That would be a rumour as there is nothing on the NZSCA site about anything for 2014

Hi all. At this stage the date is indeed the 28th Feb but until it appears on the NZSCA website it is not official. However unless here s a very od reason to change it I think you would be safe to begin planning aound that date. We considered altering this date in light of Mac and some others but it would have inconvenienced others we thought.

Is anyone here planning on coming?

Chris

thanks for fwding the email to me. The closeness fo the date has caught me on the back foot a bit.

We only have one more newsletter before the nats. - 1st February.

Who could send me the information in a format I can copy. - PDFs are locked and trying to re-type a load of stuff is way too much hassle.

Also I needs logos, and a working link to the rules etc for best promotion.

Any idea when the site will be fixed?

cheers

mark

Mark check again, the PDFs should not be locked. I can freely copy text and images from the PDFs that Chris forwarded via email. You may have to open in Reader rather than Acrobat, although it does say in the PDFs document security that opening in Acrobat is allowed. I am using reader though so can't test.

Munter the dates are up on the new website.

I'm gutted that I'll be missing this years Nats. My plan was to take it more seriously this year. That really means not staying out boozing with J2theK until 2am on race day!

Podiums are for short people.

Okay folks, next event is the 12 hour enduro in Wellington Saturday 16th August.

Contact Paul Belchambers for entries. Paul@planetdesign.co.nz

I gather Auckland have a team together. Wongy has already stuck up his hand of course for "Napier" - but is that a Napier team or Palmerston North type Napier? :)

Meanwhile, who would be interested in a team if I put up an entry fee?

This coming weekend, 22nd,23rd & 24th August, the Brightwater Raceway will be holding the NSR Classic Challenge. Fully supported by NSR distributor, Tony Cook, 30 entrants will battle it out for line honours. The $65 entry fee included an NSR classic car(bargain) which may have modifications relating to truing and gluing of rear tyres, gluing of motor and rear axle bearings. Lead weights are also allowed.

It will be interesting to see which of the 4 models(P68, 917, GT40 & GT40mkII) of NSR Classic Cars will reign supreme.

Local hotshot Kerry Martin will be hard to beat but racers from Blenheim, Christchurch and even the West Coast will no doubt have something to say about the outcome.

I will publish full qualifying and race report with photos next week.

A great weekends racing was had by the 28 entrants in the NSR Classic Challenge.

Qualifying took place at 7pm on Friday night and the pressure was on to try and get in the top sections where the racing was sure to be fast and furious.

Blenheim's Neil Bidwell took out the top spot with a time of 7.15 driving a 917, closely followed by Mark Millings from Westport with his GT40MKIV, 1st local was Kerry Martin's P68 with a time of 7.23 & making up the top 4 was another Blenheim dark horse and son of top qualifier, Andrew Bidwell on 7.31. Andrew was also leading Junior Qualifier.

Blue Skies greeted the drivers on Saturday morning, but no one cared for a bit of sunbathing as the days racing was all that mattered.

DSC00578_zps8a96eeee.jpg

The format for the morning session was 7 heats of 3 minutes in each of the four lanes with the groups run from slowest 4 qualifiers finishing with the fastest 4 in the 7th heat.

This would be replicated in the afternoon and the winner being the driver who completes the most laps in the 24 minutes available.

The drivers in the first few heats battled well but many suffered from nerves and deslots on the challenging Brightwater circuit. Notables were Daniel Rustbatch in group 5 who managed 87.96 laps whilst being hassled all the time by Clive Hall on 87.8.

The race pace picked up dramatically in group 2 with local veterans Split Heath and Tony Cook, Blenheim's Nigel Boyce and local Junior Adam Healey providing some consistant lap times and close racing. Split finishing the best with 93.91 laps.

Did I mention close racing? The top 4 qualifiers put on a display of "had to be seen" racing, in each of the 4 x 3 minutes heats they finished on the same lap. Blenheim Junior Andrew Bidwell finishing top with 95.59 laps, Westport's Mark Millings next on 94.96, Neil Bidwell on 94.73 & Kerry Martin on 94.17.

After a great lunch break the afternoon session got underway using the same heat format as the morning. All drivers in the lower heats upped their game and produced some thrilling battles.

Again it was the Group 1 race that provided the days top racing with Andrew again taking line honours with an astonishing 96.26 laps ahead of his dad on 95.88 with Mark 3rd on 95 & Kerry with 94.7.

2014 NSR Classic Challenge.

A big thank you to our host and NZ NSR distributor Tony Cook. The event was well run and will be even bigger next year.

Race director, Sue Cook and results co ordinator, Donald Hornal (both assisted at times by Alan Simpson) did an outstanding job over the weekend, and your efforts were much appreciated by all drivers.

I must mention the cars themselves. Not one breakdown, including 2 cars than cleared the Armco barriers and hit the concrete floor only to return to the track unhurt. $NZD65 entry fee and you received a car with a value of $NZD125, brilliant.
