Right im about to start on a new track.i was going to make it a routed 3 lane but insert 2 x ssd xlc and 2 x ssd clc.To start with im going to run it analoge but when the latest ssd 6 car powerbase comes along(my local told me august,$229)ill go digital. I know scorpius is THE way to go and i emailed some questions and rick was very helpful.Holding me back is the cost.I think eventually i will get scorpius but not this year. Now maybe someone can correct me if im wrong which i probly am way off the mark but heres what im thinking: 1) 3 lane routed track with ssd pieces running as analogue. 2) when 6 lane digital comes out i power directly to tracks with existing powersupply (upto 15v,15amp)and powersupply that comes with powerbase runs the flippers and digital signal. 3)when i can afford scorpius i replace scalex powerbase the more i look at no. 2 the more it seems "it cant be that easy" any info or comments appreciated.Ive just been reading heaps on digital and i think ssd will be my best option at this stage. i would also like to have some sort of switching system to easily convert analogue-digital and viceversa

Hey Reb0rt, I found a $20 USB game control works fine.U just crack it open and solder on 2 wires to each button on the pcb.On the other end of the wires put LDRs(light dependent resistors same as in solar garden lights)They are only about $3 each. Then u just gotta buld a light bridge.Mines made from kebab sticks ,2 leds over each lane.Got my leds running off a Phone charger.Sounds hard but its really easy.

I picked up some blue cheap thongs(for feet:)) from kmart and found that they are soft and grippy.Gonna try my mates truer out tonight.Im gonna aim for 10 mins a pair.Might even chuck a pair on the nsr.I found last night with a bit of "love juice"(what we call turps) my mates got obliterated.Of course only for 15 or so laps then it starts gettin slippery. The first pair i made i put on the anglewinder rtr. They still had some graphics from the thong that u could see on the outer wall and was was really cool to watch them "lock up" at the end of the straight.

Everybodys probly already tried this but a mate of mine said someone told him they make their own tyres out of thongs so I bought a couple of different compound cheapies and drilled and dremeled and now I swear by them. Anyone else used them? I know it's fiddly and messy but I love them. Got it down to about 20 min a pair to make. Are thongs a type of urethane?

i think ill be happy with this track till i got more room.I would have loved to try ferrodore but maybe the next track-and im sure there will be a next track its only a matter of time. best time 4.850 on nsr supergrips sorry about quality-iphone pics oh and my mates track as well:
-
yea baby varnish was dry so i just ran a couple of laps and its heaps better the dude in the paint shop said steel wool it between coats maybe add some turps so it smooths out and my mate said the more heat the smoother it will dry

na my mates track is at somerset i just got home from there actually and i gotta say my slotit ferarri somethingerather which was the 20 odd piece kit absolutely flys.his track is painted with a spray primer but it was about 20 bucks a can whereas mine was 3 bucks at chickenfeed so it was never gonna be real grippy.also ordered a 45 ohm resistor today which should help with power delivery.I started with the 25 ohm now running 35 ohm be interesting to try the 45 ohm
-
yea i like it cos it fits a bit of track in a small space and still flows well
-
Alright traction is an issue.Noone round here (nw tas)has heard of ferrodor so i got some gloss varnish to paint over the chickenfeed grey primer.I just finished the first coat and i love how it kind of smudges the grey primer giving it a more weathered or realistic look.Hopefully a second coat gives me wicked traction however i still want to be able to 'drive' it as in slide a bit.Of course it could work the opposite and be slippery as but i hope not. Its great how there is so much variation between traction on my mates and my track. My slotits kill it around his track but there almost the slowest round mine.Oh well ill see how the gloss goes.

