Hey all. With another successful OZ Rally completed, was wondering what everyones thoughts are re: the 2012 series are? We have run the older classes for 2 years and they have been great. Do we stick with this format or change to another class? WRC? JWRC?

I cant wait to get back into this as I have really enjoyed my experience both this year and last.

I know it may be early but might get the ball rolling?

:lol: I've been looking over rally cars that are on special here there and everywhere wondering what would be acceptable for the next season's proxy. :) Chances are the same thing has been going through Miveson's mind as well.

Whatever you lads choose, count me in. I'd like to give it another try, if allowed, before I admit defeat.

I would love some WRC cars - but that's my opinion.

Gagging for another go.... And to get cracking on putting up a better effort.

For me, two years with Classics in the SCX and the Oz Rally, I wouldn't mind a change to the WRC. Especially after I visit them in Coffs Harbour this year. :)

I am starting to getting Rally Proxy withdrawal symptoms. Need a new fix. As the proxy series traditionally starts in November, thought I might bump the discussion for the Ausrally Proxy 2012. Any more thoughts as to what class (if we change at all?) we might be running etc?

Yeah I know Gazza, my ears start steaming!

On a serious note though, what are yours and everyone elses thoughts on the way the SCX CRP is run? Would it be an option to have one class with bog standard cars and another where any changes are allowed? It seems that in the SCX CRP that there doesnt seem to be a huge difference in results between cars that have been modified and cars that have just had weight added and tyres trued. This will keep costs down for people building cars.

Your thoughts?

I would love to hear your opinion Phil and Lenny Broke as the previous directors of the Ausrally Proxy over the past 2 seasons.

From observation only, doesn't multiple classes just make life harder for the hosts? It already seems like a huge job for them as it is.

I am not sure. Have to ask Gazza, TeamRed and OTFS. I have helped Mel at the SCX CRP last year and it was no big problem. Just run all the cars in the order they are coming and then in then spreadsheet adjust each car for the class they are in. This may not be a popular idea but just a suggestion.

Even though the class 3 cars were allowed more modifications i.e alloy wheels, different motors etc they were all still restricted to SCX products only, and looking at all the results the main difference has been the choice of SCX tyres used.
Having said that i realy think there should be only one class, and when choosing that class we need to look at what tracks it will be run on as there is only a handful of purpose built rally tracks around and the rest are road tracks with more than 6 corners, i know that rally's are run on roads and are some of the quickest times during the events, but you ask anyones first thoughts about a rally and they'll tell you about cars sliding on gravel or dirt and dust and crap every where , and they'll also say about how those little 4wd sucker flew.
I know not every one has area, space or time to build a purpose built rally track but those that are built should try and build them as tight and twisty track as possible whilst still having them flow with a variety of corners, dips and or jumps to test each car

Some of the most successful incarnations of current Group A cars are:

WRC class cars where introduced in 1997 following a FIA decision. Experience has proven that to win the WRC title a car has to be full time 4WD and, to a lesser extend, use a 2lt turbocharged engine. Not all manufacturers have (or are willing to have) such models in their line up. Additionally mass producing such cars, as "homologation specials", is a risky financial adventure. This class of cars was thus introduced to allow any manufacturer to take part in the WRC with equal chances to success. The WRC class cars have to be produced to very limited numbers in order to get the required FIA homologation. Production numbers can be kept below 50 units

On the track side of things, there is a hill climb loop growing here, but I'm not convinced it'll be in a fit state to run by November. With only His Lordship and I to run it, I'd be more than a little nervous about taking care of everyone's prescious toys. Plus not really experienced enough to do so successfully.

Class I don't much care.

- same as this year- pre 1980
- group A
- group B
- WRC/JWRC
or would you combine group A/B?

I've just turned Gay and taken delivery of a FORDPosted Image Sucof (sorry the other way around, a Focus) so I'm ready. Might do a Gazza and put some Chevy stuff under it :lol:

For me the current WRC plus do not mind another class ???. As Yngwie said no hassle to run its just the total cars in the event that can hurt each host. More than 35 is difficult IMO

I'd like to give this a go this year
The 2lkit cars & S1600 cars have not been mentioned Loeb took out Monte Carlo (I think ) in the lesser class car (2wd NA 2l)beating the the big boys of the WRC in the 90's I think someone else did it or came close too
There are quite a few slots available to fit this category too Ninco Clios, Saxo's etc
I too have a small track taking shape that fits the bill but like Ember would be a little daunted by the task of running everyones cars through my 1st attempt at a track.
Personally I like Group B cars.

I think I would prefer the WRC and JWRC cars as well. I like the Group A/B cars as well but we did them in the 09/10 series.

With the SCX Proxy I think the SCX tyres level the field quite a bit. In saying that I dont mind those tyres.
