  1. I have noticed a couple of versions of these at Armchair Racer and they are tempting. There is a good test of these in issue 35 of GSR magazine. They seemed to have more problems getting the car to run smoothly than you did and ended up running Slotit P2 tyres to help with the too much traction issue. I think they test on plastic too. The rules you guys race to must be difficult with cars like this as they seem to run better with weight added. I guess adding weight can make you lazy as it is easier to stop deslotting problems with a bit of weight than actually trueing tyres and wheels. Armchair and Patto both bring this magazine in although 35 is a few issues ago. Still may be able to get back copies.
  2. This deleting of posts is not the work of mr Wise but of one his moderaters who doesn't like our forum. For this reason some of us no longer go on the HRW site which is a pity as it is an informative site with good tips and hints. You have done a great job on the track directory and in the end people will come to find out from other means and other forums.
  3. Auslot paid a visit to Roland at Slot Shop today to see his new store and give our members an idea of what goodies you can buy from Roland. He has made the most of the space available to provide a surprising variety of cars, spares, scenery pieces and track sets. Below are some pictures of what you will find in his store. He carries an extensive range of Fly cars and controllers. He also carries a range of Ninco spare parts. Here you can see his Ninco and Carrera display with Ninco tracksets and track pieces. here are some of his Scalextric track pieces along with some great looking Momogram figures and decal sets. The SCX stand. Monogram body kits for the Cobra Daytona and other Monogram spares. Scalextric cars tracksets and spares along with some Artin 1/43 scale tracksets. Monogram figures. Roland and Bo surveying Rolands Artin four lane track he uses for customers to test their cars on and a bit of fun with his mates after hours. The four lane Artin set as it comes. It comes with four carsas well and is great values for money. We found the Artin track to be similar to Carrera to drive. I could not fault the smoothness of the track and the grip was also surprisingly good. We had a great afternoon driveing and checking out Rolands shop and we could recommend dropping in to see what he has set up. To see Slot Shops details look here Thanks Roland
  4. As far as loose screws go I use any with a different thread. 9mm Ninco screws are good as are Slotit screws.
  5. Bo and myself did extensive testing last night of the Trans Ams in both Sport and Non Sport configeration. We could find no difference in performance from either version and I actually found my Non Sport No16 George Follmer Mustang to do a best lap about half a tenth quicker than my Sport Penske Camaro. The Mustang has had more running owing to the fact that I prefer Fords. Saying that I think they are both very equal with the 2mm button magnet by Ninco. Jim will have some in his shop late friday but I will get some myself to cover what we need along with some Devious has loaned for the race. Rules will be: Stock Scalextric Trans Ams with 2mm Sport button magnets or 2mm Ninco button magnets. Both are the same. Do not confuse the Ninco magnet with their thicker version that comes in most of their cars. The road versions are OK to race as are repaints and versions using the body from the Scalextric Trans Am model kits. No lowering bodies onto chassis. No filing down sides of chassis or body for float. We have not decided on having body screws backed off. For those that don't know this allows the body to soak up bumps and vibrations in the track surface as well as letting the body tilt through corners slightly. It is a racing trick but can lead to screws falling out and shorting the track if the screw is not tight in the thread. We did try this last night and there is a small performance gain to be had. No pumping guards. Standard tyres and wheels. Guides can be narrowed as this is a problem with the early Trans Ams when running on Ninco track. No weight can be added and no lightening of any part of the car. The cars will be scruitineered. Bumpers can be removed as they will probably be broken off otherwise. The rear bumper on the Camaro is especially vulnerable. Anything I have missed please let me know and Bo add anything else you can think of. We will do a separate post once all is settled. A date will be arranged this weekend but we are trying for a Saturday Arvo-Night in the next four weeks.
  6. I am up for this one too. I haven't driven on wood yet.
  7. The Ninco magnet you are using is the 4mm one. The ones we are using are 2mm thick. We will have enough to put in anyones car who races. The Ninco 2mm magnets are the same as the Scalextric Sport magnets. They seem to have disappeared from the shops at present but we are waiting for some to arrive.
  8. Christmas in July eh? Thats a good idea and excuse to buy more stuff. It's August now though but that means birthday time and September is fathers day. I can't wait.
  9. I don't think you have done anything wrong with your track. I have also used the crossover curves the same way in my track. I found the inside lane which sweeps wide to be better to drive than the outside cutting in.
  10. I like the look of the Diablo with some more realistic wheels. Sounds like a good idea for another race category Roland. We will have to try and keep different dates for our races so we can come along too.

