  1. interesting read..... I entered a National Road Championship once........... once!! many off us were spat of the back at the start line,,,,hardest start ever imaginable at the time,,, spent the whole lap chasing hard as,, but I was cooked............. All those around me(& I was thinking the same ) were going off with comment such as how the riders we've never seen before must be juiced off their heads.......

Truth was.....the fun bunch & I were very decent riders for C grade easily,, & B grade on our better weeks............

30km Club races & occasional century rides was no prep for a 100km Nat. championship......

The Bitter truth was...... these riders we've never seen before were among the best riders Australia has to offer...... they trained for that event...

a bit off topic .. I know.... But I'm sure you get it ;)

  2. i too have been in the hunt for new machinery..... for the $,, I sought of know what to expect in quality............. but couldn't pass it up.....

    check it out... http://www.ebay.com....984.m1497.l2649

edit..... the only bummer is it doesn't come with a drill att. in the tail stock...... but I notice a thread were the live centre attaches.... may be I could screw a chuck on here.

  3. thank God Scaletric's.. SCX... Ninco & some other brands have already off loaded some great GM models....... I like the effort Carrera put into their bodys but it annoys me every time I go to pull a Carrera out of the box..... The tires are perished.... & its hard to find decent replacements.

  4. ha ha .... liked the comment... "It looked like someone had painted it with their tongue after sanding it with a chainsaw." ....... your re-build come out pretty good considering the canvas.... I recon a little more drop on the front end would look sweet...... though the car look's good as is...

  5. well the Mac really outclassed the Porsche in the final round........ Really impressed with my first entry into a proxy ,, apart from fairly consistent results across all rounds (& a few "rabbit out of the hats")..... I'm quite stoked the Mclaren will be coming home with it's mirrors.. LOL :D ......

Thanks to all involved .... Looking forward for to the next New Zealand Canam Proxy

    Bring on the Group 5's

  6. with comments like... "smooth & stable" .... "ok to drive"... & .. "holds track well" ....coming from the last 2 rounds,,, I'm thinking someone has tampered with the cars. lol ....... or maybe I better start the build for next year series & start flogging it now... & shake the dust off......

cheers .... great to see the cars are still up there slightly improving..

  7. Just noticed ..... I've jumped from another thread to this one..... both have similar titles...

Hey Charles.. Hope your build is going sweetly.... I find myself staring at my work for ages,, thinking & thinking some more before I commence... only to find I do the very obvious.. I'm thinking of building a 2nd chassis so keep the pics coming I'm watching in interest (not in a creepy way  ) of how you attack you build

  8. Well I've just attempted to fix the guide mount....... opted not to go brass (for now) as tubing was not spot on in size needed.... so stocked up on more styrene... Chassis is outside setting as I type.. arildite.

but here's a few pics of prep. I hope the drilled holes help with strenghth/ bonding.

  9. cheers Chenglaw .. drw21 ... off to Kelletts Hobbies now ...

But last night...... was really an emotional moment for me...... looking at the damage .... DSCF31742_zpsac496f92.jpg .... took me to that sad place,,,,,, Like when my wife came home with the first damage to our her new car -_- ...... It was like witnessing the birth of our first child  , & thinking "it'll never be the same again"....

  10. Note to self.......... "your track is to shallow for slot it wood guides "

Damn .. Damn ... & bloody Damn..... it was all lookin good... was runnin sweet for my first build..... & the the car stopped all too sudden & the body came off..... thought the drive tyres spat the body off (was ruuning loose) till I noticed this..... Damn it.

    DSCF31742_zpsac496f92.jpg

I guess now is the time to ask if the Proxy tracks are wood guide compatible??

& what are the other scratch builders using for guide mounts??

  11. I've used the same "Loctite" Super glue on the Styrene Sheeting,,,,,, was told to roughen but found just scraping area clean (using end of 6" rule) has worked well so far........ proxy will tell...... only issue is I wish i bought a delayed curing version.

  12. You should try some Ultraloc - thread locking compound (available from BUnnings) - couple of drops and the gear won't move from the axle - if you make a mistake or want to use the crown again simply get a soldering iron and the compound easily melts.

Not sure if were on the same page........ I'm reffering to the ... "plastic gear" to the "Alloy hub".... I'm guesing the Loctite super glue will work fine for this...........

do have some thread locker aswell....... might use on the Axle assembly.... .....thanks for the reminder.

  13. For those of you that are going to give Group 5 a go, I bet you'll be taking results and ideas from this CanAm Series and apply them to your Group 5 cars - I know I will be.

nup...still in the dark here...... be nice to see which Chassis/motors/tyre combos other entrants are running............. no biggy though.... choosing my parts by the "whats in the box" method....

  14. part of my build were fitting the motor pod/cradle with the bearing extensions was a waste of effort.... went out & bought a little file set & worked the pod/cradle in nice a snug ....no binding when fitted....only to find it fitted above the chassis due to the size of the rear wheels...... Another headache was getting the body mounted to my perfection,,, with wheels under the gaurd I didn't want any rubing.... 3 attempts... I'm pleased now....... Spent last night filling of excess Dia. from the hubs to be fitted to the rims ....DSCF3168_zps7e26ec98.jpg

......... Now need to get the rolling chassis motorised & moving by soughting out these scaley gears...had trouble with the crown gears when first purchased,,(I never used glue).. & haven't used since.... though the side winder variety worked a charm (with glue)..... though both have different stress..

    DSCF3170_zps5f7c2ee9.jpg DSCF3167_zpsd9b59fc3.jpg

    & then onto body...

  15. Me... I've been busy every arvo lately ...... thinking ... cutting ... thinking some more ... cutting some more.....

    DSCF3142_zps4141c8c2.jpgDSCF3154_zpse19f62c8.jpg

Plan was to utilize what I've got in the box ... Carrera Porche Body .... Scaley pro parts(3mm axle kit) .... a variety of motors (mostly 18,000 types)

Firstly.... attempted to make my own cradle.... very tight tolerance when using 3mm with sidewinder set up.... then to inline.... but securing the motor without the use of glues was my hangup........ Praise the Lord for Slotit cradles...

finally settling on a simple build method ......... still a litle more to do

    DSCF3141_zps115dbc70.jpg

  16. Aquakiwi.......... good car you got there.... every time I look @ it, it gets/looks tougher... hope it runs tough for ya...(but not too tough )

Chas................ That's a costly way of a build.(I hate spending)... Good luck... hope it goes to plan.. ;)
