Camber
Hi all, Finally finished my first routed digital track design, I decided to take out a few best line corners to make for more interesting racing and passing oportunities. Track will be cnc routed with magnabraid and ferodore. Comments and suggestions welcome. <img src="" /> Edited February 6, 2016 by Camber Quote Hoo Roo
Paul NZ
Looks good, but looks very plastic! If you are routing why don't you put more racing lines into the lanes , the spacing can still be the same in places to allow the cars to pass but get the cars moving around the track a bit more, like where you don't have LC's have the lanes come to gether like a squeeze so you get the in out of a corner effect of cut a few corners, think like a 1:1 car would drive it. This is a big lesson I learnt from my Routed digital build, get away from the robotic look and the racing will be muck more enjoyable. Enjoy the build I will be following it closely to see your progress :nice: Quote Paul NZ - Scale with Detail! gzminiz
If I was to go digital I like I would add a lane in areas. Have three down the front stretch that goes into the best line. On my track I have a huge sweeper that I would add a lane to as well. Just a thought Quote The Duke - 2nd Routed Track
SlotsNZ
Dang . . . where have I seen a track that lloks a litle like that . . . OH of COURSE. This afternoon . . . you've designed "the paperclip" Paul, shame on you for not recognising a slightly opened version of your home-state raceway LOL sorry, couldn't resist mate. gzminiz
i want to know what software you designed that on, the rendering is awesome Quote The Duke - 2nd Routed Track
Vinno
I like it, easy marshaling and not overly complex for a racing track. I understand your not putting racing lines in everywhere as it would make it too simple, too many straight lines.
aussieslotter
I like it too, should make for some awesome racing..... Quote Smoke, mirrors and obsolescence. It’s a jungle out there. www.scorpiuswireless.com
Camber
i want to know what software you designed that on, the rendering is awesome I modelled the track on Solidworks. I think the rendering is OK, I've seen a lot better though. I just haven't put the hours into learning to render photo quality images. The great thing with Solidworks is the track is life size and I can generate outlines for CAM programs to rout the track. If not too expensive, I'll see if the router can engrave all the track details like ripple strips, road outlines and barrier trenches from this model. I like it, easy marshaling and not overly complex for a racing track. I understand your not putting racing lines in everywhere as it would make it too simple, too many straight lines. Marshalling and being able to view the track were key aspects. The track will only accomodate 4 cars for the room its going in. With best line on every corner, I couldn't see any oportunities to pass which may have made for boring racing. 5 of the 9 corners are varying in radius, so I think you will have to be on your game when someone tries to overtake you. Camber
Hi guys, Got some scary prices for routing the track, so thought I will try another option. I have a small CNC machine center so why not put it to use for routing the track. I can only machine small pieces about 500mm x 350mm, so I broke the model up into small pieces and will assemble it like a tiled floor. Thinking of using a biscuit joiner to join them all together...all 70+ of them Some late nights ahead. Rob
Perhaps you could model on some dovetails as such to ensure some positive location for assembly. Quote Regards Rob
Camber
Good thinking Rob, even a wood biscuit on the horrizonal and vertical of the top face, aswel as the edge. That would lock every piece in 3 dimensions for near perfect alignment and minimise movement. Quote Hoo Roo
Camber
Hi Guys, Made a little bit of progress today with the track, can see it starting to take shape. The tiles seem to marry up nicely with each other. Takes about 3/4 of an hour to program and machine each one, 7 down...61 to go. - Cam Edited February 19, 2016 by Camber 1 Quote Hoo Roo

I know he's interestede in getting back into slot cars. Any chance of getting access to a file, or how much you'd want for it? Camber
Hi Todd, Not much to report, i've ripped up one section of the table which I had my Scaley track on and will be the base for the new track. Have not had a chance to do any more routing yet. That will change soon, I'm keener than ever to get this track up and running Thanks for checking in. - Cam Quote Hoo Roo
Camber
Quick update, I have joined about half the track tiles together. Turned out better than expected, amazing how strong and accurate biscuit joins are. Very happy so far Edited February 19, 2016 by Camber Quote Hoo Roo
gzminiz
i need to stop reading about other peoples track builds, makes me want to do another one. Looks great.with the small pieces you could actually custom make em and ship it reasonably. Camber
Finished building 4 panels out of the 63 tiles I machined to build the track and assembled them on my table which required lots of filling and sanding. Should I need to, I will be able to disassemble the track (4 pieces). - Cam Edited February 19, 2016 by Camber Quote Hoo Roo
