Here is an easy way to solve the problem - ask the members.

I don't care if there are links or not. I think we are all mature enough to choose whether we want to buy privately or commercially. I have used e-bay before and have never had a problem.

If the buy/sell section has links to other sites, if you don't want to use them - you don't have to.

Give everyone a choice

I don't think it really matters.

Anyone buying stuff from cyber space should really know the values of what they're wanting to buy, so it's always 'buyer beware'. If you are unsure of values, check with a friend, or someone that is not likely to benefit from the transaction, and make a judgement on what value the thing represents to you.

In any case, we're all part of a network which, hopefully, is trying to help one another, and by posting a link to something that may help the others, could be a positive thing.

We all look at varying things over the internet, and would likely see something that others may not.

I suggest to allow the links initially and see if any problems arise.

Question: Generalise just eBay for the moment to any kind of commercial post. What if slot shop X is having a sale or special deal, can that be posted? And if so, who can post it, a member who knows about it and wants to share the news or the shop itself?

It would be good to hear from any of the dealer members (at least 3 now) on this.

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who don't

Good point. I can't see a problem if people want to alert others of sales, specials etc. As I've already said we are all adults and can decide for ourselves if we want to use certain mediums. We will be cutting out a big section of the slot car community if we do not allow businesses to advertise on this site.

;) I guess if it wasn't for "commercial" sites a lot of us wouldn't be here, but you also run the risk of turning the site into a free for all. I do however believe there should be a private trading section so you don't have wade through posting after posting.

So I guess the trading section should be split into "private" and "commercial", wouldn't that make sense..........?

It is interesting to see how you all think about the buy sell section. I can't speak for Bo but I can say that from my point of view I don't mind posts on specials in commercial stores as we all benefit from this.

Also the more that is sold in australia will mean a larger market and potentially better prices and more chance of seeing cars we want produced. I would like to discuss anything further with Bo before we go down the track of people actually placing ads. That wasn't the reason we started the site. It was more to find more aussie slotters. Things may change however the way the site is growing.

I think a separate section for private "trade and for sale" is a good idea as it keeps the site cleaner and easier to find what you are looking for.

Evening all,

personally being a dealer/distributor I'd like to advertise here and work out some sort of sponsorship deal for the forum. I know how much work my very basic website is and I take my hat off to the guys hosting this forum.

I'd consider dealers (ebay sellers included) popping in unannounced and posting specials etc to be unprofessional and inconsiderate to our hosts.

Nothing wrong with posting a link to a gem found on ebay by members. There's some great finds there.

I'd like to suggest that you support your local dealer/shop as much as possible as like us they're the guys with many thousands of dollars (if not 100's of thousands) committed to the hobby and trying to make an honest living whilst renting/buying/stocking a shop etc.

Thanks for your time. :(

Cheers for now

That is something we have been talking about already amongst ourselves. We have to consider other local shops also without taking a preference to any to be fair to all.

I know there aren't many shops specialising in slotcars locally so we will get back to you on this.

We have only been on line a month so we want to make the right decision before we leap in. I am sure the members would like to know where to go to shop.

Howdy Vince,

thanks for your email last night. I agree, looking fwd to metting up once our shop is opened (hopefully by July 1) and then we'll take it from there.

Perhaps more than one shop could sponsor the site...

Cheers for now

I agree with that but I would like to see more members also to make it worthwhile for sponsors.

I guess we have to take into account the guests who drop in also. We have a few ideas to make it more interesting.
