Oz Rally 2012

Hi all.

 

I am an aspiring OZ Rally entrant. Note all the bits about different periods/classes. Seems however that availability of suitable models must also come into equation.

 

I have seen quite a few rally cars for sale but it appears some on lists provided may not be available or are no longer so. We do not all have a deep box with every conceivable model in it.

 

As a rally firsty I would like to be able to chose one car I could use and then go from there. Seems existing class suits this bill fairly well although at this stage it does not really matter to me. The variety of different cars in this years rally however was really great.

 

Re the motor it needs to be one that is readily available. I note in USA you can buy NC8 for about $18 but not sure if that includes adapter. Some conversions you may not need that anyway. As another thought what about limiting to standard motor as suppliedwith car as surely in real life it is not open slather like some slotties would like. If the odd one comes out with unsuitable/ineligible motor ban that car or perhaps stipulate alternative if you want to use.

 

Just a few ideas from a potential rooky.

I have no idea what they come out with but certainly did not want to discourage range of cars used. That was one of the good points of this years rally. I did suggest that a potential dominant car should have its wings clipped but that may not be practical. Other option is perhaps to have standard motor except that could add extra cost as that appears to be concern.

Hi Guys

Sorry I'm late to the part on this, been a bit busy elsewhere recently. In regard to this year's series I'm not to fussed what we run, though for the sake of continuity I would have liked to see the group B era cars run, just so I could run a Revell Opel Ascona 400, I like a challenge :lol: WRC is fine with me though. As to the regs for this year, leave them as they are I reckon with some adjustments to suit the era that is finally decided on, It don't appear to be broke so no fix required. In regard to motors I don't like the idea of spec motors, the variety is what makes it interesting for me. There seems to be some opinion that you need a ninco NC 2 motor to do well and granted I used one in my car last year. the winning car this year ran an SCX RX42B. Other motors have powered round winners as well on previous years too. People just need to do some homework and maybe try an alternative.

Whoever takes on the series I strongly advise them to run it as a benevolent dictatorship and not leave it to public discussion. Make your own decisions and stick to them. If you want alternative views form yourself an advisory group of 3 or 4 others whose opinions you trust and respect and refer things to them if you feel the need to. previous experiences in proxy racing have taught me that running series by popular opinion usually end in a sh1t fight.

OK then can we please have a decision so we can get on with it. Hopefully including a list of eligible cars.

 

I have had another look through the rules. They look very clear except for actual models/era allowed. This includes maximum body width of 58mm and max track over outside edge of tyres of 55mm.

 

From my perspective time is getting very short at least when you have never owned or driven a rally car. Last year entries had to be in by October which is not that far away.

We need a "Martyr" to run the series first Chas.

That person needs time, patience and have thick skin plus as Lenny B says be a dictator (for the event :P )

 

I don't know (or can't remember :blink:) how this has been done in the past but how about if there is more than one name put forward we all vote via a PM. I'm happy to take the votes unless one of the previous coordinators are willing to do that.

 

I'm also assuming that Phil (who took over the reigns well from LB) might need a break but that's up to you Phil and also LB similar - or was that just for one year fellas? Martyn the originator has been poking his nose in here and there as well. That's why I thought nominations might be best - past coordinator's and virgins

 

Anyone willing to put their hand up.

 

As with any event we all like even greater (not necessarily bigger) than before.

I will put my hand up if no one else does and that is not saying "Pick me, Pick me" as it is a thankless job but I also want to see the event continue and move forward.

I have had emails from guys over seas and they see us as the rally capital of the world so we are on show fellas (and Embs).

Although the Poms are trying to take our title. <_<

The body and track widths will change to suit the WRC cars.

IMO , any car that ran in the WRC from 1997 until 2010, non podded should be eligible.

Any motor, any rubber or eurethane tyres, NO silicones.

I did notice that some of the SCX and Ortman tyres did not seem to work well on some tracks.

While SCX and Ninco have dominated there are some good bargains in Autoart cars around at present.

Last year we had a committee to sort the rules, probably not needed this year as only very minor changes needed. I am happy to help organize again this year, it helps fill in time between lunches and resin casting.

 

Mel does a great job with his round with some nice pics and reporting.

Good onya Phil and Mel for offering to "keep the wheel spinning". Both are experienced and well informed candidates.

 

Mel, I assume your offer to run the series means that work and/or holiday jaunts interstate and overseas won't impede on the running of the series? ( LB had to step down last series because his commitments at the time prevented him from organising and running the series effectively )

 

I would be happy for either "candiadate" to run the show. I am sure they will also call on a couple of other experienced guys for opinions, as has been done in the past.

Your just jealous - took me 63 years to do that.

 

Was a business trip. I had to check out the suitability of tracks in the US (and Alaska) and Canada for future proxy's and test some tyres on different surfaces and temperatures. :P

 

If I did have to go away I would just tell every one Kane's in charge until I get back :lol: :lol: :lol:

Hi guys ,I know the tracks to be put for hosting haven't been spoken about yet ,but I'd like to put my track up for the next Oz Rally Proxy. Power 11volts ,Timing is Race Co-ordinator. For those who haven't seen my lay out.

Chas, this list is only the works teams, there are other cars that ran in the WRC, the Toyota Celica GT4 ran in WRC until 1999 in the hands of privateers, including two top 3 finishes in 1997. BRK

OK BRK but at least it is a start.

 

Must see if I can compile a list of other contenders. Hopefully on the internet somewhere.

 

I know I am being a little impatient as Phil earlier did say he would not look at until July but that is fairly close.

In the past it has been left up to the entrant if they ran ANY car as 2 or 4 wheel drive.

The SCX cars make proxy rally cars when fitted with NC2 and 2wd!

Hey phil, I would think that if you run an SCX rally car, you could put a rear wheel drive motor in

and hook it up with a belt drive. I have had a real great experience with the nc-5 motors

Thanks YNGWIE. I had forgotten you had supplied that previously @ post 23. May be wrong but not sure list is complete but perhaps they are the only ones that are available as slot cars.

 

Now that July is upon us would be good to see entry conditions confirmed as I want to purchase a car ASAP. There certainly appears to be a great range available so which one?????????????????

What size is your basic track "Teamredracing"? I was thinking of making a tuning track on the back of hollow core door.

Hi Chas ,my main track is on a 1.2 x 3.00 mtrs board with a track length of 15.2 mtrs.1st ext on gives me a total of 23.8mtrs and with all exts on is 39.3 mtrs all up. Just watch when making a track on a door as it has a honey comb inside it and may catch on the router bit. But in saying that you could make a good track and it would be easier to put up when not in use.

Ta for the useful suggestions Phil and Craig. Not sure I will get around to it but I have a door (2m x 0.8m) which I have converted to table for my hobby sail repair/boat cover business. I could build a flat track into it but still retain usefulness for original purpose. In theory anyway.

 

Sorry Phil to harp on again but when can I expect decision on rules for 2012 rally event. Also have you thought anymore about Mr Slotcar. I am more concentrating on Slot-it Mazda and F22 tyre testing at present with Mr Slotcar on hold as I need to paint and properly assemble.