    New Shed

If you are going to pull up to the ceiling don't forget to insulate the roof of your shed. It gets pretty hot in Aus as you know and plastic isn't that tollerant to extreme heat.
  12. What is the brand of hand controllers you bought and are they wired for brakes? Check the plug to make sure it is the same as the old hand controls you replaced. If that is OK try checking for bits of loose braid across the rails. Sometimes it can be torn off and drop down the gap causing a short.
  13. It is none of the shops posting in this thread.
  14. Here's a couple of originals on the new Emu Park.
  15. For those who want to do some Trans Am repaints Armchair Racer has the Scalextric kits for $9.99 each. The kit bodies fit straight on the slotcar chassis so any Moffat Mustangs or those like me who missed out on a Jane Camaro, these are nice and cheap. I will be getting a few.
  16. We are discussing the magnet versus weight issue at present. We are finding the lap times quicker by a tenth or two with weight rather than the button magnet and they are also better balanced. The magnet glues the front down quite well so deslots are non existent but the tail waves around in the breeze a bit. The weighted cars drive better by minimising the amount of sliding and tend top get the power down better. The cars were to remain stock otherwise and we are allowing the road versions as the tyres are the same compound. We will have rules done next week. I am going to the snow this weekend so we can't sort it this weekend. Vince
  17. Was it sponsored by Wollongong?
  18. Do any of you guys want to give up on Ebay for a month and spend the money on a plane trip? Davenic do you know of anyone down your way with a suitable track for holding a race? Why don't you start a similar topic for a Melbourne race. Devious we want to make it as easy as possible for the beginners but we will do a comparison at Armchair very soon to see how close they are. Peter I will do an explanation in the thread for Emu Park but there was no rocket science involved. It was more to do with the base itself than the track.

    Fiat Abarth 1000

We drive them weighted without a magnet. We have a few small pieces of lead in any available spot under the chassis to lower the centre of gravity. They do go better on Scalextric track than Ninco as the Ninco has just a bit too much grip. Shaving the tyre edges helps though. I imagine they would run well on Artin and Carrera track too.

    Fiat Abarth 1000

Bo and myself punishing our Fiat Arbaths on the first test night of the new Emu Park layout. Heaps of work to go but all seems to run well so far. A couple of arty shots by Jacob.
  21. Here are a couple of pics of Michaels 1970 Boss 302 Scalextric Mustang with Sport magnet in place racing Jacob with my Sport Camaro with weight and no magnet. I also ran my non magnet stock Mustang with weight and all were within a couple of tenths. I know this is a raging debate but we have found the Sport Camaro to go no better than stock camaros and Mustangs and we would have at least a dozen versions of these cars now. The difference between front mag and no mag is nothing in times but they do feel different. This was also the first test of my new layout with some hastily layed borders to allow room to slide. Still a lot of work to do but the new dogleg section in double outer curves feels like routed track to drive. Can lift the rear wheels as the track dips away to the left.
  22. I let them use an SCX F1 with magnet. My daughter learnt using an SCX Audi GTO and then an SCX F1. Jacob is a bit too old for those cars but he used to sit on my knee and watch the cars go around. Maybe that is why my wife bought me my first track. I was happy babysitting.
  23. G'day F1 chick. Good to see you posting on the site. Do you like our Scalex F1's in our Willmot F1 series?
  24. I agree with all you have said here Perro. I have been buying Ninco cars from the Mercedes C klass touring car and have a couple of Mclaren F1 GTR's being the Harrods and the Gulf both with NC1 motors. I also have a Porsche 911 GT1 with NC1 and have as you said converted my Cobra to NC1 to race in our classic class. As I said in the another topic I have recently converted my Ninco Indy car from NC5 to NC1 to race in our standard Racing class. Surprisingly it is quicker than my Ninco Arrows with Slotit Boxer motor and rear end as the Arrows wheelspins everywhere. Since I started racing this year I have found the NC1 to be very popular although they don't like low voltages and lag rather badly when racing Scalextric engined cars. The Ninco handling generally closes the gap when the correct voltage is used.
  25. Gyprock how did you go with the magnetic braid. We heard it is quite expensive and I imagine you would need at least 200 metres if you were doing four lanes.
