  3. Hi everyone The W.A.R.(Western Adelaide Raceway) 2017 slot car racing year kicked off with a big bang last Saturday night with the running of the annual W.A.R. GT Championships. Eighteen enthusiastic SA slot car racers filled the raceway for what turned out to be a fast, furious and very keenly fought battle over five different classes for GT cars. We also had two newcomers at W.A.R. with Chris Clarke and Andy Behrndt joining us for the first time. Many thanks for attending. The racing commenced with the 132 Classic GT class: Dennis Miller with his awesome NSR Gulf Porsche 917K proved the pick of the field, closely followed by Wade Farrel (Thunderslot Lola T70), Mick Spry (NSR 917K), Dave Jones (Thunderslot Lola T70) and John Smedley (NSR Ford P68). Congratulations go to Dennis on winning the 132 Classic Gt class, and for Wade finishing runner up Next up was the 132 Sideways Group 5 GT class: Dennis with his ultra smooth Sideways BMW M1 proved the fastest at the end of racing, but there was a very close battle for second between Mick Spry (Ford Capri), John Smedley (Ford Capri) and Alan O'Dea (BMW M1) separated by only one lap at the end of racing. The battle for second place was unbelievably close, with only one lap separating second to sixth place at the end of 8 intense heats. Congratulations go to Wade on winning the 124 BRM GT class, and for John S finishing runner up That left the last class for the night, the 124 Scaleauto GT class: Ian Sutton's beautifully balanced Porsche 997 proved to be the winner, closely followed by Mick S. Unfortunately, the W.A.R. track experienced its first ever technical problem during heat 7 of the last class, when Wade lost power intermittently whilst racing on red lane causing him a major loss of laps for that heat. After much thought, the WAR committee has made the following official ruling: Wade's total laps completed for the class will be amended to equal second place along with Mick Spry based on the average laps Wade completed for the other seven heats. Hi We had our first practice session yesterday for the BRM Enduro to be held at the new high-speed 8-lane W.A.R. track very fast times were set by all the 6 teams entered, and this promises for a very close and fast Enduro this Saturday night we still have one further practice session this Thursday night can't wait for the racing

Further to my previous post, here are some further comments about the cars: Car #1 Stubbo - down on power and no brakes Car #78 Manimmal - prone to deslot on RH corners,but very quick Car #2 Spoons - drop guide receding too far and only engaging last 2mm in slot, couldn't complete a lap without desloting, rectified by glueing 2 small pieces of lead between the drop arm & axle tube, now running much better though corners Car #47 Kalbfell - very noisy on the straights and vibrating so that top speed is inhibited, suspect an independent front wheel is causing the problem as the bushing is very loose on both wheels. unable to rectify Cars #78 & 20 were a bit more difficult to drive than the rest with a tendency to tip, but #78 is still very quick As to the motors used in the cars, the SRP motor outperforms the rest of the motors used. Also the Solar notices outperforms the BWA on the straights (except for Stubbo's car). regards Mike

Hi again After having helped Alan run round 5 of the series and raced the cars on a short, tight track, the FPR track really sorted out the cars that could run on the longer tracks In particular, it sorted out the cars that could put the power down out of some very tight corners on to the longish straight of the FPR track Some of the cars didn't have enough acceleration, in particular Lenny Broke and Stubbo's cars (the motor in Stubbo's car might be experiencing some problems), whilst other cars had problems dealing with the tighter corners (Alexis, Spoons, Ferrari1950, Miverson) However, there was only 0.5 secs separating the cars that came 2nd to 17th, so the racing will be close on Saturday for sure regards Mike