right i just picked up some timber and a new router bit.goin home to get started this arvy on another 3 laner. This ones going on my ping pong table so i can fold it away when not in use.maybe get some progress shots on tomorrow. I am hoping that i can get a decent 3 laner on it it will measure approx 1600 x 2800. edit:okay it took a week of late nights but i got it going bit rough but ill finish some basic scenery/race signage in the coming weeks. ill put the laptimer in tomorow

well i came home sunday night from my mates track swearing i would not buy another slotit. after a couple of hours of searching and reading everyones tips i took it back out there tonight hoping for a better outcome.I came home tonight swearing im going to add to my collection of slotits I guess i was expecting it to flog my mates and my scalys straight out of the box(I did round the tyres) but when it didnt i was wondering why people thought they were good.the damn thing flogged everything tonight Well maybe not flogged everything but i was super impressed at the difference a little tweaking does.Like any car I suppose. I now get great enjoyment out of tweaking a car and i think the reward is a little greater with slotitits( or at least with my one and only, but not for long)

yea i got a trim router (ryobi i think)Its made 3 of my tracks and two for my mates.Nice and easy to handle.I freehand routed my last track except for the main straight(which is why its far from perfect but it runs smooth)router one hand vacuum in the other. It was $90 at bunnings 6 months ago.
-
Yea:) I got my slot it today but only to look at:(Fathers day on sunday though.Just wondering how to get the body off.Im sure its so easy i feel like an idiot but is it it something to do with the tow hook.i got the screw at the back but I dont wanna break it
-
well looks like its gonna be a loctite mclaren f1 which is offset inline.my missus was gonna surprise me for fathers day but when she mentioned something about slotit tonight i knew i was getting something cos she doesent talk slots:)any way i grilled her and found she spoke with armchair who guided her to the f1 so im pleased as punch.Im sure it wont be my only slotit but from what i can gather any slotit is a good slotit.I shall give a rundown of my first drive when i get it.Cheers for responses guys.

Thanks guys.I think im starting to overanalyse(if thats a word)Originally i was gonna get a rtr cos i got a couple of old bodies lying around also cos im searching for a EH Holden to fit on it not that im having any luck finding one.But now im thinking original plan which is the slotit sica10z Mclaren f1 or sica12z Audi R8C which seem the same but different bodies.Am i right in saying these are sidewinder Config?
-
I m not far off purchasing a new slot it RTR chassis and the optons are angle or sidewinder or is there not that much difference? All my race cars have been scalextric sidewinder engine and ive been reasonable happy with them for the price.Ive noticed that the standard slot-its with bodies at around 65 bucks are only inline whereas the RAW is anglewinder at around $100.Just wondering if there is a best configuration or is it driver preference or is the difference minimal?

yea i am hopeless on computers but i figured out if i used my brain i could do it!Now i understand this alot better ill be inspired to build another track so i can send some more pics:)any excuse to start another build.Honestly half the fun of building one is seeing if it flows as good as was planned.I really wanted to go all out with scenery but this track will not be to permanent. If i can get a shed up in the next year then i would love to have something like the targa barnaby on oldslotracer.problem is cost -between 12k & 20k to put one up makes for a dear track.i mean you can buy a shed for 4k-6k but extras like slab, retaining wall, engineer to legally design the retaining wall, council app.fees etc are what put up the cost.nothin easy these days.thanks for the help offer with the photos btw

yep, much smaller. 700K after squashed as JPG is the output of equivalent to a 1.5mb CCD, and they are 3000 pixels wide. You only need 720 x 480 or there abouts, which will create files of maybe 30 - 70K depending upon JPG squishing efficiency. jeez i thought i was gonna have to fly you over slotsnz thanks for the help

hey slotsnz i made them smaller they about 700k now is that still too big or should i retake the photos at a smaller size?
-
these are smaller hope these are smaller well this is my 3rd track.i had to down size from my previous tracks but i thought i might as well make it 3 lanes.got the laptimer installed today havent plugged it in yet but it all tested allright.it looks fairly tight but passing is pretty cool with three cars fangin round it. i was in a hurry to get it routed so it was all freehand following a pencil line except the back straight which i used a straight edge so thats why the curves are a bit dodgy.still seems to run alright though
