  1. Hiya,

I did, lock, stock, and every nut and bolt I ever owned. I sold all 50 plus Silicone molds to another chap, and then he accidently had them thrown out!!! So I was pretty devastated about that I can tell you. 15 plus years of work just gone.

I also don't know whats happeneing racing wise. I got banned for life (AGAIN) because I said on the internet they're a bunch of slow arsed old men with no vision.. Really funny story actually, but I don't care. Am interested to get in contact with Russell Sheldon as he's back in CT, and see what his plans may be.

Your classes aand kits look good tho, happy for you guys.. and the Scaleauto GT's have turned into a world class series for sure.

say howzit to Tim if you see\speak to him.

    regards

  3. Stargate,

no these aren't vac-formed. Like the guys down there, we started into 1/24 using vac formed bodies of the 60's and 70's classic sportscars, and have now just started the Open class, which is 80's based Group C Sportscars, but these care hard body, either commercially available plastic kits from Tamiya or Revell, or home made Laminated fibreglass and resin bodies, with a Min running weight of 180 grams for the car, and 60 grams for the bodies with bodymounts, to help keep things even and balanced.

These have been laminated and built with epoxy resin and matting, I have a new tutorial on the Slotcars.co.za website on building the Nissan R89 C from beginning to end with pictures for you to see the process.

  4. Hi guys,

The Cambridge Club in Cape Town held it's first 1/24 LEGENDS series Hard Body Class Series last night, and the turnout was superb. Using the Vac Formed Sportscar Class as a stepping Stone up into the "open" class, we decided to go the Group C Le Mans cars as they're awesome looking cars, they are low and wide, and present an awesome handling Hard Body Car to race in an Open Class, similarly to what our International friends race in Europe and the USA/Canada.

In 2009, We'll again be putting together an Easter Festival at the Ecurie Club in Durban, which will see the usual Classic Sportscars on Plafit 1300 U chassis, and the Open Class with Hard Body cars for a SA/International event. Jan we hope to see you there once again if possible, and perhaps you can bend Simon and a few other guys' arms to join you?? :)

    Cheers for now

  5. Hi Jan,

spoke with Craig, sounds like you guys had a good event.. Some of the cars looked really nice, and some didn't, but thats always expected..

Busy putting plans in place now for an International event in April at Ecurie with Craig, so, hope you can keep your diary open for then, and also try and check if Simon etc can also make it then.

We're carrying on with the same formats for classics etc, but the Opens will be with Hard Body cars, not the lexan bodies as you guys used here. Unfortunately it seems old SAMCA is going this route for 2009, again, deciding to go their road as part of the NATS series, which we're not promoting or trying to get up and going. Frustrates me totally..

    Anyway, chat soon buddy.

    Cheers for now

  6. Hi Jan,

If I may. The problem with trying to "keep up" with the Europeans, is how much you as an individual, or a body of peeople lose in the the long run... I know this first hand. :D

While I agree in principle with your comments about standardizing equipment and trying to maintain as similar as possible, a set of ground rules, to try and race the same cars (FIA GT, ALMS ETC) is what willc ertainly hurt, and slow down the growth of the class.

We're proof of the "standardizing" of the classic class very similar to yours, as you know, and it's now going into it's 3rd year, but, the "Open" class, I suggest you try to keep the costs as low as possible, and look at what cars you can get your hands on and run them at a Worlds level. We're about to start the LEGENDS series, which is going to be our standard Open Class, and which the Europeans and Germans run on their SLP and Legends classes.

When I first put FIA Gt bodies on the track, the guys here frowned and shunned them because they had never seen them before, and the overall build process just proved to steep a hill to climb for the novices. But, as in our case, (And I think you guys), Group C cars raced in the 80's, and many enthusiasts were witness to the awesome machines in real life.. It became an instant success.

I still think, we need to work together on the "Southern Hemisphere" Power we are all part of..

    Have a good weekend.

  7. Hi guys,

Yep, been watching this un-fold and am also SUPER imressed with Jan and the other guys' performances, very well done, good for you all, and good on you for "pushing" the "works" team so well, you all did excellently. (Bow in respect..)

Also in total agreement with Tim "Mr T", everyone always thinks the fast guys are in Europe etc, but level out the playing field, you guys are JUST as sharp.. AWESOME job, pats on the back.

    :o

  8. Hi Jan,

glad to hear you had some nice racing up there. I also see you've either seen or heard of the new developments, even within that club, which has stirred up a huge controversy.. So much so that I essentially shut down the Portal..

Anyway, re-focussed, and heading in an independent direction now, the sites back, and my comments are there for open speculation. I've had it with the "dark side" (GAT) mindset, as has Craig, and so we have to do things on our own..

So, we continue on our own for now.. As I own the Website, I'm not tied in to anything dealing with the other organization, or for that matter, THAT club, or other clubs which insist on changing/modifying the current rules as you mentioned.. So now we'll see..

PS. there are some shells I wish to sell. If you, or anyone else is keen, email me.

  9.

It's been over a month since your Nats event, and still no sign of a descent report, Thanks Paul for 3 Pictures.

THis section is for 1/24 Scale Racing, and it's basically non-existent report/picture wise from Australias Official NATS event..

It's a sad status if the feedback and enthusiasm to show everyone else "what they missed" is like this guys.

Suggestion. Don't use the normal glues you might think will work. You HAVE to use a 2 part epoxy glue, as what Jan says is right, they lose bits easily. I use a 5 minute curing 2 part epoxy which comes in like a double-barrel syringe.. Is clear, and drys clear, so can be used on Windows etc. If the rules permit, I suggest the Lexan Windows for sure Jan. Another suggestion. If you can, try cut the side windows away from the Windscreen.. ie: Glue them in as seperate pieces.. Also helps to keep a little flexibility and helps them fit better. Don't make the Engine and Interior one piece. Glue the Engine in on it's own, then the rear window part, then tape in the Interior.

When you get a chance, take some Pics of the chassis setup if you don't mind, or email to me.. I'd like to see what your final setup looks like ok.

  11. :) That looks awesome Jan,

But I'd have a problem with the missing piece(s) of chassis plates in the front nose.. There's a pice you've left off in the middle, so I know the undertray is not there either.. :)

And, you should paint the white over the bonnet before you put the Numbers on.. You can see the dark colour bleed through the number panels..

    Awesome look car my man.

  12. Hi Jan,

Well I was under the impression you guys had also adopted the IMCA 430 Rules for your Plafit event there. It doesn't require the Passanger seat to be fitted.

The use of the vac-formed "tub" interiors is now common practice overseas, and has been height ajusted already prior to vac-forming so that the interior clears all the chassis bolts and springs. This car also features vac formed windows all round, and vac formed motor. The original Dashboard and Roll Cage is used, and the Drivers arms and Head are resin.

I'll take a Pic of the underside when it's finished, showing the front and rear parts required from the chassis, and the rear wheel arches which need to be cut half way up. I can only weigh this when I've mounted it to give you a weight idea, but I believe, without adding extra blaast, it should be at min 60 grams.

    Regards
