Wynns Porsche 962

16 Dec 2015

Posted by SlotsNZ In: Front Page News
HAH, and you thought you had enough 956 and 962 liveries. This one is so so pretty.

The Porsche 962 is a sport-prototype racing car created to replace the already successful Porsche 956, in order to allow it to race the IMSA and WSC Group C competitions.
It was one of the most successful racing cars ever and it won several competitions all over the world:
- World Sport-Prototype Championship in 1985 and 1986

- 24h Le Mans in 1986, 1987 and 1994
- IMSA GTP Championship in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988
- 24h Daytona in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1991
- 12h Sebring in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988
The IMSA 'GTP' regulations required some modifications in comparison with Porsches designed for the Group C.
Front axle was shifted 12 centimetres ahead, so that driver's feet could stay behind the hubs of the wheels. The boxer 6 cylinders engine had a displacement of 3.2 litres, was air-cooled, with only one turbo, 2 valves per cylinder and one single overhead camshaft.
This car, driven by John Hotchkis, Jim Adams, John Hotchkis Jr, reached 5th place at the 1987 Daytona 24 Hours racing for the Hotchkis Racing Team.

The end of an Era - Racer Slot Cars

13 Nov 2015

Posted by Ember In: Front Page News
News announced last night by SlotCar TODAY: Racer Emmegi, the company behind the Racer, Sideways and Silverline brands, has changed hands. Marco Montrasio and Fabrizio Mella have decided to step aside from a business that was born in 2001 with its first model, the Ferrari 333 Momo.

This all comes as a bit of a surprise only days after Racer released computer design renderings of the eagerly awaited Group 5 Stratos release.

Word has it that the entire business has been moved into the hands of SP Collectibles. The French company formed a partnership with Racer for the creation of the Sideways range which features the Group 5 models. At this particular point in time it is assumed that the Sideways line will continue in production under the guidance of the new owners.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank Marco and Fabrizio for the beautiful models they have produced over the years under the Racer name and wish them well in whatever they decide to tackle next.
