Slot Car Collection

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I've finally retrieved some of the boxes out of storage and had time to catalogue & photograph parts of my collection , as I said I would quite some time back and post a few pic's here on Auslots. So far I've managed to catalogue the models produced post 2000. I have only included pictures of the brands which are the dominate makes in the collection.

I've been collecting since 2003 and only got serious about it five years ago. I wont know exactly the number in the collection until all the cataloguing is complete. I estimate around the 1500 plus mark. There is 851 mint in box of post 2000 manufactored models which we just recorded.

The main proportion of the collection and my priority is in the earlier models (pre 2000),sets and accessories from Scalextric and other manufactors of Fords GT40.These items will be next for cataloguing.Due to the complexity of the ealier models with different varients and colours of the same part numbers, I went for the easier approach first, by doing the post 2000 cars.

Each car has been photographed individually and limited edition numbers photographed and recorded (If applicable) . This took quite some time just for the cars in these pic's and to come up with a program for listing the cars and details.

Hope you enjoy these pictures, their in no particular order of brand and I have tried to limit the number of photo's posted due to size an amount of photo's.

I'll show what I've done with storing the cars in label boxes in my next reply to this thread, and I would be interested in how other collectors store their cars?

If you would like to see the rest of the collection I will continue to post pic's.

What hours are you open at your store !!!!!!

I thought I had a bad case of OCD but mine stops at putting the Stellas in a straight line in the fridge.

Brilliant collection by the way. More stock than Pendles.

Of course we'd like to see the rest.

Ashes to ashes funk to funky we all know Chris is a junkie.

Just AMAZING Clevo!!!!!

During the last year my collection had started to worry me at 150+. Inevitably you start to just collect them because after all...how many slots can you race???

But now I can see I have nothing to worry about at all!! ;) ;) :)

Thanks for sharing mate, VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!

Can't wait to see the next photos.

Clevo,

I'm going to make this topic my homepage. I'll echo the comments from others and advise - "Holy Crap Batman...." that is one serious collection and shows that my collection is in the normal range - I'll be showing my wife these pictures and she'll never again roll her eyes.

Great stuff - totally awesome..... looking forward to the other photos of the collection.....

I store my cars in Aussie Post B4 boxes, each box hold 8 cars and everything seems to fit in nicely.

Cheers for the comments, I had a chuckle with a few of them :D .

I'll try to answer a few of the questions. I haven't worked out yet, how to cut and paste quotes from each post  .

I generally shop around for bargains regarding the multiple cars, except for the V8's, I get four of each. With some limited editions I place orders with a few different shops around the world just to make sure I get one. As I have missed out on a couple of cars due to them not coming to Australia previously. Sometimes I end up with one, and other times multiples turn up of the same car. Also I have bought other slotcar collections in the past which add to the multiples I already had. One day I hope to trade the doubles for other earlier Scalextric cars which I don't have. My goal is to get a complete Scalextric collection from day dot to the 80's.

Garage sales and markets are a favourite of mine for coming across the older stuff. My biggest outlay when starting to go to these was for flowers and chocolates for the missus. She never lets me forget how we turned up to the inlaws anniversary late due to one of my excursion's after seeing a garage sale sign :nice: . Now she points them out to me.

I was planning on doing a web page once all items were photographed. I thought this would be an easier method of adjusting the collection and for insurance purposes. With the photo's I've taken so far, I've also taken pic's of one less of each multiple car till there was only one. This way if i did trade one I could just replace the pic with one less and if I acquired more of the same car I could add an extra picture to adjust total.

I've posted a couple pic's on how the cars are stored away. I use the actual boxes Scalextric cars are shipped with (the shops generally throw these out). The boxes hold 24 cars, with four sleeves in the box holding six cars each. On the outside, the box is numbered and has an A4 paper marked out with four sleeves, each with the car in that position. The computer program in which I have for recording the cars details, also has its location, eg: Box number and sleeve number, for ease of locating.

It might be a few weeks before further photo's are posted of the collection, as there are quite a few pre 2000 models to get through . The car's which aren't in their original case's are individually wrapped and sealed (incomplete cars aren't ) . Here's a pic of just one of the Scalextric sleeve's with the dividers out for these cars. Generally there's 20-40 cars in each sleeve, depending on the models housed.

Thanks for the comments and more pictures will be coming shortly

Clevo,

Is that some mini's that I can see in that box. I've been eagerly awaiting someone to post up a collection of mini's. I've always liked them, particularly as in my youth I was a passenger in quite a few mini's, most had rust on the chassis that was hidden with carpet, you could lift it up and see the road on the bottom. Fortunately the car never had a crash so no dramas....

There's nine of them in that picture. I had a scalextric 300 set which had a couple mini's when I was a youngster, and they were always great fun racing them.

Well thats insane. Do you have a track & ever race any? Do you buy the multipes with selling in mind later on? Do you buy the multiples in one hit or do you shop around for bargains. Im totally in awe with that lot, I really am.

wow!

Hi Mopar

No track setup as of yet, but I do have plans for two tracks to be built. One will be out of classic track and the other in sport with the new six car Digi power base.

The classic track will be set up as a diarama with all the vintage Scalextric accessories form the 60's & 70's and be in a large configuration of "Brands Hatch" or "Catalunya". Part of my collection is Scalextric buildings and specialist tracks which will all be used for this circuit. It will be a four laner

The Digi version will be the one mates use when we have a few beers and pizza. I have everything for the classic track except for one thing, The room..........

None of the MIB cars in the photo's get used. I do have about 30 cars which do though use, these were my old race cars from when I raced at Tbirds.

I just showed my wife who said "What in gods name is that" when viewing the pictures of boxes... I then proceeded to scan through the photos at which point she said "you people are just sick....." - she was obviously not referring to me <_<

Still I doubt anything will change here with a few new deliveries scheduled to arrive this week ...

Also in the picture with the Camaro's, I can't see the #40 Vince Gimondo (probably in another box along with the Sunoco's).

Clevo,

I was worried about my collection getting out of hand... just counted them and only have 68... only 1,432 to go.

Now my only worry is affording the SSD digital chips for them all.

Unbloodybelievable.... keep posting pics its a very enjoyable thread (not game to show my wife these pics she'll only get worried)

Cheers

That is a simply truly awesome collection you have there Clevo; and a large number of very desirable ones amongst them too! Like a lot of guys on here have said, you are a god-send also ... now all I need to do is show the other half the pics of your collection and my slot and diecast collection will be totally safe from comment.

I seriously hope you have good insurance cover!

Cheers,

Jon

  • 1 year later...

Hi all

Thought I would just update where Im at with cataloguing the collection. The collection has really grown since posting the first pic's, (some would say its out of hand) with both the new cars & early secondhand Scaley ones. Im hoping that I should have it all completed in a few months. All the individual photo's will be placed into an album on Photobucket with sub albums for each of the brands. Im currently going through all the pic's and sorting them out into their designated categories. THe slot.it collection has been completed and a link has been included for your viewing (178 cars with 7 more in transit). http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj275/xccleveland/Slotcar%20Collection/Slot%20it%20Current%20Collection/?start=all

I have also included a pic of the Poineer collection. If you compare it to the first photo in this thread, you can understand how its gotten out of hand.

Stay tuned, more pic's soon to follow.

Clevo
