SlotsNZ
I scored some extra pics of the McLaren from Ernie yesterday, thought folks might like to see some complete cars from the Contender series They're just tidying up some final changes to the chassis and the bodies are about ready. lenny broke
I am still waiting for the Nissan 89 c announced in 2013 ! I thought Ernie cancelled that one when Slot It announced they were doing it. kalbfellp
He coud have, the time between announcing cars and actual delivery seems to be getting longer from several manufacturers. I wonder if they make these announcements to try and gauge how much interest there is? lenny broke
He was hurt by releasing the same model as another brand and didn't want a repeat with the Nissan I would think. Ember
But don't Slot.it do the McLaren too? I suppose at least this time there is a decent gap between the releases. The 787Bs were almost released at the same time. Quote Computers. They'll never catch on. SlotsNZ
Yes, I think Lenny is right about the Nissan. As a small, newer maker, Ernie also has a longer lead time to deal with, as he has to shake down issues through production that a more established maker will have de-kinked through past experience. But the McLaren is inching closer, I get regular updates, he promises it will be worth the wait, and worthwhile to do these last few small changes. Wobble
I'm liking the looks of this McLaren and although I have the Slot.It plain orange version I think this looks gooder.
SlotsNZ
The wait is nearly over. MR Slotcars have just made available some pictures taken of the production which has been going on over the last 3 weeks. Now ready for packaging to be wrapped around and boxed for shipment. Shipping to distributors is expected to take place in about 10 days, with stock available in Europe and down-under for 1st June. Syd
Hi SlotNZ, they look fantastic! Is there an Australian distributor? I looked on Armchair but they haven't got them listed although they have another model (inline)! Are they part compatible with other brands? What tune up parts are available? Looking forward getting a few of these for a club class! SlotsNZ
Heya Syd I don't think Armchair are carrying. Tune - plenty of gear ratios obviously ..... The independent front stub axles to create the independent front and camber capability aren't ready yet, so I gather they are 2 or 3 months down the track. The ff-050 sidewinder pod is available, I think that came out during the Mazda models anyway. The only glitch is that Scaleauto are out of stock of the 38K motor at the moment, and that became my Nationals setup - I like sidewinders and they suit our small tracks in NZ I set two cars up - a drone as stock, and then played around with the standard angle-winder pod and boxer motor, and 2 sidewinder pods using the 2 different RPM ff-050 motor in 30k and 38k to build my car for the Nationals a couple of weeks back. So some comments below from my limited experience - I only got them a few days before the Nats, so not a lot of development time. Axles - MR Slotcars use true 2.38mm axles, so fit interchangeably for axles with Slot.it and Slotting Plus. – and I guess ScaleAuto and Avant slot, but I don’t use any Scaleauto spares, so not so familiar to be able to make statement. NSR are different to everyone else at 2.37 and so not interchangeable. I actually converted one of the cars I got to 16mm Slotting Plus wheels and N18 Slot.it tyres for a really low 0.7mm ground clearance for our Nationals on Chris' super-gloss blue track. I think on some plastic track it would scrape with such small wheels. I used mixed parts between Slotting Plus, - one rear axle and 4 “America” mag wheels front and rear, and MR Slotcars – one front axle and the side-winder spur and pinion. All those bits worked fine together. Wheels - well the usuals obviously fit the axles 2.38mm The standard wheel size front and rear on the McLaren is 17 x 8mm – same as the largest diameter, narrower version Slot.it. Centre rib height and width is almost identical. I have Slot.it N22s on one of my 2 pre-production samples MR Slotcar Mcarens with the 17 inch standard wheels. You would obviously swap out stock tyres which are typical “generic factory formulation” for want of a better terminology, - to whatever works on your track. Fronts are a-shore 60. Quite hard. I trued them down to as low as I could go - about 18.35mm on a 17mm hub. Gears are stated as 0.5 modulus – which is somehow different to “48 pitch” that Slot.it use. Slotting Plus also use this 0.5 modulus, but we seem to be able to use their gears interchangeably with Slot.it ones – I’ve sold a lot of the screw removable 6.5 and 7.5mm Slotting Plus pinions for people to put on cars with normal 48 pitch spur gears. So I expect the MR Slotcars will be just the same, but sorry, haven’t had time to experiment very deeply. (actually since been doing some research, and have an article coming up on modulus versus pitch) Sidewinder spur gear diameters. MR Slotcars have settled on a smaller distance for the alternate sidewinder pod space between motor shaft and axle shaft. So if you want to swap out the angle-winder stock setup for the ff-050 sidewinder setup, I recommend sticking to all MR Slotcars parts – but that is probably a bit further down the track for you, not so important up front. Angle- winder spurs – are in similar range, so mesh set with spacers. Some comparison below. Slot.it “16mm” series spur gears diameters vary a little – the 16 is nominal, as Slot.it appear to have kept fixed pitch on the angle-winder spurs, and varied the diameter. On my calipers (which are tending to be slightly low - worn out) GA1626pl – 15.6mm GA1627pl – 15.65mm GA1628pl - 15.73mm GA1629pl – 15.82mm GA1630pl – 15.9 mm The Mr Slotcars “15.5mm" spur gears measured MM6627 – 15.4mm MM6628 – 15.4mm As you always move the pinion and spur along the intersecting shafts to get the right mesh, these should be within the normal realms of adjustment. – But sorry, haven’t had chance to try a mix and match. Fit/Finish – I only have the pre-production samples Ernie kindly sent me of course, but the finish was really good. Some pics taken by Italia Slot of the pre-production samples he sent to Europe. http://www.italiaslo...rticle&sid=4031 Quote Recovering Lapsed Slot Addict * Custodian of many used screws (mostly loose ) * Total kidder * Companion of other delusional slot addicts
