  1. You have the 2 tracks in Auckland, Orakei Raceway and the Henderson club track. There is one more smaller but really good track in Auckland I know of, I can ask the guy if he is keen, I would expect he would be fine with it if ya get stuck.
  2. Hi DC, where and when do these cars have to go?
  3. Hi Racers, Please find attached the NEW entry form to replace all other entry’s forms that where sent out for the 2020 Challenge. To enter the Slot Car Festival (replaces the Challenge) you must fill this form out and return ASAP if you don’t you will miss out competing this year. If you have payed $45 that still stands but we require a new entry form. Please make sure you tick all the boxes of the classes you're entering in. NO FORM NO ENTRY NO EXCEPTIONS
  4. A question for DC............ Is this chassis too 'high tech'? The motor and back 1/2 assembly is solid to the front of the chassis with no real flex as the main rails are brazing rod not piano wire. The side pan arms pivot from the back and the pans flap a small amount but the body is mounted to the chassis through the holes you can see. It is for a '69 Camaro. Cheers for checking.
  5. Hi Chas, to save every one from having to buy a new motor the 20k Shark and the 21.5k EVO motors will run in the same class. Remember some of these motors have been glued to the pod and won't come out easily. We have tested the 2 side by side and found the 21.5 can be a tad faster on the straights but the 20k is easier to run on the corners and the cars de-slot on the corners not the straights so in reality it will be what ever the driver is happy with. Less can be more!!!
  6. Hi Chas, in my opinion with the few 21-5's I have driven is that the motor does have more torque and speed because of the new EVO version. With the way the cars are we are committed to all run the same ratio of 11-32 so the cars will be faster and may be a bit harder to drive at a fast pace. Not a lot in it but defenately noticeable.

  9. Hi Guys, with the NSR F1 cars, originally we didn't want to add weight to them, we wanted to keep them as out of the box as possible but then we tried them out. They were great if you didn't over 10 volts and you just wanted to put around at a good pace. So we glued and trued the tires and that made them more stable, so we drove them a bit harder and for those that really know the track they were OK like that if you had less than 11 volts. I tried some weight as did a few other guys (up to 80 grams) that were keen to have some close racing and the lap times were not any quicker but the cars stayed on the track more. I then tried 85 grams and even better handling as expected. So naturally I tried 90 grams and a bit better again, still lots of brakes with the extra weight. Also remember this - these cars are wider than what we are used to racing, the wheels can easily tangle and Tony's track in Nelson runs more than 12 volts. We thought it best to keep the rules simple and set them to promote close racing like we have with the NSR classics and the Thunderslot cars too. The weight of these F1 cars has had a lot of testing and collabaration behind the scenes to make the racing close as that equals more fun for all. (I have not tried 95 grams yet) See you all there in Nelson in October!!!!!!!!
  10. UPDATE from Tony................ Labour Weekend Festival of Slot cars in Nelson Hi All, We have come up with a plan to run both the NSR Challenge and the Thunderslot meeting over Labour weekend Friday 23rd to Monday 26th. This is providing we hear that groups of 50 or less people can meet. The good thing about this is we will be back on track to hold the Challenge at the same time next year and the Thunderslot meeting was scheduled for this October anyway. Those that have already paid for the challenge but can’t attend this rescheduled meeting I’m happy to refund you the $45 and those that will attend will be in credit. First preference will be given to those that have entered this May’s postponed NSR challenge as some have air fare and accommodation credits. The format will be starting on the Friday Morning with qualifying NSR classics the running the two rounds. Next up will be the NSR F1 86/89 knock out race (first 2 go straight to the final) followed by the Thunderslot qualifying and the racing. Times and rules will be advised in a later timetable. So this will be with this be a festival of full on racing and a good opportunity to get out of your bubbles and check out the new raceway and shop. We are looking to be back on track without Covid 19 but fingers crossed. Take care stay safe.
  11. Hi Guys, the 2020 NSR Challenge is still on but now will be in OCTOBER The actual dates will be posted here as soon as they have been confirmed, gives us all loads of time to get ready!!!
