OzRally Proxy Series 2010/11 - Round One

Recommended Posts

Mine has standard drivers heads, maybe that's where i went wrong. By the by Phil, that vac form interior you did for me looks the part in my bimmer, and at the rate it goes you'll get a really good look at it!

The Stig arrived yesterday afternoon and we were able to run Stage One on this event. This stage was run anti clock wise, that is opposite to the prologue.

So times are not comparable. Haystack will be driving the next stage, clockwise.

Well , I never thought I'd be that far up there. I must have learnt something from you folks who put up all the useful info on this forum ... :)

You must have had an off Embs' . You had a good fastest lap time.

Well mine is not as bad as i thought, not bad for my first ever proxy race, just down on power with that NC-1 I think. Or should of worked on ground clearance. Car left standard in that department ,way to high.

Thanks for running the first stage Phil. Looks like that change of tyres from practice to stage 1 was not a good outcome for my Escort!

Well done to the top guys.

Congratulations to the front runners. It seems all I have succeeded in doing is making the same car even worse than last year. I took the feedback about the car on board and tried to make the thing handle better and am utterly confused as to why what seemed to be an improvement on my home track is just so damn slow.

The Munter machine has turned into a beast.! Yoo really have turned that little car around Munter . Good job.!

There's not much in it, 3/10ths in the fastest lap times for 6 or 7 of us. I hope that plafit pinion of mine hangs in there.

A couple of notes:

Ember Crown gear may be slipping on axle up hill, seems to be slow on the uphill section.

Jazzbell handles well hard to push as hitting scenery.

Anthony handles well by the look just a little slow.

Tazracer Glue your wheels on! One wheel loose! Fixed.

BRK gave the boys the wrong car, a bit over powered for this track.

Mexico had a guide pick up problem, fixed.

Obsidith surprise package!

Stig overdrove his own car! again this year!

Another proxy, another mid pack finish. Just hope to not get the comment 'had trouble with one corner' this year.

Is that the first time a Scaley has won a stage of an Ozrally proxy? Who'd av thunk it? Phil obviously. :)

I think cagey old Phil has swapped out the over powered 308 V8 for the Opel 1.9L motor to make it more forgiving in rally form.

Rather surprised to come home from Bendigo to read this. Is tightening the grubscrew on the crown allowed under 'maintenance rules', Phil?

Position is more where I expected to be, but I'm still gobsmacked at the decent time on the best lap.

A liitle maintenace completed on the cars before yesterdays stage two.

Ember grub screw tightened,no improvement,so it could not have been slipping, just lacking grunt!

Tazracer tyres sanded to remove the surface, much better, but 40 minutes sitting before actual run and no grip again! NFI with these tyres! Motor is slow and smelly!

Stage two was run in the same direction BUT for 15 laps instead of stage 1 12 laps. Different result from Haystacks driving style and less offs with some cars.

Stage two results

Haystack has a lot of notes from this stage of his impressions of the cars and will follow up ASAP>

wohoo 3rd on stage 2 :aussie:

The final stage will be very exciting with at least 4 cars very close to the overall 3rd spot.

When can we expect the stage 3 results?

Looking forward to see the driver notes :)

Please answer this. As people who host the rounds for rally why is their a different driver to drive on the host track as well? My opinion this can't be a true indication on the cars at all. Do all the hosts run their rounds like this.?

I really should've replaced that motor the first time it overheated I suppose, I just didn't have anything to drop in it. I had a niggling doubt that it might not last the distance, but I didn't think it'd be looking to copout so soon.

Running here (not that its a great indication cos its plastic) the motor was slow when cold but warmed up well and tyres were great. Seems you're getting the opposite.

Miveson, I think I might pre-order that new toy of yours today. :aussie:

Shane: By running the event with different drivers on each stage IMO you get a better indication of car performance. Each driver has different style and IF one driver cannot come to grips with a car its results suffers, where as another driver can often drive around the problem.

Proxy's (here is Australia) on multi lane tracks are run with the drivers staying on one lane and the cars changing this gives a good indication of the cars performance when driven by several drivers.

But I know that many will disagree, many of the US/Canadian proxy's are run differently. Some allow the driver to move with the car, other change drivers during the event.

But I have seen several instances where one driver just could not get the best out of a car,yet another driver could.

Lets here what others proxy hosts think.

Interesting discussion, but I will add that my round will be run by me only. Mel has built the track so he knows it better than anyone but I have had it now for a year. I think that if our stated intention is to get the best out of each CAR, that this only occurs when the track owner (who knows the track best) drives the cars. Remembering that once the stage is over and they head to a new track, there will obviously be a different driver but they will be driving THEIR track and not having to learn a new one.

I sincerely hope this does not come across as a whinge because it is not meant to be but just looking at some of the results from stage 1 to stage 2 indicates a large variation in some cars.

Just as an example, Lenny Brokes cars best lap time was almost a second quicker when Haystack was driving and OTFS car has gone from 3rd to 20th! I know these are isolated examples and you cant read too much into it but it is amazing that the same cars have improved / deteriorated on the same track in the same direction under different drivers. This is what may confuse people who have entered cars.

As for my car, well it finished where it deserved to!

Regards

Hmm will be looking forward to the drivers notes on my car as it dropped a bit on this stage.

As for different drivers I did this for last years round that I hosted, I do like how you get more drivers notes on each car but I do feel if these drivers need to have done alot of laps of the track. Having said this this year I do plan to do the driving of my round

Wrapped to see some improvement in my car. My goal is to better my 12th at the end of the season, so happy days. It took me a while to find my car in the field for stage two as i was looking at the wrong end!

Oh well, my reign of fastest BMW lasted 1 stage, back to regular viewing :aussie: But it can still go either way, 6 seconds isn't much. 17th in both stages so far, I wonder what the next stage will bring???
