Sadly I wish I could start but I didn't even start my entry yet other then buying it and some decals made by the incomparable Stubbo. Ninco Acura LMP,non podded,so I'm not too sure if thats the way to go,we'll see,but after last years proxy the non podded cars were right on the money in comparing them to the podded cars. Motor is a Flat6,independant fronts,pauls tyres,off set crown gear,rear axle bracing. Testing so far shows good speed,although I'm about 2/10 off the mag cars at the moment on my track,so there is still some way to go,have not added weight yet. I must have been on drugs at the time as the car is a spirit courage, the one with both a chassis and a floor pan, connected via 3 suspension mounts. the amount of tinkering necessary to get the bits to float was a fair challenge. At the moment at home it's consistently .05 a lap quicker than my Aston, but all the grunt of a long can motor makes it harder to drive. after 29 laps i ripped the guide clean out of the mount! i had to fit one from a slot.it hrs front end i had lying around -lucky. it's not ready to break cover yet as it looks like a bucket of cr@p. if tomorrows testing at ged's is successful it might even get paint and a big ol' sticker with 'Aus #1' on it. wanky i know but it's not something one gets to do very often. Terry that Acura is the first car I've not purchased based on the fact it seems to be too stable and fast to be any fun!! i expect if you keep it simple you'll be right up there. first corner crash Posted January 9, 2010 Report Share Posted January 9, 2010 I am in the midst of moving so my car hasn't been much of a priority. Tried cutting in an anglewinder pod with a flat 6r into a GT one and it was very quick but felt like a car that the boulder brothers from the wacky races would run it was pretty rough. Also the anglewinder pod meant that i had to use larger hubs than originally planned for clearance then needed to shim the body slightly to stop slight tyre rub. (The things we do chasing a tenth) I Have a spare chassis and one of the new racing inline mounts so ill try a couple of variants and see which is the smoothest and easiest. Like Manimmal I think this will be quicker that my 09 car. As for Australia 1. Go for it i think it adds flavour to the event. Quote 4x national champion 6x national runner up. manimmal Posted January 10, 2010 Report Share Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) needs decals and trim reattached but looks pretty flash through my eyes. the stinking hot weather has meant quick turn around between coats too. pulled a 3.46 around Ged's in yellow last week, which is extremely fast, but as already mentioned the spirit motor is very strong. i'm hoping the linear nature of this particular motor will help it to work on more technical tracks. first corner crash Posted January 10, 2010 Report Share Posted January 10, 2010 is the motor a s3x or a sxxx ? The sxxx is a bit more powerful. Sits around the same as a slot.it boxer or king evo maybe a tad under those and the s3x is about the same as an NC6 i think maybe a fraction more. Bpth are high torque types that rev around 20k or thereabouts. Good to see a Courage entered. I think Sportsracer is entering a Reynard so Spirit will be well represented. I nearly bought a Dallara sport of Ebay a while back so who knows there may have been the full trifecta entered. I will stick with the Scaleauto gt one for now as i think it is still my favourite car. Paint looks like its going to be great. manimmal Posted January 10, 2010 Report Share Posted January 10, 2010 it's a Sxxx, i think they forgot an 'e'??? the car is really great fun car to drive, but is so far from a 'beginners' car i don't know how it will fair. ged's best time was about 2/10th behind me, so it's not too psyco, but the thing is really driven on the throttle, not the guide. i chose this car as this is not an obvious choice. i guess like my 08 'Stuper Escort' entry. I'd rather suck in a trabant than win in an r8; conforming to non-conformity as it were. Even last years Aston Martin was a non conformist attempt gone right - it was always going to be a strong car with some hugs, but even at the time not an obvious choice like the Ninco Mosler, in fact anything ninco. this year i'm picking a scaleauto gt1 s can or a sloter zytec as the winner. The motor seemed like a good choice a 24k 12v and I wanted to experiment with the pinion and crown using slot it parts. So far I have ditched the scx axle and gone for a slot-it axle, wheels, tyres, crown and pinion. Running a 9 tooth pinion with a 28 tooth crown which seems to go well on my track, bit worried that might be a bit slow on the larger tracks. Thats one nice looking car. :aussie: If you say it works ok on your track, and your after some more speed because you think it might lack some on the big track.Try a 10 pinion first. I'm not sure what the torque on scx motors are like,but if it breaks well into corners,try a 10/26.No harm in trying. Most of my inline set up's i run are 10/23 to 10/25 with NSR kings.But this combination would be to fast i beleive for the proxy event. If you are going to try some alternate gearing I would only go down to a 26 or 27! first corner crash Posted January 18, 2010 Report Share Posted January 18, 2010 Good choice of car! Th pro Audis have a good record in proxy's as they ae a good handler. The motor seeems to be about right for an event like this not too hot but certainly has enough herbs to get it around at a decent clip. Like all scx motors the car will brake very well so gearing is just about getting the car to be at a nice smooth pace. SCX cars i have had usually come with 9:27 gears or 3 to one. I am not sure of the garing on the pro Audi but there is no need to cnange to slot it gears as the scx pro are good stuff. As a general rule gearing them at around 2.7 or 2.5 to one seems to be where the experienced tuners have geared these cars. you coud simply put a ten tooth and go with a crown from 27 down to 25 depending on what you want or if you have a nine tooth on the motor simply put on a 24 crown for 2.66 to one. As always in proxy's make it easy to drive and pick the right tyre and you will be around the mark. Cheers Trevor. Quote 4x national champion 6x national runner up. I am amazed at how much tuning and tweaking these things affects the performance, all I have ever done before is sand tyres and add a bit of weight, am learning heaps through preparing for the proxy.