  12. Hi Guys, this is an update regarding the 2020 NSR Challenge. Hi Racers, with the Corona Virus moving faster every day, it is with a heavy heart it has been decided to postpone the 2020 NSR Challenge. For your safety and all those that would have been attending this event, I need to take notice of the Government message of group gatherings being discouraged. I will re-schedule the event when we can. Please keep safe and remember the Shop will stay open for parts, cars, advice over this time. Tony
  13. ConHob (Peter Davison) '69 Camaro #31 please DC.
  14. Hi Guys, with less than 3 months to go before we all get together again for another great event, here is the official 2020 poster for Tony's seventh running of the annual NSR Classic Sports Car Challenge
  15. Remember the 90 grams is a maximum not the usual of having a minimum weight. I ran my car at 85 grams and it was good one my home track, at 90 grams it was truckloads betterer!! These rear tires have a huge amount of grip and the more weight up front really helps to make them flow on the track more = more laps per 2 minute run.
  16. Small update on the NSR F1 car rules....................... The line.......... Magnet and its holder must remain intact now reads........ Magnet and its holder may be removed
  17. some ideas on NSR F1 car set up.................. glue and true all tires, add lead, sort screws and go racing............ this pic shows where I have placed lead, the complete car weighs 89.75 grams. this pic shows the front to back balance point, just in front of the top side scoops
  18. No worries Mark, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
  19. NSR F1 update.................................... Here are the car rules for the NSR F1 cars that we will be racing on the same weekend as the NSR challenge........................ In basic terms they show you get your car, throw some numbers on it, glue and true the tires, add some lead up to 90 grams and then play with the screws till it runs how you want it to. A spring kit and axle stopper can be fitted if you feel the need. We have got some running and at this stage they have lots of brakes so a controller that can dial out some brakes would make racing the cars easier as they have so much rear grip. The boxer motor and the ratio are not an issue if you have a 1/2 decent controller. NSR F1 Car Rules Any of the NSR ’86-’89 F1 cars may be used General NSR F1 Cars must be complete with the appropriate visible details, driver, wings, inserts, scoops etc…. Only the KING EVO3 21.4k motor may be used, motor may be glued and or screwed into factory position All cars must use NSR F1 gears 10-27 A minimum ground clearance of .5mm is required for all entries, including chassis, gears, and bodywork Bodies, driver/interiors and chassis must remain complete Maximum weight of each car is 90gms, during and after each race No other modifications and/or tweaks are permitted other than what is listed below Chassis Stock NSR F1 factory NSR chassis (black) only Magnet and its holder may be removed Axles and spacers must be NSR items Axle bushes may be glued to the motor pod NSR #4860 axle stopper may be fitted to increase gear durability NSR spring kits are permitted Front axle position may be adjusted using the factory screw holes Stock NSR F1 factory NSR motor pod (red) only Stock NSR F1 clip in guide must be used Ballast may be fitted to the motor pod, chassis and or body but must remain inside the car so that it can’t be touched when marshaling the car Screws may be loosened for better performance Sticky tape may be fitted to the motor pod and chassis to dampen movement Wheels/Tires All rims and tires must be NSR F1 items - ie: the same width and diameter as what comes with the car Tires may be glue and trued Front tyres may be coned and or coated to reduce friction as long as the coating is clear, solid and stable All 4 tyres must have the NSR logo on at least one side All wheels must have NSR F1 inserts fitted, inserts may be narrowed but must look complete when in place Maximum width across front and rear axles is 67.5mm THE ONUS IS ON THE OWNER TO ENSURE THAT THEIR CAR COMPLIES WITH THE RULES
  20. UPDATE............ The NSR is looking to be another great event, entries are filling up very quick. The F1 cars are almost in NZ and when we get our grubby little hands on them we will be fnializing the car rules for them so keep checking back here so you don't miss them. Tony will be posting them once they are sorted, they will be as simple as we can have them to keep the cost down and give us all the close racing we enjoy.
  21. On the Sunday we will have some racing for the newly released NSR F1 cars. If you haven't got one organized and you want to race one on the Sunday, get in contact with Tony to see what he has coming. Rules for these cars to follow asap, the car rules will be simple so that every one has the same chance of competing.
  22. Here is the official entry form and car rules for the 2020 NSR Challenge. Please read them carefully as there are some iportant changes from last year.
  23. Good spotting Mark, I have amended the rules accordingly. Axles and spacers can be from any brand. Branco - the inserts can't have holes drilled so ya can't run the 90mm axles. HA!
