhinka...acing_park.html, i have a lot to learn in driving 1/32... nothing similare to the HO scale.

  • 4 weeks later...

Steve (Maesbury Circuit) tells me that you have been in contact. Seems that you got him and I mixed up though. He is not on Auslot. My name is David but he calls me Burglar, that's why I use it as a name here (pretty much everyone who has been to his track calls me Burglar, and don't know me by anything else). I look forward to meeting you when we have our next meeting, which should be on the first Saturday in August. I have some spare M10 Maxxtracc silicone tyres to suit the Pioneer Charger (and Bullitt Mustang) wheels that I could lend you, but I don't think I have spares of the M6 tyre that the Trans Am Mustang uses.

I will probably run urethanes anyway, as the last time I ran them on that track I was beating the silicone cars. Not sure why, but I suspect it was due to the fact that silicones can be very sensitive to track conditions.

hello ray, thanks for the invite. I am planning to go to Thunderbird on saturday as the weather is bad.

I have an NSR ford MK4 reserved and i need to set up some car for monday with MJK tyres.

Unfortunately it is too far for an evening for me (bus and cycling for the time being) unless i found someone passing by netley.

regards

fabien

i went to tbird yesterday, and i bought too much... my little nsr ford was waiting for me and he also add an SCX renault8... but it is in the spare part that i did bad.

motors, rear axe, wheels...

at least my avant peugeot 908 is now running smoothly. it is still too tail happy and i still have a lot to learn as it was only my 5th time on track.

by the way, does any body if there is a way to get stronger magnets for SCX RX 41/42 motors.

the other way to get faster motor is to decrease the number of loop of the wires... but it is dangerous as it generate more heat.

i also had a look at scalextrix shop on dawn street this afternoon... very good for the kids.

Fabian, you live quite close to Craig (co-owner of the Maesbury Circuit track). Craig lives in Fulham, very close to Henley Beach Road. Steve's place (and the track) is walking distance from Marion Shopping Centre.

show do i get in touch with craig? can someone give him my contacts. is he also driving on silicon? i have more of my car on rubber.

see you next saturday at marion shopping center. any specific info on the location?

Hi Fabian

I've sent you a PM. The address is in the name of the track ...

I have run rubber, urethane, and silicone on that track. The conditions tend to favour silicone but last time I was there my car was fastest, running on wide SCC urethanes
