Ontheflipside
Finally after the SCX CRP cars started their journey arriving in Norway, they found their way to events in Denmark, Ireland Great Britain, USA, Germany, France and now via slow boat from Canada they are about to show their colours in Australia. We had a bit of trouble getting to the track today with local protesters causing some traffic problems Things are on the move and the pit chicks are are keeping the lads happy Weather is starting to get a bit colder in Sydney at present so lap records will be difficult to break. While the drivers are getting a briefing and checking pace notes . . . Check out this video of the New Mount Saltpanorama Track and have a look at some other pics and info about the track. Back soon . . . . Ontheflipside
Stage 1Results The Mount Saltpanorama Rally X track is 51 meters (almost 170') in length. An excellent lap is around 30 seconds. Cars in the paddock From some random testing last night I believe a lot of cars will struggle to maintain full stability (including one of mine). With this type of track no two laps are the same, so when you think you are in a good rhythm it can bite you hard. Keeps three marshals and a driver on their toes Craig (Teamredracer) Y.T. driving (and Craig) ABS one of the Marshals and he is the time keeper We have completed the 1st “Special†stage which was run in two sections. 1st section – two laps of the Rally X circuit (30 – 40 second laps) and the 2nd section a sprint to the finish using eight laps of the Mount Panorama Race track (6 - 7 second laps) This gave an indication of the cars performance on a race track verses the Rally X track. (Split times are shown) Voltage was at 11 volts using a Slot-it Hand controller dialed in to best suit each car. The same driver drove all cars on this stage. We took over an hour to repair and adjust several cars prior to racing. Most work done by Craig (Teamredracer). Will make some comments about that later Has been a big day so thanks to ABS, Teamredracer and Mrs Flipper we are able bring you stage 1 results Congratulations to the Wolfman (X2) and Speedy "T" for their early results. But remember the fat lady hasn't sung yet. John Schoen
Great to see that the show is running. Fastest laptime in the sprint section and four offs for my car, that looks like it is living up to its handgrenade reputation again. Congratulations to the stage winners in each class, I am looking forward to the rest of this rally. /edit Playing with my spreadsheet again, here are the results sorted by class. Yes a bit of a hand full John but the big run is yet to come and we are getting a handle on your car. Been busy today, but had time to check and tidy up last nights stage 2 scores . . . Some cars (tyres) struggled on the late night colder track. Have to go to a family function so may be some pics later tonight Stage three and final tomorrow. Ontheflipside
Event 11 of the SCX Classic Rally Proxy has be run and won. Before the last stage I had to do a lap of honor with my car that won its class at the Wolverhampton club round in GB back in August last year. The guys presented me (by mail) with a very professionally detailed Renault. Thanks heaps fellas. Pic of both cars parading around the track. OK Results of Stage 3 (and final stage). This stage driven by Teamredracer and I must say he gave it his all. The winning car clocked up the best lap time of the series - under 30seconds. Very close to the track record with a purpose built car and very suitable tyres and . . . . much warmer weather Congratulations to John for a very fast car and also to Craig (Teamred) for being able to bring home a car in an excellent time that was more suited to a race track circuit . On the quiet - Craig was hoping to bring his own car home in 1st position. Just wasn't to be. Progressive and final points for the round I'm not sure what to say here being the host and winning outright and 1st in Class 1 & 2. I sort of feel embarrassed but still willing to take the points. Craig rolled the #7 car on the last corner so I was lucky to get the low time. Congratulations to all the place getters - it was a pleasure and heaps of fun to drive your cars. Outright winners (for bragging rights) 1st Car # 7 Onthe flipside 2nd Car # 30 Malatwolves 3rd Car # 32 Antony Class 1 Winners 1st Car #10 Ontheflipside 2nd Car #15 Malatwolves 3rd Car # 79 Chuck Class 2 Winners 1st Car #7 Ontheflipside 2nd Car #22 Reek455 3rd Car#20 Malatwolves Class 3 Winners 1st Car #30 Malatwolves 2nd Car #32 Antony 3rd Car #99 Teamredracing I'm off to bed now and the on an early interstate big bird. Antony
A big thank you to Mel and everyone involved, good to see the event up and running again after being lost at sea for so long. Congratulations to the top three, Mel, malatwolves and, err, me and of course the place getters in each class. Good to see that my S4 could be competitive in Australia which surprises me as I thought it might be overpowered for a proper rally track but unfortunately looks like my Escort and Stratos are still all at sea on this type of track. Thanks.
