Thanks guys. You Northerners are most welcome next year. Wow imagine 40 or so top notch drivers going for it!!! Cars were quite evenly matched. Blenheim crew were really impressive, and were quite impressed with the RTR set up so maybe look for a bit of a rise in interest from those guys.

It certainly seems like numbers are on the up in our hobby and these type of events certainly help down here in the deep South. There are rumours spreading of a proposed 3 series event being held over summer featuring Nelson, Blenheim & Christchurch.

Bidwells, Mark Millings, Nigel Boyce, Split, I see one hell of an RTR enduro team there! 2015 guys?

Yep, that's what I thought as well.

Nice write up and congrats on the podium Mark. Prepare for a North Island invasion next year! assuming we are welcome of course.

Yep Tony is always more the merrier kind.

I actually tossed up staying on in Wellie, going to ChCh for their night racing then up to Tony's for a few days, but just couldn't manage so many days away at once right now. Probably glad I didn't, might have got two kickings in one week going by the results. If host and Split can't make the top 4, sheesh, they must have some Schumaker drivers there.

Yeah. I've mentioned to the Wellie boys, - especially Paul B. who is chair or the RTR slotting subcommittee, that it would be really useful to coordinate RTR events as much as is practical in 2015.

Which really comes down to trying to plug the Nationals, the National RTR enduro, Tony's events, and anything else major happening in the South Island, - as well as anything "big" up north on Henderson all into a calendar grid, and see if we can rig them at suitable intervals so people who want, are able to engage as many as possible.

Need to chat with Tony C. on that too, and then we can start positive scheming for next year.

What a turnout of star SI metal racers. Mark you are in hallowed company on the podium there. You told me you couldn't build cars!! Pants on fire and all that!

If it came with Mark's blessing how about a Slot.it based NI round you SI guys. Looks like we are coming your way!

Cheers Chris

"What a turnout of star SI metal racers." They went really well, maybe they be "former" metal racers.

"You told me you couldn't build cars!! Pants on fire and all that!" NSR's only need basic tuning, even a fool like me can do that and no pre race tyre treatment used by me either!!

"If it came with Mark's blessing how about a Slot.it based NI round you SI guys" Sounds great.

"Looks like we are coming your way!" Lol, shall we lock up our daughters or the sheep!!!!!!!

The 2nd Annual Garden City Invitational was held on 31st May in sunny Christchurch.

Due to the late announcement of this event there was a small but quality field of racers raring to go.

The surprise of the day was revealed during the drivers briefing, the track was going to be run in the opposite direction!!

American Muscle was the 1st class to be contested.

Drivers were allocated 5 minutes of free practise and then qualifying began.

John Hoogenboezem set the fastest time with a 6.128.

The heats were hotly contested and the sledging even more so (the Australian cricket team would have been proud).

Westport's Mark Millings top top place with some consistent driving, with poleman John 2nd and Bruce Northway putting in some great driving for 3rd.

Fastest lap went to Robin Allan with 5.846.

Next class was Group C.

Standard Slot It cars with any rubber rear tyres and weight allowed.

Again John Hoogenboezem was top qualifier in his Lancia LC2 with a solid time of 5.394.

Alas, John had to settle for the bridesmaid position as Paul Welford top his Lancia to the top of the leaderboard with some blistering and consistent lap times as John's car lost grip near the end of each heat.

Fastest lap to Paul with 5.403.

Final event of the day was GT Open.

The racing was about to get more intense as the speed of these cars kept everyone on their toes.

NSR cars were in the majority with some Slot its and even a Scalextric car doing battle.

John H learnt that being top qualifier in the previous 2 classes meant nothing so he didn't hit the top spot, leaving KJ to surprise us all with a blistering 4.945 with his NSR Corvette.

But with top qualifying the pressure was on and it proved to much for KJ as Mark M turned the screws up with his Mosler. A spirited last heat from Paul W saw his valiant effort full (fool?) short by just half a lap.

Fastest lap during the race, Matthew Welford and his Mosler 4.994

Mark Millings was awarded top driver of the day with 2 wins and a 3rd place.

Everyone thanked Malcolm Salisbury and John Hoogenboezem for a well organised and fun day of racing.

I urge anyone looking to race at a great place to keep the Garden City Club at the top of their list.

Yes Mark I was very happy to take out the overall honours and to get 2 wins.

Them Chch boys are top racers and good car builders.

10 of them are heading to Nelson in 2 weeks time and I am confident that they will acquit themselves very well.

Only 10? I wonder where the numbers for the weekend are coming from then. Tony said there are 52 coming all up - or is that 10 just from Garden city.

That might be not counting the guys who only race at ToppSlots Motoplex.

It is always our intention to make the invitational truly an invitational event.

The first was run with little publicity just to see if we could do so and also to create an annual Chch event. That event was very succesful and won by John Hoogs.

The organisers have had very busy lives with house rebuilds and other such things so it is unfortunate that notice was short. We found that Queens birthday was only 2 and a half weeks away when we decided that we would run the event. Last year ran so well that we just repeated the rules ans classes from the previous year.

Be put on notice now, that next year we will be running the garden city invitational again. Queens birthday weekend 2016.

More comprehensive rules will be drafted soon to hopfully cover all those questions that we all take for granted at club level.

We have found these meets an awfull lot of fun both to run and play, and while we are sad to see such a prostigious trophy go to the west coast it just means he has to come back to defend his title.

Thanks for doing the write up M.M.

wish there was more than one slot in each corner for me.

Then I would just fall out of one and into the next.

Sounds like a great event, on a great looking track. So for it to be a truly invitational event how are people to be invited?
