Recommended Posts

Thanks for the tips Geno ........I picked up a kangaroo that is close to scale but it's colouring doesn't look quite right so I might give a go at painting it

Gref, congratulations on taking the plunge on what seems like a very big, little job.

OK,

I bought about 100 military style figures the right size at our local Saturday market for $2.00( I think they may be 1:35, but that's close enough for me)

With a bit of imagination, and the Dremel, we have made camermen from bazooka guys, sound techs and broom monitors from mine sweepers, spectators and flag wavers from others, and the list will grow as the beers disappear.

If I knew how to post photos, i would. Nuff to say they are cheap and look the part. Enjoyable to do might rate as well.

Cheers

John

Great work Geno

Love the detail just wish i had as much money to spend on figures as Gref

I did something very similar to Kenny with one of those two dollar packs of rescue workers made a heap of marshalls and a TV crew for a few dollars

Check out pages 10 & 11 on my thread at slotforum

While we are on the topic of figures

How tall are the "Homies" figures

I have a heap of the "Micro Icons" bikers and Souljas and compared to the Scalextric figures and Carrera figures these ones are a little smaller (good for forced perspective)

how to the Homies compare to the Scaley and Carrera ones?

The Homies are generally Shorter than Scaley or Carrerra figures.

Sometimes fatter, skinnier, weirder, uglier -----------------------------------------

Some of our visitors spend ages trying to figure them out. I just try to group them in similar styles. Its not easy, with some of them. I just leave them laying on the track table, and now and then you find one its home.

Very imaginative, the people that created them.

I don't really spend a lot on them, yeah some have cost me a lot, but most I bought in lots on ebay at reasonable prices. the metal figures are getting very very rare now and expensive at that. I bought some cheap plastic figures at go lo a long way back and got them out the other week for "modifications". But to my dismay the plastic won't glue, so they might all go in the bin

pity coz they are perfect height :bday:

Have you tried hot melt glue??

May be crude, but may work.

Hey Gref

Those figures are pretty much the same as the ones i grabbed and you are right the paint wont stick to them directly. To get them to work i soaked them in metho for ten minutes (this removed the sheen on the surface) and then applied a plastic etch primer which i bought from an automotive paint store. Then you can paint them with whatever paint you want once they are dry

Got my figures from a 2 dollar shop in adelaide called "ned's"

Second from the right. All I can see is "Muuuuum. He poked me in the eye"

015-1.jpg

And the bloke in the middle needs to queue up for the 'reading room'

Where did these ones come from?