Ontheflipside
According to the SRM many of the top cars were averaging scaled up speeds of over 190km/hr on the RallyX circuit. On this track there seems to be a fine line between speed and a good handling car. I think with adjustable hand controllers the faster cars can be reasonably controlled. What this track doesn't like are cars that are short in length, narrow and too tall with little weight. Often great grip but then "tippy" Example But then again some of the lower lighter faster cars suffered the same way Both Teamredracing and myself made some comments on the cars performance relating to this track Davnic's car was rocking on he front guide with one wheel often off the ground - we had a quick look and we are not sure why Maltawolves car with good balance and wide tyres didn't like the cold track late one evening and lost it on this and similar corners too many times during stage 2 A few of the faster cars took some occasional air with success. Too much and the close right hander caused grief. I'm away from home at present and photo uploads are slow so will post some more pics tomorrow. lenny broke
Hi Mel Just a bit curious, how are the SCX cars going in comparison with the down under cars? Ontheflipside
Hi MelJust a bit curious, how are the SCX cars going in comparison with the down under cars? Alan I did reply to this Alan before the hackers got to this site. But a bit further . . . . Spoke to TRR (Craig) Friday night and he rightly said "the class of whole SCX field was far better" with really only one car that posed any real problems. Both of us agreed that an SCX car would definitely be on the agenda to look at in future proxy's. Ontheflipside
I was away last week - so here are some more uploaded pics. The corner (bottom of "Conrod Straight") which claims many a victim even in the 1:1 racing. Off camber as well. The Chase at Mount Panorama was put in after a few bad and fatal 1:1 crashes to slow cars up from up to 300km/hr. Both at the 1:1 track and this track there is plenty of action for the cameras. Get this corner right and you gain 0.5 -1 sec on each lap. Sometimes the approach is good Some times not The Wolfman was actually very quick through the 3 turns at the Chase. Here he is taking out Stage 1 Had this car not struggled through Stage 2 with the cold track and some intermittent power problem he would have taken out the round win. The pair of these cars Renault 5 Maxi Turbos were very quick in a straight line but we couldn't tame them in the tight or off camber curves - even with the Slot-it controllers. At the top of the mountain, over a hump and slightly off camber corner. Always need to take with respect. Some more pics later . . . Ontheflipside
Had a comment from PSRRFH on the SCX Forum about this pic (posted at the beginning of this topic). Mrs Flipper took it on our way to the WRC up at Kyogle And the protesters........well just shoot them, that's what we do to them up here in the Well Mountains. Ontheflipside
No work today so have some time to upload some more (& final) pics of round 11 One of the country roads near the 1:1 Mount Panorama Circuit during winter The local "greenies" were still about protesting Heaps of animals and many a roo has caused some chaos for the O/s visitors Not that they worry the local drivers Gazza dropped off one of his pets but of course the locals had no worries A couple of wild animals caused Reek (Rico) some concern He had to pull over with exhaustion The Yanks are funny buggers, they bring their own choppers in just for the event I caught Som (Son of Max - our old Rottweiler) about to attack the Cosworth. He seemed to be chewing the back panel and I yelled out "Som leave that car alone - It belongs to my 'ole mate Dave (Davenic)" I was too late He had a couple of goes, seems he objected to the "Blue Oval" sticker Even the local croc in the Salt Pan was about to attack! Som's a good dog - he stopped this car and barked to tell her to get off the track - "no Devonshire teas here girlie" Unbeknown to some she did pull up at one of the Cafe's Som being pretty smart dragged out the chief scrutineer (Oldslot) to see why these "Muscle" cars were here for the rally. "You blokes have the wrong week end - you're on next month" "He's colour blind young Som is" Spotted these two cars and wasn't sure which one belonged to his master. Had his eye on one - smelled like stew When I can get some legal music I'll post a copy of the video's Mrs Flipper took during the actual races. Yngwie
Excellent pics and narrative Mel. Love the croc! Shame about Davenic's car though. You must have train SOM well to only attack the Blue Ovaled Cars!

teamredracing
Holy cow Mel your making it hard for mine and Gazza's stage to live up too. Hope your going to tell these guys that your well in with Warner Bros and they actually edited that . That was well done. Luv the Acker Dacker. By the way I apologise if there was a bit of glare coming off the noggin. Just an update for mine and Gazza's rounds guys . Ive decided that the weekends latley are a little bit full and giving Gazza plenty of time to recuperate that I am taking annual leave on the 10th to the 14th of May . Gazza's health has been improving from the op and he has told me he should be ok by then for the running of both rounds . So hopefully with everything going ok we should be shipping the cars (by air) back to Norway by the end of May.
