I am looking for a guinea pig to test the form I have created to order slot car chassis. Anyone want/need a chassis printed. You pick a car and I’ll send you a form to fill in with the sizes. I will draw the chassis and then print it.

Hi,

I'd be interested in getting a Ford BA Chassis printed, but I am in Australia. I can send my details via pm if you are still looking for guinea pigs. Surprised you haven't had any volunteers, or are they contacting you via pm?

Cheers,

Graeme

All good - I am looking for a chassis that would be suitable for converting some 1/24 kits such as the re-released Tamiya bodies into slot cars. A few metal chassis options available but they cost $70-$100 +  per chassis. I have found a few options on thingiverse and have a mate with a 3D printer. What I am keen on doing is designing a chassis myself and then getting it printed. Thought if you are in the 'development phase' it was worth asking.

cheers

David

Does a Slot-it HRS chassis stretch this far. Do BRM sell a variable chassis. What about making some basic brass ones. Use motor and front axle bracket and it is quite easy.

If printing can you just scale up a HRS, MRRC or similar chassis. There also seem to be plenty of also produced by likes of Shapeways but then again they are fairly dear.

Hi Chas Couple of things with adapting a 1/32 chassis - the wheels on 1/24 cars are larger and thus the axle position isn't correct. Also 1/24 wheels use 3mm axle so need 6mm oilites so the standard 1/32 won't fit. BRM don't sell an adjustable chassis. Scaleauto sells one but it it more designed for modern GT cars. I have considered the brass route and have made two. It doesn't appeal to me as a solution for the 15 or so cars I have. :) Sharpeways chassis are almost as dear as metal chassis once you factor in conversion and postage.

cheers David

I'll go hunting. I am sure I left my game somewhere.

Hi Dangermouse.

Hear what you say but possibly you are ruling out some of options too early. Agree the likes of Shapeways are very expensive.  Have you looked at Hobbies Plus, Palmerston North. Think some of Gill's chassis might be reasonably cheap. Certainly much cheaper than $70.

Will have a look at a HRS and see what I can suggest. Some simple spacers may solve you ground clearance problems. Hear what you say about 3mm axles too but metal cars I have seen only have 3/32 axles. Do your rules say 1/8th.

Should be very simple to set up a jig to mass produce a 1/24th brass chassis.  Suggest you have a talk to Dave West. He is a brass specialist. You would need to build in adjustment  so you could vary wheelbase. Beauty of HRS though is that you can fit motor mount to suit motor orientation without having to vary chassis. One option too would be to fit Slot-it motor mount in a brass chassis.

Will post a photo of simple 1/24th chassis I made a while back for GP car. Had intended to enter Adelaide proxy a few years back but never got around to finishing.

Get that thinking cap working.

Hi again Dangermouse.

Chris Walker in Canada is another  brass chassis guru.

All my brass chassis cars are very basic and mainly 1/32nd. Also mainly built for proxy events which I have raced in Aussie, Canada and the USA.

Earlier cars were entirely brass rod using BWA motor and front axle mounts. Later used piano wire  for main chassis members. Main effort with GP cars was put into non-working suspension detail.

Hi all.

Im a little rusty myself and was wondering if anyone would allow me some time on a track. Just to see my cars are still working how they should. Have done some tuning at home on my circular test track but I want to open up the throttle to see if the tuning has done its job. If not hey no problem.

I'm addicted to Slot Cars.
