waytofast
Never tried my hand at building slotars from plastic models. But gave it a try and now am hooked. Using the aussie made MJK chassis and running gear. see pics below. http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h390/slotracer22/IMG_1076.jpg

Yours look great particularly the drag dodge charger. Nice work. Im just finishing up a 1961 plymouth copcar with flashing lights & siren. Ill post some pics today hopefully. slotbaker
Yep, for sure. You can't have a race car without a race driver. Quote Steve K.
waytofast
hi all, thanks for the kind words. slotbaker, they perform around the same as BRM 1:24 scale cars. mobbzee, yep, i know they need drivers, just dont have any at the moment. i have some more models on the "to do" list most shops sell MJK tyres but not many sell MJK's other lines. its a shame as they are great australian made, quality products to me, their wheels in both scales are much better than the imports. try this link for their catalogue. http://www.mjkeng.com/ cheers, steve

Burglar
These builds look killer and I have been keen to have a go myself. I got a couple of AMT model kits in the mail this week, the 1965 Fairlane Modified Stocker and the 1964 Mercury Marauder 3-in-1 kit. Both are pretty simple kits, with limited chassis detail, unrealistic bonnet hinges etc, although the body mouldings are pretty nice. I think they would actually be easier to bring up to standard as slot cars than as static models (which would require a lot of improvements underneath to create realistic model race cars). I also got a couple of set of Fred Cady NASCAR decals for the Mercury. I might get a second kit of the Mercury and build one as detailed static model and the other as a slot car with accurate outer body details and interior. The Fairlane is already a race car and thus requires minimal work. If I wanted to detail the interior a bit I could do that but there isn't much point. The interior on the Mercury includes some race parts but really the race option to be done accurately requires a fair bit of work otherwise it is a full stock interior with a roll cage and some gages in it. There are a couple of good books by Bill Coulter on building muscle cars and stock cars in this scale by Kalmbach. One of them - the one on stock cars - includes a chapter on these early Fords and Mercurys, as well as others on Chevys, Pontiacs, Plymouths, and Dodges. Building and Detailing Scale Model Stock Cars Building and Detailing Scale Model Muscle Cars I know that I did find the second one online somewhere (ebookee maybe). The first one I bought on ebay. The model kits have some cool old-school boxes: That's how the model looks built stock out of the box. Note that side chrome is moulded on. The following photo is of one that has been modified to create a fully-detailed replica of the Parnelli Jones #15 car using one of the decal sets I bought (note the absence of side mouldings and the changes to the interior, which do not seem completely accurate): Edited April 19, 2012 by Burglar
waytofast
hey burg, being a nascar fan, i love what you have done to recreate the parnelli #15. im retiring at the end of june and have about 20 models to build, all nascars of course. cheers, steve
Burglar
That's not my car ... that's a French guy's model. I plan to paint mine up the same way, but I won't have all the under bonnet detail obviously. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that. I am only starting out with building these 1/24 scale cars and I haven't painted much other than military models before. When I have the Parnelli Jones one done I plan to have a go at a static model of the Joe Weatherly #8, complete with detailed engine and interior (including driver figure). The Jones one will give me a chance to practice doing the most exterior mods. I might go for a fairly simple interior yet, simply for reasons of weight.
